I love JSF's work, and this novel is no exception. I love the messiness of it, of the characters. I love the gorgeous writing. I love the heartbreaks. I sobbed at the ending--it was so beautiful.

I read this with an online book group over the course of several weeks. I found it delightful--so many terrific stories of women becoming themselves as they grew older. Congdon's illustrations are wonderful, too.

Erin Morgenstern
“You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows that they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

Jane Austen
“I am not at all in a humor for writing; I must write on till I am.”
Jane Austen

Neil Gaiman
“Each person who ever was or is or will be has a song. It isn't a song that anybody else wrote. It has its own melody, it has its own words. Very few people get to sing their song. Most of us fear that we cannot do it justice with our voices, or that our words are too foolish or too honest, or too odd. So people live their song instead.”
Neil Gaiman, Anansi Boys

Coco Chanel
“There is a time for work, and a time for love. That leaves no other time.”
Coco Chanel

T.S. Eliot
“For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.”
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets
