E. J. Ruek is a contemporary mainstream writer who also dabbles in speculation. Her books stray between and across genre lines, crossing from benevolent horror to psychological thriller to magical realism to rural (and urban) fantasy to simply mainstream. There's usually some suggestion of paranormal, but, then, again, it might be only a 'maybe'. And there’s humor, too. It sneaks into the words, and even seeps through the cracks between the words. And, slipped in between the lines, there seem certain sleights of tongue that will keep you wondering if meaning is really edging toward innuendo or maybe even triple entendre.

Regardless, E. J. gives us mind-twisting and evocative glimpses into the human…and maybe not-so-human psyches. Says E. J.,

(He's still not very people savvy, poor guy.) The other is what I call my "weird" novel, the first of a series of seven, that explores the "curiouser and curiouser." And, of course, I have Book 2 of "To Inherit a Murderer" in the works, but it's taken a back seat to "Come-Back Road." (less)

Doing strenuous outdoor work--fixing fence, cleaning a pen, climbing wa-aaay up to wash the upper story windows. It always seems to jog loose whatever is caught in the gears. Of course, this is especially fun when it's pouring buckets of rain outside! And, of course, I often will start a new novel if things are really stuck in one or another.(less)

New and Shiny …or Getting There, Anyway

It’s a horrible, tedious, miserable job, but somebody’s got to do it …or not. I’ve been avoiding doing anything of the sort for several years, now, but, finally, finally, I broke out the scrubbers, the industrial strength soap, and the wax and we’re buffing things up, back to fresh, bright, and shiny. Websites are a … Continue reading New and Shiny …or Getting There, Anyway → Read more of this blog post »

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
