George R. R. Martin’s "A Feast for Crows" is the fourth book in "A Song of Ice and Fire", and this time the author deliberately slows the pace, leaving grand battles and shocking deaths behind to show what happens once the fighting has ended and both victors and losers begin to sift through the wreckage. The focus shifts to the aftermath of past wars, changes in the capital, political intrigue, and the movement of new pieces on the board, while the old ones are either gone or hiding in the shadows. We also learn more about new locations, especially the mysterious Dorne, where its own distinct game—quite different from the rest of Westeros—is being played.

The book is engaging, though not in the same way as the previous installments. I was a little disappointed that some beloved characters either don’t appear at all or show up only briefly. Several key figures are entirely absent—and as it turns out, Martin simply chose to split the narrative in two, saving them for the next volume. I had to come to terms with that and accept that here Martin takes a different direction, focusing on other characters and other sides of the conflict.

It’s important to note that "A Feast for Crows" is a book about pause, about stillness and reflection. After the thunderous "A Storm of Swords", there are almost no large-scale battles here. Martin seems to intentionally lower the intensity to show what happens when the flames die down and the ash begins to attract the very vultures of the title. Some hunger for power, others are simply trying to survive. Dorne plays a significant role—a hot, enigmatic region that is finally revealed in full, with its unique culture, rules, and compelling political intrigues.

Overall, this is a solid installment of the epic, serving as a kind of bridge between the great events of the past and the even louder ones yet to come. Yes, it reads and feels different—calmer, more contemplative, less action-packed. For me, it’s probably the weakest book in the series, but even so, it carries important elements of the overarching narrative and allows for a deeper understanding of the world Martin has created. And while action gives way here to politics and atmosphere, "A Feast for Crows" remains a strong link in the chain of this grand story.

"Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith", adapted by Matthew Stover, is a fully immersive literary dive into a familiar mythology — one that feels noticeably different from watching the 2005 film of the same name. At the heart of the story lie the final days of the Republic. The Clone Wars are nearing their end, and darkness is closing in on the entire galaxy. Just like in the film, young Jedi Anakin Skywalker stands on the brink of the most important decision of his life — a choice that will forever change not only him, but the fate of the galaxy itself. Against the backdrop of an ancient system collapsing and the Sith rising to power, unfolds a tragedy known to millions — and yet, on the page, it feels strikingly new.

I am, admittedly, a die-hard fan of Episode III. Perhaps that's why this book reads with such vivid intensity, even though you supposedly know the entire story from beginning to end. It’s not simply a retelling of the film. I would call it more of an expansion. The narrative is more thoughtful and, at times, far more tragic. Or maybe that's just how I personally experienced it while reading. Watching the mighty, seemingly unshakeable Republic crumble under the weight of betrayal and manipulation — it genuinely hurts.

One of the strongest aspects of the book is the way it reveals the true cost of politics. Many characters I loved from previous chapters — noble, honest, courageous — become nothing more than pawns in the hands of a cunning and ruthless adversary. Anakin’s inner conflicts are explored with exceptional depth, each moment drawing him closer to the edge. The book feels as though it lifts the curtain and lets you glimpse the true drama unfolding behind it. It’s a powerful work capable of moving even those who know the story by heart. It vividly shows how fragile even the greatest ideals can be.

For me, as a devoted fan of Episode III, it was a genuine pleasure to relive a familiar story — but this time on the page, slowly, thoughtfully, immersed in the details and emotions. Matthew Stover did an outstanding job, turning the film into a true drama with elements of political thriller and tragedy. This isn’t “a book based on a movie” — it’s a strong, self-contained work of science fiction. I wholeheartedly recommend it to every Star Wars fan.

It follows an ordinary man named Douglas Quail, who dreams of traveling to Mars but can’t afford it. Searching for another way, he turns to a company that offers to implant false memories of adventures instead. But things go off the rails, and soon the hero discovers something far greater — and more unsettling — about himself than he could ever imagine. As always, Dick gives us not just a tale about other planets, but a mind-twisting meditation on perception, memory, and the fragility of human reality.

I only got around to this story recently, even though Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall has long been familiar. Naturally, comparison is inevitable — and it’s important to say that the differences between the short story and the film are huge. The movie keeps only the premise, turning the concept into something far more spectacular and packed with action — basically a blockbuster. Dick’s original, on the other hand, is much calmer, subtler, and focused on psychology. The story draws you into the hero’s doubts and inner conflict, raising countless questions about what’s real and what isn’t. While reading the second half, I caught myself thinking that if this were a film, it might feel slow — but on the page, it works perfectly. The final twist hits much harder in literary form; you genuinely feel the moment when the character’s world collapses in his mind.

Philip K. Dick is a true master of making the reader question everything. He has a rare gift for throwing you headfirst into the protagonist’s strange, almost surreal reality. I found the story deeply engaging because Dick writes with such vivid precision that even a short piece feels like a fully fleshed-out science fiction novel.

“We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” is a compact yet powerful work. It’s not the action story I half-expected — and that’s not a flaw, but a strength. Dick presses exactly where he needs to, delivering a focused and thoughtful exploration of identity and illusion. A fine story that reminds you why Philip K. Dick remains so admired and widely read. The ending, with its peculiar twist, is the cherry on top.
