After investigating, it appeared he was using our clients' identities to take out life insurance policies in their names.

He and his cohorts were bragging online about alarming practices with a specific company known for weak identity verification, which seemed to be to recruit others to participate in his scheme unwittingly. As a result, I became incredibly suspicious.

Several years later, investment research firms reported that 60% of the activity of the company he was bragging about suspicious behavior with was fraudulent. They described my observations precisely and tied them to a $200 million-per-year fraud network.

I wrote my book shortly after the news broke and tied it up with current events. The behaviors I observed are typical of money laundering; the state where this took place is flooded with fentanyl and human trafficking, and the partnerships he seemingly developed were consistent with foreign interests.(less)
