I owned a business that handled personal data for Americans, and my business partner began misusing my identity. After investigating, it appeared he was using our clients' identities to take out life insurance policies in their names.

He and his cohorts were bragging online about alarming practices with a specific company known for weak identity verification, which seemed to be to recruit others to participate in his scheme unwittingly. As a result, I became incredibly suspicious.

Several years later, investment research firms reported that 60% of the activity of the company he was bragging about suspicious behavior with was fraudulent. They described my observations precisely and tied them to a $200 million-per-year fraud network.

I wrote my book shortly after the news broke and tied it up with current events. The behaviors I observed are typical of money laundering; the state where this took place is flooded with fentanyl and human trafficking, and the partnerships he seemingly developed were consistent with foreign interests.(less)

Did you notice that the intensity peaked during the writing process and began to slowly ease about two weeks after completion? Hi David!
