"The proofreader at Ace was asleep on the job when this came out. Inconsistent punctuation, spelling that flips for no reason between US and UK usage, and words that are just outright misspellings. I can forgive the made-up contractions and dialect speech because that at least has a purpose even if it is too much like {author:Joel Chandler Harris|7320] But the rest I wish they had had a more attentive proofreader." — Jul 16, 2023 03:14PM

“A ógánaigh...
ná bris
an ghloine ghlan
'tá eadrainn
(ní bhristear gloine
gan fuil is pian)
óir tá Neamh
nó Ifreann thall
'gus cén mhaith Neamh
mura mairfidh sé
go bráth?
ní Ifreann
go hIfreann
iar-Neimhe...

“Each new grammar pattern we find sheds light on how the human brain creates language. The loss of even one language may forever close the door to a full understanding of human cognitive capacity.”

“Craiceann a shníonn
go gléineach thar do ghéaga
mar bhainne á dháil as crúiscíní
am lóin
is tread gabhar ag gabháil thar chnocáin
do chuid gruaige
cnocáin ar a bhfuil faillte arda
is dhá ghleann atá domhain.

“Mo Sheanmháthair
Ar ais arís lá breá Lúnasa
Canach geosadáin ar foluain
Ar chuile leoithne ghaoithe
Do theach ina sceatraigh
Na cróite ina snaois,
Airím arís ceol na mblianta dearmadta,
Drumadóireacht an bhanna práis
Ag máirseáil síos an bóthar,
Tusa led' sciortaí ardaithe
Ag damhsa ar an screabán
Do sheachtar óg
Náire shaolta fút
Ina bhfál ceilte os do chomhair
Le nach bhfeicfeadh na comharsain
Meidhréis do dhamhsa.”

“You are what you know. Fifteenth-century Europeans ‘knew’ that the sky was made of closed concentric crystal spheres, rotating around a central earth and carrying the stars and planets. That ‘knowledge’ structured everything they did and thought, because it told them the truth. Then Galileo’s telescope changed the truth.”
