"If I read 100 pages per month, this will take most of the year... I wonder if it would be worthwhile or just ridiculous to take four or five long novels and read them all simultaneously like that." Jan 02, 2026 12:00AM

"Hard to believe I first read this knowing so little about French history that I didn't know they had a Louis XVIII or more than one Napoleon. Loved the story despite being completely clueless about the politics, which is...a lot of the book. Going in this time more determined to seek secondary sources as I go. Such good storytelling." Jean Rhys
“My life, which seems so simple and monotonous, is really a complicated affair of cafés where they like me and cafés where they don't, streets that are friendly, streets that aren't, rooms where I might be happy, rooms where I shall never be, looking-glasses I look nice in, looking-glasses I don't, dresses that will be lucky, dresses that won't, and so on.”
Jean Rhys, Good Morning, Midnight

Miranda July
“Tom began screaming, and I wondered if the baby's soft brain was, in this moment, changing shape in response to the violent stimuli. I tried to intellectualize the noise to protect the baby's psyche. I whispered: Isn't that interesting to hear a man scream? Doesn't that challenge our stereotypes of what men can do? And then I tried, Shhhhhhhhh.”
Miranda July, No One Belongs Here More Than You

William Faulkner
“…I seemed to be lying neither asleep nor awake looking down a long corridor of gray half light where all stable things had become shadowy paradoxical all I had done shadows all I had felt suffered taking visible form antic and perverse mocking without relevance inherent themselves with the denial of the significance they should have affirmed thinking I was I was not who was not was not who.”
William Faulkner, The Sound and the Fury

Ludwig Wittgenstein
“Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus
