I could not put it down!

Sophie is truly the star of the show in this Bridgerton installment. She really is Cinderella reincarnated. She's the illegitimate daughter of an earl and he marries a truly awful woman who make Sophie's life a living h*ll. She even has two stepsisters that suck (although one is admittedly worse than the other). Her blended family & backstory is truly heartbreaking. But because of this, she is several classes lower than Benedict- and thus, that is the main point of contention in this book.

Due to the masquerade ball, this book kind of relies upon the insta-love trope, which normally irks me but for some reason it didn't really bother me this time around? It could be because they felt that attraction at the ball, but it takes years later for them to meet again and once again Benedict is just smitten with her...just doesn't know why, nor does he realize it's the same woman as from the ball. Idk - I liked it.

I only really have two critiques of the book: (1) Benedict's character wasn't really flushed out. We got a lot of character development from Sophie so it didn't leave much room for the MMC. Outside of his love for painting, we don't really know much about him. On top of that, when he is in the this book he's kind of mansplainy. (view spoiler)

BOTTOME LINE: An Offer From a Gentleman is essentially a Cinderella retelling. Sophie is amazing & fun. Benedict is just kind of there...which honestly was fine with me
