Solveig Eggerz grew up in four countries — England, Germany, Iceland, and the United States, where she spent six childhood years. Later she returned on a scholarship from the American-Scandinavian Foundation to attend the University of Kansas.

After working as a reporter, she spent decades teaching writing in forms and settings that most writing teachers never encounter: on-campus courses at Northern Virginia Community College, workplace writing for firefighters at National Airport, employees at the CIA and the Department of Defense, and — for eleven years — Writing Readability to military and civilian students.
