Brittany Oldroyd has had a passion for writing since middle school, where she began to write Segolia: Daughter of Prophecy. Since then, she's experienced many trials that tested her determination, including a truck fire that destroyed all of her work. Like her characters, she believes in dreaming big and never giving up. Her plans for the future include going to college and getting a degree in English. Along with her passion for writing and reading, Brittany has a love for night skies, music, and watching thunderstorms. She lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, where the people and the land continue to inspire her. ...more

No Cynicism Here

I saw something on Facebook today that really got me thinking. This post basically said that, in movies, writers are depicted as misunderstood hermits who are very cynical. Now, that was in a joking matter but it still got me thinking. I don't care about the misunderstood hermits part. But cynical? What about writing makes people cynical? If anything, shouldn't it make us just the opposite?

“In the darkness of night,
Demons strut, taunting, goading.
In the light of day,
Angels sing glorious songs.

You understand damnation.
All is forgotten, all is lost,
All but forgiveness
And the memory of her kiss.”

Judy Oldroyd Wondering how you like 1984. I had to read that as a junior in high school and (showing my age!) I thought it was freaky to even imagine 1984 ever coming and now it's 28 years behind me! Still, the book has a few interesting ideas. It is one I haven't forgotten.
