"Since I'm reading something else (Kelley Armstrong's OTHERWORLD SECRETS, but it's an anthology and I'm skipping over the stories I've already read, so I'm not bothering to officially list it on Goodreads), I'll likely return this to the library without finishing it. It's long (608 pages) and heavy (hardcover), and I just need something fictional right now. Marking the page number here in case I re-borrow it later." — Apr 07, 2019 08:00PM

“Anything written for an audience of mostly women by a community of mostly women is subversive, reflective of the current sexual, emotional, and political status, and actively embraces and undermines that status simultaneously.”

“Readers have the right to say whatever the fuck they want about a book. Period. They have that right. If they hate the book because the MC says the word “delicious” and the reader believes it’s the Devil’s word and only evil people use it, they can shout from the rooftops “This book is shit and don’t read it” if they want. If they want to write a review entirely about how much they hate the cover, they can if they want. If they want to make their review all about how their dog Foot Foot especially loved to pee on that particular book, they can."

“We need very strong ears to hear ourselves judged frankly, and because there are few who can endure frank criticism without being stung by it, those who venture to criticize us perform a remarkable act of friendship, for to undertake to wound or offend a man for his own good is to have a healthy love for him.”
