Joy Olival was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. She loves everything about it, except its lack of a drive-in theater. She has a love for all things geeky and nerdy. When she’s not reading or writing, she can usually be found playing copious amounts of video games, trying out new board games, making theories about her latest TV show obsession, or creating travel plans. Wasp Queen is her debut novel.

Put your phone in another room so you don't get distracted, put on some soothing or inspiring music or white noise, and burn a candle or get some essential oils going in a diffuser. Once your ambiance in the room is perfect and distractions have been taken care of, sit down and focus on your work in progress. Maybe that means you can only focus for half an hour at a time, and, if so, that's totally fine! Half an hour really adds up! Or maybe you'll be able to churn out ten hours worth, which is definitely worthy of applause as well. However much you write during that time, just pat yourself on the back anyway, and then do it all again tomorrow. (less)

Play a video game, go for a walk, listen to some music, drink some tea, dance around like a crazy person, etc. Usually that gives me time to de-stress over the situation and let my imagination start running wild. Once Upon a K-Prom Review

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander month, so it was a perfect time to read Once Upon a K-prom by Kat Cho. I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I had been wanting to read it for a while. I mean, a YA book with a K-pop star as the main love interest? Yes, please! But Once Upon a K-prom still managed to surpass my expectations, which is high praise coming from my overly critical self!

Sense and Suitability was a wonderful Regency-era style book. It was refreshing to read something that was not only clean but had a complete vintage feel. It's perfect for anyone interested on an Austen-style book by a modern author. ...more

This was such a fun read! It was a different style from most of the books I read, so it was a nice change. I would definitely say this fits into the cozy fantasy section. It never felt too intense, but also didn't bore me. ...more

Making Connections: Wasp Queen by Joy Olival 8 33 Mar 03, 2023 07:30AM
Emory R. Frie
“Time is drowning,
Hearts are burning,
Heads are rolling,
Nothing can save you now,
Tick tock, tick tock;

Creatures talking,
Weak are rising,
White Queen’s nearing,
Nothing can save you now,
Tick tock, tick tock;

Cards are bleeding,
Crowns are sweating,
Tea is spilling,
Nothing can save you now,
Tick tock, tick tock;

Red Queen, here’s your warning,
Wonderland’s raging,
Alice is coming,
Highness, time is drowning,
And nothing can save you now,
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock…”
