‘Five Feet Apart’ by Rachael Lippincott is a hospital love story between two teens fighting for their lives. Stella has cystic fibrosis, which is an inherited disease that affects the lungs of an individual, and those with the disease may not come within 6 feet of one another. One day, Stella meets the man of her dreams, except for the fact that he has the same disease which makes their relationship hard. The bond between Stella and her hospital crush is too strong...do you think 5 feet apart will be enough?
This hospital love story is an intriguing book that hooks you in chapter after chapter. I’ve never felt so personally connected with the characters in a book. The book brings love to life and how important human touch really is. I enjoyed reading this book because of the connection with sickness and love, and the things that people will do for each other. I loved the instant “connection” between both characters, even though they weren’t big fans of each other, you could tell they enjoyed each other's company. Since love is involved, there is nothing that can get in their way. Even death.
I would have enjoyed the book more if the bad language wasn’t frequently used throughout it. Bad language doesn’t add any value to the story, so I believe it’s not necessary. There’s really nothing else that would have made me enjoy reading it more because it was an overall amazing book! One of my favorite quotes from the book is “If I'm going to die, I'd like to actually live first.” Stella says this after one of her loved ones passed, and when she finally realized that she was living for her medicine, and not using her medicine to live. Reality comes crawling to her, and she does something about it. I would highly recommend reading this amazing, creative, and addicting novel, for you will never put it down!...more
