lilias Well sure it could be, but I was not concerned with the length of the novel. I was bothered by my inabilibty to give it my full attention since I was so involved with other projects that caused me to drop the book for weeks at a time. This means that I was not able to enjoy the book to its full potential, yet I was enjoying it too much to stop reading it completely.
I was able to devote my attention to Crime and Punishment and to read it straight through, and so that experience was completely different.
& thank you.

Laura Nice to meet you, Daniel!

message 27: by Jennifer (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:27PM)

Jennifer Thanks Daniel. I have a Lonely Planet bias when I travel but it has its own bias as well (I'm really not interested in going to every single organic/vegan/environment-sustaining restaurant in Costa Rica).

I'm editing my man's professional reference letter as I speak!

Novieta Tourisia So great to get the first comment from you.
Thank you.

message 21: by Melissa (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:23PM)

Melissa thank you so much for your wonderful comments-so sweet of you. One of my goals in life is to write a book-so I might just have to take up your advice and get to it ;)

And as for the above 'Gone w/ the Wind' comment, I guess to each there own. It is one of my all time favorite novels and I feel the stereotypes depicted were key to that time period, so to look at it with a modern perspective is a bit harsh.

message 20: by Dianna (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:22PM)

Dianna You seem like an interesting and intelligent person. Glad to meet you.

message 19: by Rebecca (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:22PM)

Rebecca Hey!
thanks for the encouragement. I've really never considered writing, simply because I don't think I have very unique or inspired thoughts. I do enjoy reading, however, and hope that others may benefit from my odd and often circuitous musings :)

message 18: by Lynn (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:21PM)

Lynn Thanks for inviting me on as your friend. I love it here in Ft Lauderdale and wanted so much to visit the temples before they were moved. I was quite upset about it because who knows what lies un-discovered in the sand there.
Look forward to getting to know you and your work.
Ankh! Udja! Seneb!

message 15: by Monica (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:19PM)

Monica Hello Danfitz! I actually spend quite a bit of time writing. One of these days I'll get around to reviewing some more books on GoodReads!

message 14: by Primadonna (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:17PM)

Primadonna Thanks for the comment. You certainly put an effort in writing specialized comments for your friends in Goodreads. How thoughtful!

message 13: by Alien (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:17PM)

Alien Citizen Thank you for the compliment to my writing. I am glad if you truly enjoyed reading it. However, while I did accept your friend invitation at first, I will now have to decline primarily because of your rating of Gone with the Wind. To let you know how I feel about this book, I will include here the short review/comment I have made on this novel previously:

This book = A racist piece of trash...if this is your favorite book then don't kid yourself that I would want to be friends with you. I think it says a lot about the United States and its bigoted culture that this is so celebrated a novel.

Many readers here on Goodreads admit to Gone with the Wind being full of 'exaggerated stereotypes' and yet, like you, give the novel 5 stars. To say that the entertainment value of a book makes up for it's overwhelming racist sexist content/message is rationalization at its very worst. From this sort of logic, every kind of inhumanity may follow.

message 12: by Ashley (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:15PM)

take care.

Allison Thank you for the encouragement! I'm at that wonky stage of life when I'm not sure what sort of things I have to offer the world, so I'm very glad you enjoyed my writing!

Also, it's always nice to meet another Jersian!

Thanks so much for the comment. I feel very flattered. In a way, you've just boosted my confidence and enthusiasm.

:D

Thanks again.

message 5: by Toni (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:10PM)

Toni Hello!

Thank you for your kind greeting. While my sister and I may be in earthly balance, we are quite clearly in literary imbalance. Believe it or not, I used to be the big reader of the family. Luckily I have fellow bibliophiles to act as my guide. I look forward to further perusing your list.

message 4: by Cristina (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:09PM)

Cristina Hi Fitz,
Thanks for the flattering comment. If you hadn't noticed, Toni and I are sisters. We aren't twins, however. She's older;) No, I jest. I'm the elder sis by five years.

-C

message 3: by Elizabeth (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:09PM)

Elizabeth Thanks for the comment! I love naval tales, and need to finish adding all the books I've read. I took a look at your first book. Great!

message 2: by Kim (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:04PM)

Kim Teeple Hello!

Thank you so much for the kind comment! What a nice surprise!

It was here I discovered Caligula was written by Camus...I read it when I was about seventeen and felt very ummmm.. grown up? reading it. Oh and a little queasy.

message 1: by Laura (last edited Aug 25, 2016 12:03PM)

Laura A little while after friending Danfitz, I went to browse my Recent Updates list, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is a disarmingly thoughtful man. He seems to find something really neat (but not banal) to say about all his friends.

I think that you'll find that he is a very rewarding friend. His assessments are sound and deliberate (on books of course, not you or me. ahahahah).
Keep it up Danfitz!
