Bram And likewise--I just read your Proust review. Excellent!

message 43: by Bram (last edited Nov 16, 2009 05:11AM)

Bram Bonjour, DDK! Thansk for the add.

message 42: by Jen

Jen It was about a year ago that I joined GR and you friended me. Remember that as you look at this wonderful art. Don't feel too badly; we all make poor choices.

JSou Guess who ordered a copy of Death by Zamboni this morning?

message 40: by Alan

Alan David David Katzman - my daughter read yr book and thinks you're a perv. (She 'borrowed' it). She found it funny though as well. I'll read it soon promise. Just have to get through my library books..
see you, or see you virtually anyway,
Alan

Jen I know, all these women kissing videos- it's so old! Whatever happened to the good old days- women kissing a reel to reel or something?

message 38: by Jen

Jen I watched it before youtube removed it. And the dalmatian one- it was too bad too look away. You win. I won't even try to...well, okay, I tried.

message 35: by Jen

Jen I don't have a Proust review yet. Still in the circle of the faithful at the dinner parties, but Swann is wising up, I think. I hope.

And the buildings and wires and doodads are what kill me in your avatar- not exactly Green Acres. But you were going for that juxtaposition, right?

message 34: by Jen

Jen Your avatar kills me. This is me, speaking from the beyond.

message 33: by Jen

Jen How did you know that was my favorite book? There's nothing like joining the mile high club with a dark eyed terroristy stranger. I can hear it now, "Oh, yes? You too, huh? Oh, the little bathroom? I'm sorry for you- Well, my mile high was in the cockpit" (twss)

You know there is a cockpit reference in there. I actually might have to read it now just to find it.

message 32: by Jen

Jen Just wanted to drop by to recommend Jurassic Park to you. I'm sure you'll really love it.

mwahahaha

I keep seeing an ad on my page for The Wet Nurse's Tale- it says "In Victorian England, her breasts are her future." I bet.

message 31: by Brad

Brad That's extremely weird. I am sure I didn't add Jurassic park today. Or make any changes on it or anything. I noticed it pop up six in a row on my feed and didn't pay any attention. Don't know what to tell you, David. Did you piss off Crichton's ghost or something?

message 30: by Jen

Jen Loved the lion and the robot.

message 29: by David

David Katzman My favorite slightly-incestuous-semi-incomprehensible-brother-sister-Berliner-punk-rock duo Die Roten Punkte has released a second video. See it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ_erQ...

Lyrics are:
I was alone listening to sad songs
They were soppy
Even my hands were confused
They went floppy
I saw you selling records on the street
You liked Bowie
I hope I don’t mess this up
Let’s not take it slowly

Don’t leave me hangin’
Let’s get Rock Bangin’

I’m lookin’ at you, you’re lookin’ at me
We’re crazy, Rock Bang!
Wanna do it again, Wanna do it again
Get ready, Rock Bang!

We stayed out dancing till the sun came up
Now I’m hungry
Then you walked me to my door
I had no money
I can’t wait until tomorrow night
Was she winking?
There’s just one thing I want to do
I like your thinking

Don’t leave me hangin’
Let’s get Rock Bangin’

I’m lookin’ at you, you’re lookin’ at me
We’re crazy, Rock Bang!
Wanna do it again, Wanna do it again
Get ready, Rock Bang!

Oh, Oh, Oh. Rock Bang!
Oh, Oh, Oh. Rock Bang!

Wanna do it again, wanna do it again,
Wanna do it again
I like your fingers

Wanna do it again, wanna do it again,
Wanna do it again
I love your smell

Wanna do it again, wanna do it again,
Wanna do it again
Here comes your friends

Wanna do it again, wanna do it again,
Wanna do it again
Let’s show and tell

I’m lookin’ at you, you’re lookin’ at me
We’re crazy, Rock Bang!
Wanna do it again, Wanna do it again
Get ready, Rock Bang!
Oh, Oh, Oh. Rock Bang!
Oh, Oh, Oh. Rock Bang!

David Katzman I am in love with a new band. And since i'm almost purely an electronic music fan, this is quite a momentous occurrence! Frightened Rabbit. They're a Scottish indie rock outfit in the vein (and with the heart) of The Mountain Goats but a little fuller and poppier. I've been playing this over and over and over again so I must push this on my friends. Check out the U-Toob video at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBcbDS...

The first bit of lyrics is hard to understand (those Scots!) so here is the "English" translation:

"Jesus is just a Spanish boy's name.
How come one man got so much fame?
To any me, it's pointless to anybody
That doesn't have faith
Give me the cloth and I'll wipe my face."

This link takes you to the album on itunes:

Jessica David Dear:
I fixed the Sarkhozy link on my page..check it out?

Matthieu $12, eh? Sounds like a reasonable price. Ha.

You have a PayPal account, right?

Matthieu I want a copy of Death by Zamboni, David! Ha.

Books Ring Mah Bell I'm so glad weiner poopies has touched more hearts... That was from an actual newscast here in our city. My husband and I looked at eachother like, "WTF?!!? IS this real?"

It was.

I've seen it 200 times and it still slays me.

Books Ring Mah Bell Thanks for the great link. One would never know she suffered such a massive stroke... very impressive.

message 16: by Jessica

Jessica man...you're a fan of David David Katzman!
wow, me 2

message 14: by Jessica (last edited Feb 14, 2009 04:30PM)

Jessica David David David David David David David:
wish I could stay for your show!!!!
thanks for all the x-rated stories though
p.s. how's the shirt?!
great to have met you!!!
xo
Chairy.

message 13: by M

M I saw the same thing re the Frisky cancellation. Almost everything I like goes away. (Hey, I should write a pop song.)

So--have you ever seen these folks' earlier Sealab? Is it worth a look?

message 12: by M

M D-David--another Killface fan?: hot damn. And I'd almost agree with you about Dingo's place at the top of the comedy/cartoon pantheon, except for the masterpiece that is Venture Bros. It feels a little myspace to be so in love with these cartoons, but by gum I'm gonna embrace it, in between posts on Bolano and Coetzee and other hotshit highbrow materials.

message 11: by Sam

Sam thanks for the add! looking forward to reading your work....

message 10: by Michelle (last edited Dec 18, 2008 03:28PM)

Michelle I had to put something up today. A friend created some (scary) avatars for me, and in exchange for her promising to delete them, I put one up.

Michelle You weren't really gone that long, but in Internet time it was about six months.

Michelle David David, where have you been been?
: )

message 7: by David

David Katzman Now that's sassy, Peggy!

Pegsypoo Satisfied!?!?!?!

Petra X Thank you for your comment on my piece on religion. I'm reading a book on evolutionary biology at the moment and there is nothing in that, nor anything in history that leads me to believe that human brains are likely to evolve into anything more sensible at all. As long as people subsume the great existential questions beneath a crust, a morass of faith, there will be gods to worship.

Petra X I read your interview. It was interesting. I am not too sure of Pubeasy.com in the UK, but I know, because I buy from them, that PGW are the biggest US distributors of independent presses and I think Pubeasy is similar.

Lolly K Dandeneau Fantastic interview. I love that you said you didn't know why it would be taboo for an author to write himself in his books. I always wondered why critics seemingly condmen people who do that. I think often writers pen a lot of people they know or knew into their characters, hell it's why we study people to begin with. I think we write to understand others and ourselves, the world we live in so why NOT use our life for inspiration.
Again, I enjoyed reading your interview!

message 2: by David

David Katzman I was interviewed recently here:
http://www.canvasandpen.com/interview...

The coolest part is that i get my own theme song. Rollover the word SLIDE above the slideshow of my artwork, then click the sound icon. I don't know the moderator of this site well, but using a band called Frantic Chant pegged me pretty well!

message 1: by W.B.

W.B. I prefer death by zabaglione to death by Zamboni.

But one must be flexible with death.

Thanks for the invite. Your profile is hella interesting.
