Coral (coralm) | 58 comments Just finished this one and I wanted to recommend it to the group. It's more Urban Fantasy than Paranormal Romance. Not huge on the sexy time, though there is a little toward the end. A mixture of sci-fi and fantasy in terms of genre. There are futuristic elements and plenty of magical paranormal stuff going on--necromancers, shamans, demons, etc. The author did a good job building up an interesting world I can't wait to read more of.

I loved Dante because I'm a sucker for a tortured hero. Enjoyed the book immensely. My review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Jon | 91 comments It looks interesting, I was hunting for a new series so I'll give it a look. Thanks for the recommendation.

Leesa (leesalogic) I have the big book of all the stories (thus far) that my husband got me for a present. Looking forward to reading it!

Paul | 49 comments Looks interesting. I put it on my "to read" list, which is growing faster than I can read the books.

message 7: by Bitchie (new)

Bitchie (matron) I read this series a few years ago, and loved it. MC Dante gets frustrating at times, but it's a great series.

Lia (lilialando) | 4 comments NUEVO Rio makes me angry.
We talk Portuguese in Brasil, not spanish.
I'm not "hispanic".. I don't have a drop of spanish in my blood, god dammit!

Oh, God. How I hate stereotypes.
And people that don't do research.

It would be NOVO Rio, btw, if you are wondering.

Jillian Coleen (jilliancoleen) | 22 comments I am currently trying to finish up the 5th book... I say trying mostly because I have read SO many fantasy series this year I am just kind of over the genre right now and just want to wrap this up so I can move on to something different.

That being said! (Sorry, had to set context) The world building is really amazing. I really enjoy Saintcrow's blending of sci-fi and fantasy, especially the little tidbits here and there about the fall of the old world so to speak and the re-embracing of the even older gods. It's very futuristic Pagan (though I am sure true Pagans would disagree) in a way that works for me.

I also have appreciated thus far the variety in story lines. So often I feel that series rehash the same storyline over and over, and thus far the stories relate in the grand picture but also don't feel like the last book reheated.

Lastly though, and again, this is without finishing the last book yet, I am starting to feel a bit like we spend SO MUCH TIME in Danny's head, and although the story changes, she continues to repeat, and doubt, the same things over and over again. Plus some of the descriptions are repetitive (molecule drip nail polish, sparking rings, glinting emerald, etc) which gets annoying.

Or, perhaps, just don't read all 5 back to back :)
