Dawn, Katya, Ezinwanyi & Jenne are going to read something together

I do have to say a pet peeve of mine is (view spoiler)
I am enjoying the humor in the book. Nick had enough hair on his chest to prove he was fully adult male, but not enough to suspect you'd crossed some species boundery. LOL!
Katya I did like when Raphael, Duncan and Cyn first meet details too.

Ez are you with us?

As for the action...it is about to heat up. Love that scene in the warehouse...with the Russian mobsters. That is powerful and so well written...you feel as though you are there.
I love this gal...she is strong but feisty without being annoying. She is not going to let anyone tell her what to do. But you get that Raphael is angry with her and Duncan frustrated with her but they both respect that part of her despite their anger and frustration.
So many heroines today are so wimpy!

I'm at the point when lord Raphael took Cyn on a tour of the kidnapping scene.

you are a busy girl E

I have to say...even though we are dealing with vampires here in a piece of fiction...That Raphael and Duncan come way too close to how real guys behave and act....Where is the fantasy in that? LOL.
Sometimes, I get so frustrated with Raphael....Like I do - A REAL GUY! (view spoiler) Why can't these dudes just act like all the other paranormal guys out there and less like real men...now that would be fantasy at it's best!
I was going to do laundry today, but I need to read book two (Jabril)...fast! I think instead of laundry I am taking my nook and heading down to the beach for an hour or two!

LOL I know Jenne...and I Love it when he is like shocked and says, (view spoiler) You are right about it being underrated.....definitely well written.

When Raphael drank from Cyn, did it leave his scent or mark to indicate possession? I ask because he is so pissed at Albin for taking what's "his"?
How did Cyn know the departure time to Pushkins was skewed to leave her out?
Why does Duncan hate her?
Comment: gross on the first time sex scene

Will there be more info as to why B did what she did? More info as to why Cyn dad fought for custody but didn't value her that much?
Why not Nick?

I don't think they leave anykind of mark or scent in this series.
Cyn's parents are only briefly mentioned in this book. It's never really a "hot" issue.
Duncan doesn't hate her at all. At the begining he doesn't trust her but she proves herself to him in the way she investigates Alexandra's abduction. In fact the two of them end up being quite close. And I agree with you a little bit of communication would of helped Raphael & Cyn a whole lot!

I do really like Cyn and her almost take no crap attitude. I say almost because (view spoiler)
Ez, I noticed it too. he said he wanted to mark what was his. But then there was no explanation of markings or scents.
I haven't read anything on the author and I probably will later but something that made me curious about her is the use of "denims". Most of the time you can tell a non-american author by the wording and colloquialisms they use. Not that it bothers me if it isn't an American author, I just expect phrases I am not familiar with. This book is well written and I assumed an American author. But I have never heard of jeans called denims before. Granted I am a midwest girl and haven't traveled much. Does anyone know is it a term used in another country, or somewhere else in the US?

(view spoiler)

What is it about Raphael that makes Cyn (who seems to like no permanent attachments/claims with her bedmates) fall so easily?
I notice that in PNR, these kickass heroines, no nonsense gals, sometimes fall so quickly for the "vampire". The one exception I can think of is Kate Daniels. She made Curran work...I am talking up to Book 3 kind of work for it.
I suppose Andrea also made Raphael work hard too.
That is why I asked why not Nick, they had a 2year great sex relationship, so what is it about Raphael? He wasn't particularly kind or seet. He wasn't even pursuing her like that. I felt like "my Cyn" was more of a possessive thing because lords like him didn't share, not because he just was crazy about her.
Does that make any sense?

Cyn had let her get away with a lot, so it only made sense that she would keep pushing the boundaries. What I want to know is why her friend set her up like that. i get it that she felt that Cyn left her alone at the squad, but not only did she take her to the part, but she had left notes along the way at work pointing to Cyn. That had taken some premeditation and malice...is that addressed in the subsequent books...
Question: Gregori--was it because he failed in his job to keep Alexandra safe or was it because he "assumed" or was it because an example had to be made?
This was really Raphael's fault for bring in that Albin person in...why didn't he punish himself?

With Gregori it was the combination of both not doing his job & he had to make an example of him so nobody else would dare try something.
Raphael should of known better with Albin. (should of listened to my man Duncan ☺)

I have mixed feelings on Rapheals powers. It is never real clear what all his power entails. It almost seems like the author wasn't sure how to explain what all he can do and just opted not to. Or is it just a method to string us along amd make vampires more mysterious.

Agreed.

Has anybody thought more about when we should read Hyde?

We could wait until Friday and hope that wing is called...

Okay...if you read Jabril....you get an explanation on why Raphael did what he did...and the Vignettes have an explanation of what happened with Dad.
Nick wants some dinner and some hoochie on his visits to the West Coast....nothing more....obviously both are okay with it so there is not alot there but friendship and some fun.
Why does Duncan hate Cyn? He doesn't but he is hyper protective of Raphael and does not trust Cyn who to him is a live wire....he warms up to her in Jabril.
Raphael is not a communicator....I know alot of dudes who are like that. There is a scene in Jabril which drives me insane too...
That sex scene where he goes to the shower...It is not that he is freaked out...we get Cyn's side of it but never Raphael....she assumes that there is no future with this dude and she assumes he is freaked.....I have read this four times and I don't think there is anything about him being freaked...but maybe I am wrong.
We find out in Jabril at the beginning that she was marked as his property and everyone can pick up Raphael's scent on her.
The My Cyn goes back to the beggining too....Master Vamps in this world call their children My this and that....but it is also the posession thing....Raphael's head will make sense in Jabril that is all I can say. He explains what he is going through and thinking in that book.
As for Gregori...Raphael does not cut ANYONE some slack...that is the message throughout the books.
In the book Rajmund there is a passage where Cyn's friend Sarah describes Raphael, who she does not know very well:
"She eyed the vampire lord where he sat in the middle of the seat in front of her, one arm around Cyn, their heads together as they murmurred back and forth. She had to admit she was pretty intimidated by him. He was otherworldly handsome, a masterpiece of sculpture come to life. And although he rarely said anything-at least not in her hearing-when he walked into a room, he was instantly the focus of attention. He was like a massave sun who's gravity pulled everything else-planets, stars, passing meteors-into his orbit just by existing....As for Sarah, she was pretty sure Raphael wouldn't have noticed her at all if not for Cyn. Not because he was rude or anything but because she honestly didn't cross his radar. Which was fine with her because in the final analysis, he was one scarey guy.

He never actually said he was freaked out. That is what I took from it. He was thinking how wonderful it was that he could stay in bed with her forever... then he suddenly snapped back to reality and got up. Probably to go sort out his thoughts, and Cyn misunderstood the look she saw.

One of the other groups has a chat with this author Friday evening...this might be a fascinating question for her.

But i am ready for it. Bookie said it was good!

Jenne, are things making more sense?

I am jumping the gun here but one of the most tender moments is when Cyn asks Duncan how he turned....(view spoiler)[what a change from the beginning when he is uncomfortable around her and doesn't like the questions. (hide spoiler)] You can see the level of respect he has for her and the fact that he would share such an intimate detail of his life with her tells you how he feels about her and the trust they have for one another.
Speaking of Duncan (view spoiler)[love how she can tell he is younger and not the Master Vamp by his southern drawl (hide spoiler)] when Raphael, Duncan and Cyn first meet. That was a nice detail.
