Christy I was wondering is this a good book.. I like the Twilight sereis So maybe this good also.. Is it about Aliens someone said that it was..

Allison It's AMAZING!!!! I love this book. I personally liked it MUCH better than Twilight. Yes there are some alien like things...but it is so good! When yu start reading it it'll seems like the boringest book in the universe but you just have to get past the boring part....about 150 and then you will not be able to put it down! :)

Vanessa It's much better well-written than Twilight (which I'm also a fan of). It's also a slower/higher level read than Twilight, but it is a great book!

Christy I think that i will read it.. Try it out anyway..

Justine Saulnier yeah ive been debating on wheter or not to read Host

April Mathes I actually liked this book a whole lot more than twilight. I think it was put together a lot better than the twi-series. :)

Shelbi I love this book. It's one of my top favorites. The first few chapters might seem really boring. But keep going, trust me, it gets a lot better! I actually enjoyed it more than Twilight.
The character's in this book are just more believable, and realistic than the Twilight characters.

message 12: by Lia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lia really good just like Shelbi said it gets really interesting towards the middle of the book so just keep reading

Bernadette Singer Read this book, I really enjoyed this book. It was an interersting perspective of alien abductions. This book kept me at the edge of my seat. Good Read.

Colton Honestly, yes. I like it because it showcases a whole side of Stephanie Meyer's writing that was not showcased in the Twilight series. However, I do feel that parts of it are an acquired read, but the overall story is definitely worth it.

Josheka I absolutely LOVED it!! The Host is one heck of a dystopian novel!

message 16: by Jo (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jo I loved this book, you won't regret reading it.

Katherine I really enjoyed this book. It starts out slow so don't stop reading. She was supposed to right a sequel but so far I haven't seen anything.

Mirah W I really enoyed The Host...highly recommend it to everyone. It's not written in the same way as the Twilight series, in my opinion. It's got more depth and the story was unique. I say give it a try!

I agree. I am not that fan of Twilight, but I truly liked The Host. Unique story, and always Meyer style of writing (of course) but definitely well done. I recommend you give it a try.

Summer The Host is a good book it's a pretty slow read though, it took me awhile to get into it.

message 21: by Mark (new) - rated it 3 stars

Mark miller It's nothing like the Twilight series I'll tell you that much. I would place it as a psychological novel. The earth is taken over by aliens who take over the minds of humans. Society hasn't changed much on the out side, but at a closer examination there is a complete revision in structure and form. Stores and business's still function as usual, but there is a communistic like condition functioning throughout. It's also a love story too. And I'm not that big on love stories, however this one is intriguing and complicated.
The aliens come in forms of tubes which are implanted in the brains of humans once implanted the human's personality of self is gone and buried. They become the self of the alien. In name and memories as well. Some humans resist this operation. The host and protagonist Melanie is one of them. She meets the alien named Wanderer in her head when she wakes up. She is one of two in her mind. They occupy the same brain, mind, memories and thoughts. Although, the parasite has full operations of motor functions, so the parasite has more control. The dialogue between the host and parasite is unique and interesting. They become friends eventually. I won't give anymore of it away, but a well worth read if you have the time. The Host is 619 pages, but the book flows smoothly. I recommend it. 3-4 stars-Mark

Shanna For sure read it, it's wonderful! It took me 100-150 pages to get into then I didn't want to put it down! It's much more well-written then Twilight (though I enjoyed those too) but completely different!

Heather-Lea It's very different from Twilight- much more of a adult novel rather than a teenage drama. I enjoyed both stories but they were definitely on different levels. I read once that you need to give a book 50 pages or more before you decide not to finish it so that a novel gets a fair chance.

Flora Better than Twilight....you will love it!

message 25: by Atika (new) - added it

Atika yeep!! i liked it pretty much!

Alina Man Read this book (twice) and i really liked it more than Twilight. Starts a little slow but keep at it and you'll be captivated by the characters.

Nicole This and amazing book and it's going to be a movie! I'm so excited!!

Rae Christy "I was wondering is this a good book.. I like the Twilight sereis So maybe this good also.. Is it about Aliens someone said that it was."

Hi Christy,

This is definately a great book. Stephanie Meyers does a great job of building the background and history of this story; the new, post-invasion, world she creates is believable/realistic; and all of the characters develop as the story progresses (even the minor ones).
However, if you've read The Twilight series then you know that Stephanie Meyers always starts off a little slow (<--that's an understatement). This book is not an exception, it took me approximately 200 pages and constant reminders that my son said it was a terrific book to keep going.

Once the main character makes it through the desert in the book...you have made it out of the desert also and the story is catapulted into the fast lane...you'll start lying to yourself, saying things like "I'm going to sleep after this next paragraph,... then page, ...then chapter...only to kick yourself at 4:30 a.m. because you have to be up at 6 a.m. to go to work...

Hope this helps.

Happy reading.

Rae

Gabriel Phenomenal ! Incredible ! Yes it's amazing!!

message 30: by V (new) - rated it 3 stars

V I really liked this book, but the beginning was slow. Hang in there though. It is worth it.

message 31: by Christy (new)

Christy Ok I just got it. I will start reading soon thanks for the info..

message 32: by T.J. (new) - rated it 5 stars

T.J. I LOVED the love story and cannot wait for the movie. This book definately helped stretch my imagination. The concept is a little weird and it starts out slow, but I finished this books in 2 1/2 days which is my own way of judging how good it was. It kept my interest, it made me laugh, made me frown and smile. Stephanie Meyer is one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint.

message 33: by T.J. (new) - rated it 5 stars

T.J. and Stephanie Meyer might write a sequel titled, The Soul.

Billie Andrews I absolutely loved the host. I liked the fact that Melanie fought for what she wanted. Cannot wait for the movie!! I hope it's every bit as good :)

Chrissy The biggest difference between Twilight and The Host is that The Host is not YA. That being said, it's a slower read. Stephanies writing improved a lot with The Host and if you have any interest at all in sci-fi you'll like it even more.

Billie Andrews I think that I may have liked The Host better than twilight. It's about the same length as eclipse but the fact that it somehow stretched itself out already makes it far better than twilight as that just rushes into the whole thing.

Julia If you liked Invasion of the Body Snatchers you will like this one. Because that's exactly what it was... Invasion of the Body Snatchers from the viewpoint of the body snatcher.

Antionette the beginnins was hard for me to get into. i had put it down. and months later picked it back up. its well worth pushing threw the first few chapters. the end... i cried. so picky about my books. but when they are well written and you can feel the emotion.... hoping the movie does it justice

Nancy Miller I had a hard time getting through the first few chapters, but then got the audiobook, and loved it! A great story - definitely better and deeper than Twilight.

message 40: by Anam (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anam syed It's been kept in my bookshelf since last year and everyday i cant bring myself to pick this book.

Nellie It is amazing!!

Carol King I'm reading it now it seems great

message 43: by Jonathan (last edited Aug 30, 2012 01:37PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jonathan I haven't read Twilight, so i can't compare it to that, but i found it to be ok. I like the idea of the host more than the actual book itself. It seemed unnecessarily long and repetitive. But its not terrible. I just cant see myself actually recommending it to someone.

message 44: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy victoria it was amazing i really liked it wasn't sure at first but i loved it

message 45: by Luke (new) - rated it 5 stars

Luke I thought it was better than Twilight. She better write the sequel as soon as she's finished with the movie, unless she's already in the process, then finish it. But I hope the sequels don't end up as long as the first. Maybe 500 pages, rather than 600.

Elisabeth Zguta Excellent book! In depth characters, and of course the heart felt story.

message 47: by Lara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lara It seems really boring, but when you actually read it you will love it! it is so exciting! <3

Cheryl It's a great book...and i say a great and not awesome cause i read it years ago and iffy on the details but i do recall i found that the beginning was boring, so it took me forever to actually read the book, i always picked it up and put it back down. It takes a while for it to get interesting but when it does you won't be disappointed. I plan on re-read it some time soon hopefully!

Frances Brown This is an excellent book. I was reluctant to read it because I tried to read Meyer's Twilight and could not get past the first pages. But this book is entirely different, very well written, and has a gripping plot. Highly recommend.

Nichola I do love this book, it's on my top 5 facourites and I've read it several times. Better written than Twilight but in all fairness, the twilight saga was aimed at teens whereas this was aimed at a more adult market.

The best advise I can give, though, is to make sure you get past the first few chapters. I can see why they were necessary but they are a little slow going. It definitely picks up once she's in the cave (which doesn't give anything away from the story line.)
