I've been diagnosed with tendonitis and so have to cut way down on computer time. Ann aka Iftcan has been active (for example, see http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...) - shall we ask her if she'd like moderator powers?

I think that is a terrific idea. I've noticed her name popping up a lot, and she has been making suggestions about how to navigate the site.
I'm sorry to hear about the tendonitis. I've fortunately escaped that exasperation and pain. Here's to a quick recovery.
Do you want to contact her?

Okey dokey. I'll get on it tomorrow. My eyes are crossing right now. Take tender care of your tendons!

Guys--I will be away for a few days--possibly as long as 2 weeks. My Mum died this morning, and I have to go and take care of all of the things that arise after a death.
As soon as I come back, I'll catch up on all my reading and doing some shelving. I promise.

Oh Ann, I am so sorry to hear about your Mum's death. Absolutely don't worry about this group -- I wish for you solace.

Hi. Sent a message to Lisa, whose posts are stickied at the top of this group, about doing some cleanup on the top-level description type posts, so it's easier to get up to speed on what's going on here (and, like consolidate all the suggestions on how to locate books). She said she's not a moderator anymore, so probably even better that her name gets off most of the posts (as the poster, but not as the author: I believe in giving credit where it's due).
As I said in a private message, I'm interested in re-writing a bunch of stuff - so it's more concise, and better organized.
But, I'm not going to bother doing that work, unless there's a consensus that the old stuff needs to (or could) come down, and new things get added.
Well, as I told the poster, Rebecca's (our group creator's) posts are still up too, and I don't think it's been confusing. Of course, if you want to redo introductory posts, the current mods here are welcome to do that.

I appreciate that you want to help, but I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind. We're pretty well organized now, I think. The 'Details for Posting a Query' thread is meant to be inclusive, hass all the key stuff (including that example), and does reference another thread for people who are still confused.
What exactly do you think needs fixing?
Well, I read a bit on those 6? 8? different posts at the top, and still didn't see the possibly-solved folder mentioned. Just found it.If my query had been possibly answered in the last couple of days, I wouldn't have even known that I should've moved it to that folder.
I'm of the short-attention-span variety, and I suspect other people are too. I'd write things more concisely than just logging a discussion (which is how forums operate).
But yeah, I do have other things I could do with my time, so unless there's interest...
If ya'll want (say, 2 or 3 of you say yes), I'll re-do the 'tips for finding' and post it.
---
Cheryl, just re-read those two posts, and they're out-of-date.
Eep. It's come to my attention that the mod-area is s'posed to be for the mods to post only. (Umm, why isn't that a tool or something and enforced by the site?)Sorry, if I intruded.
I didn't see that in any of those posts at the top of the group. Nor did I see it in a sticky at the top of this folder.
Justanotherbiblophile wrote: "I didn't see that in any of those posts at the top of the group. Nor did I see it in a sticky at the top of this folder."As I told you in a pm, there is no rule, but the moderators' area is self explanatory.
I've always thought it would be nice if moderators could have a private folder in their groups the users can't read, but apparently that is a bell or whistle that hasn't made the top of the list yet. Some groups create a secret group where the moderators can chat over how to deal with this stuff so they don't get the users involved. Just a thought.
Fyi, posters don't need to worry about moving to Possibly Solved - we moderators do that kind of thing on our sweeps. I don't mind polite member queries once in a while. I've been a moderator in a group that needed to set up a separate moderator's secret group and it's a pain; I hope we don' ever need to do that. I, personally, think we're all good now.
Andria has been such a huge help, esp. with YA, that I contacted her about whether she'd like to join the team. I got back an enthusiastic affirmative, so could we please officially invite and welcome her as another moderator?

      Hello fellow moderators:
What do you think about asking Lobstergirl if she'd like to be a moderator? She is really a faithful contributor and very active here.

There are a few others who might like to be, as well, but we'd have to unanimously approve them. But meanwhile, yes, if Lobstergirl's willing to help us, I'm absolutely confident she'd be a great asset. Please do ask her and say I sent you. ;)

We still need more help. I'm really struggling with pain and have to at least stop sending out the PMs. Maybe I can still read threads that I might know the answer to, but that's it. Sorry.

I concur with asking Lobstergirl to join us, and apologize for slacking off lately. This summer got really crazy w/ my hubs in the hospital and me traveling for work, but I'm catching up and have a bit more time for moderating now. :)
Cheryl - hope you feel better soon!

Ack - I'm just a mess. I was really sick about a month ago, and ever since my eyes have been messed up. It's kinda like double vision, but much worse. My optometrist gave me a referral to the neuro-ophthalmologist but I'm still waiting to hear from him. Meanwhile, it's very difficult for me to use the computer, so I'm not on here much at all, as you may have noticed. And even after the specialist sees me, we have no idea whether he'll be able to do anything.
I will keep you posted. But you might want to think about getting another back-up moderator, since I can't do everything I want to do. Sorry.

Cheryl, sorry to hear about your eye problem. Get well soon!
I could help out as well.
Just be forewarned I would be changing all those "need help with book!" headers to "YA/MG erotica werewolf lawyer stranded on Mars, dies in avalanche with green-eyed fairy."

Lobstergirl, I'm going to make you mod. now.Serendi, you have a private profile and I don't know you. If someone wants to vouch for you, that's great, but I won't add you yet.
Actually, I may not be able to add anyone, as I'm not the original moderator.. or I'm just forgetting how... I'll check in again later, after some sleep.

No worries, Cheryl, I've added LG. I've thought she'd make a good addition to our "mod squad" for some time now.
::ceremonial music::
I hereby confer upon thee, Lobstergirl, the sacred honor of WTNOTB Moderator Status. Something something great power, great responsibility...go forth and edit headers in a wise and just manner as ye see fit.
Welcome aboard.

Cheryl, I've made my profile public. I'm not clear (the Help info here is, well, less than helpful sometimes) whether that changes whether my comments can be viewed, but I presume they're available now. I've been in this group since August, have tried to find a lot of people's lost books (with some success), and am most of the way through reading the back threads here. Haven't written reviews; I'm more into discussions. I also have been wishing I could move threads that say "Move thread soon" and are six months old, or add information to headers. I've spent about 35 years in document production, including copy editing.
I like this group; would like to be able to help more. If it's too soon, no worries.

You get my vote, Serendi. Next mod who sees this and wants to add you may go ahead and do so. Welcome Lobstergirl, and thank you!

But nothing is really private except private and hidden groups.
People still see your reviews, posts, creative writing, etc. etc.
