I just started reading Assassin's Apprentice today on my Kindle Fire and I can't help but feel like I'm reading The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. Not word for word or anything like that, but it definitely feels the same. Not saying its a bad thing, I love Brent Weeks. I kind of hope the whole book feels the same way. Anyone else feel the same?

I only got about 1/4 of the way through The Way of Shadows before my son stole it. I'm only 1/4 of the way through Assassin's Apprentice now. My first impression is the only thing they have in common is a theme of a young boy being trained to kill. Beyond that, they are completely different. The Way of Shadows is much darker and more graphic than Assassin's Apprentice. It has more to do with the underbelly of society than royal machinations. It also didn't have any magic (at least in the first quarter).

Assassin's Apprenticeis much more how a real assassin book would be, using poison and misdirection to meet their ends.
The Way of Shadows is more of a fantasy trope type of assassin. I mean really, what kind of an assassin is going to being running and jumping across rooftops with a giant sword?
Fair enough, and mind you I'm only about 30 or so pages in, so the boy is still 6 years old and hasn't done much. I'm sure my opinion will change as I continue reading it. So far though I'm enjoying it.
