Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Hahaha. You are too funny. Someone was joking we should go as Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein when I mentioned Halloween.. I said no way. If we have one you can come and take pictures, I promise.

message 202: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Meme, that's kind of funny! Sometimes things happen that way. Especially with wedding photos. Your day is busy enough. I try to recommend that people let me do photos on a different day. It really works out better because it takes a lot of stress off. But not many go for it. Understandable, but it does help.

I'd totally wanted to have a halloween shindig but my mother kiboshed that one right out. Man I said October and she said "NOOOOOOOOOO!" Bummer. HAHA I would have had so much fun!!!!!! Le Sigh. She had some envisionment of some wedding from the movies. I'm really unorthodox. That's the last thing I wanted. Oh well. If I make it to 50 I'm totally doing a graveyard party. HAHA

Kristen, the imperfections -that's what you'll remember. heck, I can't remember a lot from my reception but I remember the near fist fight over my bouquet and I remember the nasty cake and... HAHA That's what makes the good memories.

I shot my SIL's second wedding and the only thing I remember was that the crazy aunt pushed people out of her way, vaulted over a table, grabbed the flowers outta mid air, belly flopped and slid under the table with the cake. AWESOME!

message 203: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Oh man that would be cool. Hey you could do the Adams Family or The Munsters. That could be fun! Or you could just do some famous couple like Elivs and Priscella or something. If it's in a graveyard totally do some dead couple. Like Cleopatra and Antony or something. I mean make it fun. Don't do someone living like the president and his wife. HAHA

Wooot! If you do a graveyard wedding I'm there! I'll have my camera then and be ready to go! *GRINS*

message 204: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments I have to say Lady Ozma I am not that out going not sure if I could pull something like that off. But hey I would love to see pictures from it I hope all turns out the way you want it to Kristen

message 205: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments HAHA You can do it. You can crash with me! *GRINS* ROAD TRIP!

LOL I could do it for my 10th anniversary!! LOL not sure hubby would go for it though

message 210: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments I never said I was sane... HAHA

OMG that would be awesome. For my 10th anniversary we went to DragonCon. Why not, same weekend. LOL We looked up that anniversary gift thing and ten was something LAME. So I took my husband to his first convention. Yeah, his first was DC, I'm heartless! HAHA

message 211: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Oooh DragonCon.. that would be a fun anniversary. I know you're not sane silly Lady Ozma.

message 212: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments One thing I'll never admit to... sanity. Another... normal.

Dragoncon is insanity. I still can't believe I did that to him. I should have started him out smaller. No, I shoved him in the middle of crazyville.

message 213: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments We went to GenCon two years ago and it was a lot of fun, but a lot of mulah. We haven't gone back yet because of money. He doesn't want to go unless we can buy cool stuff.

message 214: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Yeah GenCon is megabucks. So is DC. Plan on like a grand to go to DC. between travel and food and hotel and convention... yeah.

I tend to go to cheaper conventions. I can't afford that. Not with four of us! Though this year mum and i are going to Costume Con cause it is in Baltimore. :)

My usual conventions are www.ravencon.org and www.balticon.org and MarsCon in Williamsburg but I don't know their web address.

message 215: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments It was just one thing after another.. hotel, food, PARKING... ugh, we had to pay way too much each day to park. It was so annoying. And you don't really then want to leave to find some food so you end up paying like 8 bucks for a salad. Ridiculous. And then you go to the booths.. buy a corset, some daggers... some books... god.. we spent a few hundred dollars there.

message 216: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments You have to pay at dragon, too. Urgh. At least the other conventions I do you don't have to pay!!!!

OMG just for the record, 11 is the steel anniversary.

We got so many daggers the year after DC. HAHA I mean what else do you get for steel?

message 217: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I'm confused, you mean the creation of steel?

message 218: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments 11th anniversary is "steel". So we got so many daggers and stuff that year. What else do you do for steel? HAHA That's a silly anniversary. We totally missed the leather anniversary. Bummer. Hmmm, this is year um, 15. Wonder what it is...

Egads Crystal. WTH is crystal?

message 219: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments You know... crystal shards... um those weirdly phallic stone like pieces that are somewhat transparent?

message 220: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments hmmm... i suppose we could get power cyrstals. Help our chakra and all that... but eh... I want something geeky.

I think it's time for the cinderblock of love!!!!

message 222: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments the cinderblock of love? You are speaking some weird foreign language to me sister. And what is chakra? Am I just unknowing in the ways of whatever world you're pulling this from?

message 223: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Chakra is some sort of fengshui karma thing. I'm not really sure how to explain it. Best quickie way to describe it I can think of.

As for cinderblock of love, that's me talking about something from a convention. I was telling an artist friend of mine about the whole anniversary thing and it was late and my friend was drunk and we were just being goofy and I said ten was something lame like a brick and he said 'It's a brick of love!" and somehow it became cinderblock of love and he determined if he gave one a year to his wife by the time they could afford to build a house they'd have enough cinderblocks for the basement.

It was really weird and late.

Mostly we were thinking about the geek anniversary gifts like how leather would be obviously a whip and iron would be some chain mail, etc.

Sometimes things pop out and I forget not everyone knows my weird language. LOL

message 224: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I understand. It's like when I talk librarian talk and teachers just look at me like I'm nuts. That makes a lot more sense now.

message 225: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments We probably all do it to some degree or another Sometimes it is easier to figure out than at other times. :)

Crazyville? when did you come meet my family? LOL

I would love to go to K-con I actually bought the tickets last year, but after I bought them I realized hubby would never go with me and he wouldn't be able to take off work to watch the kids for me to go so I sold them to another girl who really wanted to go but missed the deadline.

message 228: by Min (new)

Min (minbuchanan) Okay. I made some Criollo. (well started) Here's what I did:

Used my usual Creme Fraiche dark chocolate truffle recipe. (It makes a nice dense truffle that melts like butter) And I'll say in advance - I begged this truffle recipe off a friend in pastry school - I'm not allowed to give it out, sorry. I poured the truffle mixture in a low sided baking sheet one thin layer at a time. I wanted it to be a bit more airy than dense, so I think this helped. They need to set pretty much overnight. I'm going to cut them up into squares. I made only a small batch because I was using good chocolate and I'm not sure how the layering and cutting is going to work out. I usually roll the truffles into balls then cover them with dark chocolate. I didn't take pictures - sorry Alethea. It's a bit hard to do while truffle making by yourself. So I'll take pictures once they are all cut up and ready to eat. (tomorrow) Though, just like everything I make, I don't tend to eat it. ha ha. I spend so much time making and smelling the stuff that by the end I'm sort of chocolated out.

message 229: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments Oh you are so teasing me here if you need someone to eat them for you so that they don't go to waist I will take it upon myself to help you out LOL yes I know it is a big job but I think I might be able to handle it :)

message 230: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Meme, DC is media as well as literary. DC is everything really. Which is why it's so nightmarish. 90k of my not so nearest and dearest? Egads! They do it all. Art, science, literary, media, music, costuming, "adult" stuff, and more... It is impossible to take someone to dragoncon and not find something for them to do. I'm not sure anyone is THAT mundane.

Don't get me started on Crazy... you don't want to meet my inlaws. Oy.

Mindy, OMG that truffle thing sounds so yummy. My stomach is asking for food now. Oh man. Mmmmm....

message 231: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments LOL I wish it was my in laws it my side that is crazy at least that is what hubby says all the time. Hubby goes down to DC for the rally on memorial day weekend he said its great there.

message 232: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Now I wish I had done something other than fudge.. I suppose there is still time though, isn't there? Hmmmm. I will look into it. Muahahaha.

message 233: by Meme (new)

message 236: by Jacalyn (new)

Everyone, carry on--sorry I haven't been around much, have had flu all week and sinusitis + bright screen + little words do not make for a good recovery. This may make the judging a little late as well but I'll try to announce the winners asap after the contest ends...

Don't let Meme and Kristen scare you away from the prizes!!! They are tough to beat but just think of them as the Power Twins and you as the challengers...

message 240: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Awww are you feeling better Alethea? How horrid to have the flu and siusitis.. Sorry I'm hogging up all the boards. We're getting more people talking though too!

Well they are ugly to be sure. The cutting of the truffles did not go so well. They just melt and it was a mess. But they still taste good. My husband gobbled them all up. Sorry.

Alethea - I have pictures. How do I get them to you? How do you post them on a discussion board?

message 242: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Althea, you get better!!! I think we all understand... sorry you've been sick!

I'm still hopeful to get criollo, but I can't go to the grocery store till Friday. :(

Mindy, sometimes ugly stuff tastes real great. I say enjoy it and forget what it looks like. I did it once with awesome fudge that looked like poo. HAHA Looked bad, tasted awesome!

message 245: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments Meme, it has been fun being chatty! :) *GRINS*

Hey that's a good idea. Just break it up and it'll be AOK!!!! :)

I tried that with my poo fudge. Unfortunately it just looked like smaller poo. But I think that's just an extreme case. HAHA

message 246: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I agree Ozma... sometimes ugly stuff still tastes good. I'm not great at making the stuff I bake look pretty. As long as it tastes good, I'll eat it.

message 247: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 141 comments I say go by taste. :) *GRINS* Especially if it is chocolate!

message 248: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Totally! Vote me in if it tastes good, even if the frosting looks all messed up on a cake or the fudge looks like poo.. Hahaha.
