Fifty Shades of Grey

How are they going to make this into a film?

No it really is a terrible idea. There are so many better novels and novellas that would make good films (you know books that actually have a plotline) and then you have this rubbish making so much money on its own and picking up a film deal. Makes me sad.
People just want their fantasies to come to life on the screen I think.

There is a very explicit scene in there twice where her doctor ties her to the bed naked and beats her with a belt numerous times. Frankly, I was shocked it made it R rated, but if they are allowing those types of scenes now, I don't think Fifty Shades will be a problem.

To tell you the truth, I rather have them make a movie on a crappy book than the good ones. Because look at twilight, the movies RUINED it. Eragon, what the hell happened! There are so many others! Such good books turned into such bad movies :'(

They aren't bad movies at all. they are just very different from the books.
In any case thats how its actually supposed to be. Look at Gone With The Wind, which is one of the best films of that era. Its NOTHING like the book. When you have a source material for a movie its only based on the source. That means you use it for inspiration. You don't follow it like a cooking recipe.

I was noting with some amusement that at least two of the major male actors being bandied about for the lead role are outed gays - which is fine - but he will have to be a Helluva Good Actor to pull this role off! Being pretty isn't going to be enough...so the list of possibles dwindles...
I've put reviews of all 3 books separately upon GoodReads....yes, it's badly written, disorganized, with a lot of superfluous stuff in it to pad up the pages...too many meaningless characters....and while I quite liked Christian Grey...I think I liked him more before he got all romantic and emotional.
I could have done without the marriage, and definitely without the pregnancies...and that Ana was so much of a dingbat I just wanted to scream.
Another problem for me was that the characters are just too young for me to care. Christian Gray at 35-45 would have been better, I think, because he would have had even more emotional baggage to contend with.
I don't know that I want to sit through a movie with actors 20-28.....they just don't have enough life experience to make themselves interesting to me.
Having said all that - as a writer myself, I know how hard it is to pound out a book....so I commend ELJ for having had the fortitude to hammer out 3.

If they have a good director and a writer, yes the movie will be amazing! But these days, I don't know a book turned into a movie, just can't get it right. So when they take a really REALLY good book and turn it into a movie, it's badly done and everything is just 2D. I am guessing I feel this way is because I have my own imaginations about the story and when it is played out by someone else's imagination, it ruins your imagination and it is impossible later on to shake that perspective of the story.

I almost swallowed my chewing gum reading your post! HAHAHA.
Omg.
You don't mean that, right? RIGHT?
Eragon is pretty much plagiarized from all the books Paolini read + Star Wars. The movie didn't do much damage to that.

If they can make a full-length feature movie out of a Dr. Seuss book, I think they can make pretty much any kind of movie.
Sometimes, not having much of a story is good because the Hollywood writers usually do what they do "best" which is mangle the original story to make their own movie.

+1 (Like)
Your posts amuse me, Sparrowlicious. Hahaha. And I agree.

....and please please please re-write some of Christian's dialogue because him on screen speaking the way that he did in the books will be extremely cheesy in film.

Then again, the film industry will adapt every piece of whatever it is, as long as enough people bought it.

Oh, yes, I saw the movie. The whole part of it was she had propensities for wanting pain during sex because it turned her on. The doctor had an affair with her and then gave into her desires. Did you know it's a true story? Carl Jung, had an affair with a woman that he treated. As far as seeing him beat her with a belt...well, I thought it was a bit much and overdone. Maybe I was just shocked.

I am certain that I will.
* guilty as charge.*

NC-17 is the kiss of death for films! They never make any money, which for production companies, is the worst thing ever.
Anyway, if you want BDSM sex with a beautiful love story, Secretary (2002; Spader, Gyllenhaal) is a much better film.

AHAHAHAHA. well, yeah. :D

Just hope they don't concentrate on the sex scenes, they need to concentrate on the romance of the story. Honestly speaking they aren't the best sex scenes I have ever read, I thought them quite tame, not living up to the hype at all. But they are still one of the best romance books I have read in a long time. Ones I will return to again and again.

I only read this one though.

I love the secretary. 50 was completely missing Ana in her wedding dress wetting herself because Christian told her to stay in her seat and not move.

Rated R? More like X Rated, this book was clearly porn in some scenes lol.

Yeah, you're so right! :>

Just had to jump in & agree about The Edge of Never. Great book...that is a MUCH better young love story. Not a huge fan of the ending, but otherwise a fabulous book. :-)

But if they do attempt it isn't it going to have to be an R-rated movie? Really this book is 60% sex scenes so...
I honestly think XXX movie makers would have an easier time with this film if you understand me.
