At what point in the series did you feel the most emotion?

Emma For me it was when Harry is saying goodbye to Ron and Hermione (when they thought he was going to die) My emotion there would be, obviously, devastated. Is yours something sad, or something happy? (e.g. When Voldemort was defeated.)

Angela I felt the most when the Firebolt was destroyed and I didn't care. I remember when the Nimbus 2000 was destroyed and I was super upset about it. The fact that it happened again and I was almost annoyed that she was wasting time telling me about a broomstick told me how much the story had changed and how much the important stuff had changed

Kaitlin For me it was when Sirius died and Harry was screaming at Dumbledore, or possibly when Harry was in that kings cross place right after he sacrificed himself

Manua My most emotional moment was during the duel between harry and voldemort in The Goblet of Fire. I shed more than a couple of tears when the ghosts of Harry's parents appeared to help him :)

l Fred's death.

Gretchen For the final book I think it was when Hedwig or Doby died. Not because they were my favorite but because it was the unraveling of the end. Throughout the whole series though it is when Cedric died because of the strong visceral reaction from his father. I can't even remember the exact dialogue of that scene in the book but as a parent the scene in the movie breaks my heart each time.

Hedwig's death upset me, too. Hedwig had been there from the very beginning, Harry's friend. Oh, and I bawled when Dobby died.

Anushree Many moments..When Dobby dies and Harry digs the grave for him.
Dumbledore dying right after saying "Please Severus".
Harry's walk to the forest in the last book.
Fred dying with laughter on face.
Ron returns back and finishes off the horcrux...
The moments where you laugh like when Fred and George just zoom past Umbridge..Ron's comment about Animal magnetism..and just about nearly everything till the sixth book..

Now you're making me sad.
All of the above and the moment I finished the series. I know this is not exactly a moment IN the books, but there's nothing worse than realizing it was all over.

Laerke Either Fred's death or when Harry is walking towards the forest and his death.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Snape's death. :( That tore me open and left me bleeding inside.

Owaiz Dumbledore's death. Brought me to tears. I'd made up my mind to not read the next book. But then I did. And it was amazing.

Avani When Harry and Ginny finally kissed, and Harry watching Snape's memories in the Pensieve.

Hannah Christmas Starting with Fred's death, I had something close to a meltdown. It didn't stop until Harry was talking with Dumbledore in his hallucination.

message 15: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Gideon Pretty much that last half of the the 7th book. I started crying with Dobby and didn't stop. Seeing Snape's memories were probably the most emotional part during the last half for me, though Fred dying was a close second.

Owaiz Amy wrote: "Pretty much that last half of the the 7th book. I started crying with Dobby and didn't stop. Seeing Snape's memories were probably the most emotional part during the last half for me, though Fred d..."

That too. I never really liked Dobby after CoS, and found him all annoying about being free and stuff, but his demise was sooo sad.

Jerri There are many but if I had to choose one I would say Dumbledore's death...I absolutely love him and I couldn't envision the story continuing without him.

message 18: by Jeni (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeni When Sirius dies. I bawl like a baby whether watching the movie or reading the book. Here is Harry's chance at a loving home and it's just callously and instantly ripped away. (By the time Hedwig is killed, I'm just frustrated that EVERYTHING in Harry's life is death and destruction.) But Sirius' death just devastated me.

message 19: by Eva (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eva in the books i dont remember, but in the movies i teared up when dobbie died, when fred, tonks and lupin died, when ginny screams thinking harry is dead, and snapes memory. but tears were rolling down my face when harry goes to the forest and sees his parents, lupin and sirius...

message 20: by Eva (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eva i havent seen the 5th and 6th movie though...

Samantha The Escapist I'm sorry guys, I have to list a few and they're definitely not all the MOST emotion:

Beginning of the second book: Harry receives birthday cards for the first time in his life and I cry for some reason :P Also the warning from Maffalda Hopkirk made me SO mad.

4th movie: like Gretchen (and though I do not have kids) Diggory's father in that scene made the death mean so much more than it ever had in the book.
Later Moody's betrayal cut me DEEEEEP.

5th book: I've never been so angry as I was reading about Umbridge, when she took their brooms especially. I was shaking with anger most of the time reading about her, I still do on rereads. I think if she were real I'd have no qualms about murdering her.

6th book: Dumbledores death I simply shut the book and went for a loong walk outside before I could come back and finish it.
Also when the family was sitting around Bill's bed and Molly and Fleur had that adorable moment and Lupin and Tonks were dating I cried all over. Also the phoenix song and then he leaves forever...

7th movie: Harry and Hermione dancing to a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song (be still my heart!) I cried in the theatre, it was a beautiful moment and communicated their situation so well (even though I know many don't like it)

7th book: Most overwhelming might be the dedication, the lightning bolt that told me thankyou for sticking with Harry till the end. On "end" my tears hit the page and I realized it was correct and this was the end. I was too overwhelmed to read and had to try back in an hour lol.
Then an hour later when I got to Hedwig's death I had to leave it AGAIN because it was too much (she was mad at him when she died!!) By the time we got to Moody I was alright.

-Hermione's broken heart after Ron leaves
-Ron's triumphant return

Fred's death later didn't do nearly as much as the casual mention of Lupin and Tonks side by side in the great hall.

Finally like most of you said, The Forest Again, even though I was already crying I was actually sobbing while Harry walked over and kissed the snitch, when he summoned his parents and finally someone told him they were proud and he was doing right by the world and all he could ask, here at the end of it all, was the incredibly childlike question to his mum of "does it hurt" I couldn't even SEE the words after that. It reminded me that Harry, though a hero, is still so very young.

message 22: by F B (new) - rated it 5 stars

F B Agree with Samantha ^^

i cried like baby when Harry asked his parents "Does it hurt?" referring to death. It is by faaaaar the most emotional part ever.. he is still a child! he doesn't have to die!!

Just thinking about it makes me want to blubber all over and I know how it ends. I have to say this is the most emotionally charged ending to any book or series I've ever encountered and I do read quite a lot.

Gargi The Prince's Tale and The Mirror of the Erised (It's okay, Ronnie!).

message 25: by Devie (last edited Aug 09, 2012 10:40AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Devie snape's memories and the death of hedwig (it's when I fully realize that many of the good characters will soon die)and the death of fred just when percy came back for his family. (on the last book, I'm crying while reading the last few chapters)

in every harry potter book, i shed tears especially when I closed the last book.

message 26: by Mark (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mark For me, a lot of the things that made me the most emotional involved the dynamic between Mrs. Weasley and Harry. When she tells Sirius that Harry is as good as her son, when Harry finds her sobbing while trying to rid the desk of the Bogart and of course her battle with bellatrix.

Evelyn When Sirius died, I couldn't stop crying and refused to read the rest of the book for over a month. Sirius and Remus in the fire, asking eagerly about James in the fifth book. On re-reading HP7, I thought that the most touching moment was Snape's last request.

Elizabeth Day Probably the very end, or maybe when Harry was watching Snape's memories.

Nicole Hadenfeldt I think I was pretty emotional during Snape's memories, but to be honest I'm still fist pumping from when Harry came back to the school and kicked ass when Professor McGonagall was spit on. Not the sadest part, but you asked for emotion, right? ;)

Anushree Nicole wrote: "to be honest I'm still fist pumping from when Harry came back to the school and kicked ass when Professor McGonagall was spit on. Not the sadest part, but you asked for emotion, right? ;) "

Agreed...You actually feel as if you are doing it and simultaneously extremely proud of Harry doing it..well, if you know what I mean..!!!

Spencer Probably the whole chapter: the Battle of Hogwarts. It was so exhilerating.

message 32: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma Allow me to explain my earlier reason: When Harry said goodbye to Ron and Hermione. As soon as he made his decision to die, I burst into tears. I didn't even like Harry much, to be honest. But he was the hero! He had been through too much to just die! Then when Hermione just knew what he was going to do, she started crying, and I could just SEE the expression on Ron's face. Confused, and then scared, and then shocked, and then all of them at once. I started crying even harder. The trio! That was when I started crying in the movie theatre, too.

anjali When Harry went into Snape's memory... God, that was a tear-fest.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

The whole series had a different feeling when Voldemort returned in GoF.
I think the saddest moment for me was either Sirius' death or Snape's memories. I'm not sure when I cried more (and I usually don't cry while reading)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

When Lupin and Tonks died. I cried. That was so uncool.

Samantha The Escapist MarK: "when Harry finds her sobbing while trying to rid the desk of the Bogart"

Hit the nail on the head with that one! Forgot about it. Harry and Molly were always interesting, and I loved how badly she needed to mother him even though she wasn't really allowed to be his guardian.

Swagata I cried when Sirius and then Dumbledore died.
Sirius is one of my most favourite characters and I was so sorry that he had to die.

message 38: by Ruby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ruby Deathly Hallows.

It just has to be when Harry goes into the Great Hall and discovers just how many died in his name. I think I really started the sob-a-ton when we discovered the fate of Lupin and Tonks.

Yasashmi Toughie. It was very natural for me to cry like a baby as I read, but I'll go with Sirius', Dumbledore's and Fred's deaths.

message 40: by Kaeri (last edited Aug 14, 2012 08:23AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kaeri Deathly Hallows, The Forest Again.

Gosh, it was emotional because that was when it hit me that Harry Potter was really ending. That there will be no book 8. That the story was about to end. You could feel it in the air as you read through that chapter. I felt a strong pang of loss in my heart... like someone just broke up with me.

Oh yeah, that was the first time I got my eyes watery, when the Nimbus was destroyed, especially because it said something like it was like a friend to Harry and he did not want to throw the pieces out.

message 47: by Lea (last edited Aug 14, 2012 07:39PM) (new) - added it

Lea I believed the whole time that Harry, Ron and Hermione were going to make it. Thank goodness that turned out alright. I cried when Dumbledore, Sirius, and Fred died, and when I thought Harry was going to die, I pretty much had tears in my eyes until the end of the book. There are some other parts that bear mentioning though. When I found out how evil Umbridge really was, and the way Fred and George kicked her ass when they left - that was great. I loved all the books, but I reread Deathly Hallows the most often, and once I start I have to finish it like it's a drug. The first part makes me shiver everytime; Charity Burbage hovering above that table, crying for Snape...I always read that part twice, it's terrifying. I love when everyone turns into Harry using Polyjuice Potion, and how they have to threaten him to make him go along with it. I cried when I read about Hermione modifying her parents memories, and when Ron returned to them in the forest. I also cried when they heard Lee Jordan and friends on Potterwatch, I was so caught up in the story, I needed that relief to know everything was going to be okay. Of course, the book only gets more epic as it goes on. But some parts that really stick in my head...Hagrid crying when he's carrying Harry's body...all the incredible-ness that has become Neville; from when they open the portrait hole until Voldemort puts the Sorting Hat on his head...when Percy tumbles through the portrait hole to rejoin his family, and then when him and Fred are laughing and battling together...when the house-elves join the fight, led by Kreacher wearing his locket. During the aftermath of the battle, when I realized Lupin and Tonks didn't make it.

Lea Geez, I really geeked out there. Now, I'm going to have to read it again soon.

When snape died.

Samantha The Escapist Lea wrote: "I cried when I read about Hermione modifying her parents memories, and when Ron returned to them in the forest. You know, the thing about Hermione and her parents didn't hit me nearly as hard in the book as in the movie, that scene was gorgeous and heartbreaking! I cried right away lol.

And yeah, I felt soooo intense all the time while reading about them camping out, I distinctly remember 7 in the morning still reading the book since I got home from the midnight release I desperately had to pee but everything was so scary and intense that I felt like I would be ambushed the instant I opened my bedroom door.

And then another one no one mentioned was the heartbreaking puppy-like faith all the DA members had in Harry when he turned up again and how baffled he was by it. And how fiercly McGonnagle reacted to his return and then how fiercly she protected him...

Damn I might have to read DH again...
