Kaz. Hi Catherine and Kendra you will find lots of great authors here I sure have and my "To Be Read" list is out of control but I am loving it.

Jennifer (jnhart) | 97 comments Hi, my name's Jennifer. I flipped for Laurell K. Hamilton. Can't wait for Skin Trade. Now I'm on the prowl for other good series to read. I really liked the House of Night series. And I'm almost done with the Kitty series by Carrie Vaughn.

message 56: by Sara (new)

Sara (leelan) | 51 comments Hey everyone I'm new here. It's sorta crazy I'm 35 years old and pretty much have spent those years watching tv. Yeah I have read books throughout my life but NEVER was someone that would go from one book to the next. Found out was what I was reading. I was forced to read the Twilight Series and that was all it took. Now I can't stop and never will. Love the fantasy romance, vampire etc. stuff the most but am open to everything. Would love to get some feedback from everyone on what I should read next. You can see what I have read so far. Am just starting the Stookie Stackhouse books, the covers seemed juvinile which is why I haven't started them until now. Any recommendations?

message 57: by Jess (last edited May 19, 2009 04:27PM) (new)

Jess | 3721 comments The Sookie books have really bad covers, but they are not YA books at all. Definitely worth reading.

Some suggestions:
Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series - SO FANTASTIC!
Lara Adrian's Breed Series (very similar to BDB but not as intense)
Lynsay Sands has two great series. One is her Argenaue Vamps series which is more PNR and has a happily ever after. and then her rogue hunter series. Also good.
Laurell K. Hamilton has some books that are considered to be Urban Fantasy that have some sex involved
Kresley Cole has a great series - Immortals After Dark. Each book focuses on a different character in the paranormal world.
Christine Feehan has a bunch of series out there that are great. Her Dark series, her Ghostwalkers (my favorite), and her Drake sisters.

I can go on and on, but those are some of my favorites.

Welcome to the group btw ;)

Sara (leelan) | 51 comments Sweet thanks guys!!! This is so much better than just walking the isle wondering what to get. It really is hard to not judge a book by its cover sometimes.

message 59: by Nita (new)

Mellady77 Stibich | 3 comments Hello my name is Mel and I love paranormal/fantasy books and romance stories(love not lust.) It only makes sense that I love the genres while they are combined. While I normally shy away from Vamps I do love the Twilight series. I also love the Outlander series and Neil Gaiman's Stardust. I'm joining hoping to broaden my horizon on books to read.

Hi. I just joined and thought I would introduce myself. I'm Josie and have only recently discovered goodreads & I love it here. Look forward to hearing about some new books & authors.

message 73: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Hi Josie, you will find lots of new books and authors here before you know it I'm sure. :-)

What books have you read so far?

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Karen wrote: "What books have you read so far?"

Just finished Thorn Queen, so now I have read all of Richelle Mead's books. Have also read Southern Vampire Series this year and enjoyed that too.

My "to-read" list is growing longer & longer. I can't stop adding to it.

I have Anita Blake, Mortal Instruments & Black Dagger Brotherhood ready to read. Now if I could spend less time online reading these forums and more time with the books, I might actually make a dent in that list.

message 75: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Hey Josie, welcome to the group!

Ana (anacnunes) Hi, I'm Ana and I'm pretty new to both Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to read a lot from the genres.
Hope to get some good recommendations around here and to actually keep up with the monthly reads.

message 81: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Robertson (stacy1983) | 4 comments Hey, I am Stacy. I started with Chrsitine Feehan the dark series....my addiction started from there. I have all the dark series to date, love them!! Then i went onto Sherrylin Kenyons Dark-Hunter series have all of those too, then Charlaine Harris was next Sookie Stackhouse soon joined my rather large collection and Mary Janice Davidsons Undead series and twilight is my newest thing i got into i love it (didnt much like the movie though!!) Joining here has given me a new list of authors to get hooked on now!! Hehe my other half wont be impressed i keep putting his books in the attic to make room for mine.

message 82: by Debs (new)

Debs | 4 comments Hi My Name is Deb I enjoyed the twilight so much I am now lost on what to read next as I enjoy paranornmal alot I dont wish to start reaa rubbish book. friends suggested Laurell K Hamilton, but as I have missed so many good books I dont know were to start I also enjoyed Anne rice Interview with a vamp. Any suggestions were to start: Debs

message 83: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse are first rate, as are Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson books. If you like a little wizardry try Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books. I could go on, but these come to mind quickly. LKH's Anita Blake series starts out great, but goes down hill and they are WORLDS away from TWILIGHT.

message 86: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Good to see you here Adele, I will have to get in and read the Riley Jenson books soon since you have highly recommended them.

Adele (mooturtil) Karen wrote: " I will have to get in and read the Riley Jenson books soon since you have highly recommended them."
keri arthur lives in victoria like myself. i read her books and i intantly know where she is talking about. i love that. i'm assuming that is what it would be like for someone who lives in america, and a book is talking about the local sights etc.

message 88: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Yes that would be great, I have visited the northern parts of Victoria as my sister used to live in Albury Wodonga , we used to go snow skiing at Mt.Buffalo & at Falls Creek, it sure is a pretty spot.

What parts of Victoria are her books based at?

Marissa (marissagarrison) | 8 comments Hi -
I'm Marissa, live in Central Texas... and am a book-aholic... lol
I'm doing a 100 book challenge in one of my other book clubs, so have been reading like crazy this year!!!
Just finished Dream Fever by Karen Marie Moning, and I love love love that series, can't get enough of it. Back to reading Black Dagger Brotherhood now, onto book 4. Hope it can hold up to Z's book, cause that was fantastic.
Fave authors are: Sherrilyn Kenyon, K. Moning, Gena Showalter, JR Ward, Alyssa Day, Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris (as far as romance novels go...)
Looking forward to chatting with the group!

message 94: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments So I just realized that I have never formally introduced myself on here! Which considering that I'm a moderator, probably not the best thing. So, although a lot of you already have gotten to know me pretty well, here goes.

My name is Kelley Anne, and yes, I do go by Kelley Anne, not Kelley. For years, my family insisted on just calling my Kelley, but then my only sibling, my brother, married a girl named Kelli. So, with 2 of us, it became imperative to start calling me Kelley Anne. I am 27 years old, not married, no kids, and I live just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.

I love basically anything urban fantasy or paranormal romance. Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Richelle Mead are some of my favorites. Just the other day a couple of you got mad at me when you found out I have never read anything by JR Ward or Laurell K Hamilton, lol! So, as soon as I get through all of the great new books coming out in the next 2 weeks, I'll check them out. Considering that Ward is most likely winning the author of the month contest, it's be a good time to read her books.

If I'm not reading fantasy, my favorite author is probably Vince Flynn. He writes political thrillers and I love his books!

I listen to a ton of audio books as well as reading regular books. And I am completely addicted to reading. I swear, it's my drug of choice! Anyways, that's me! Any questions? :)

Welcome to the group Adele! Glad to have a fellow Keri Arthur fan! I just LOVE the Riley Jensen series, it's one of my fav's! You and I have very similar tastes in the series we like! If you haven't tried them yet, you should look into the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward! They are a must read if you like vamps! And very cool that you live where the Riley Jensen books are set!!:) It is very cool to be able to read about places and know exactly where they are talking about, that was what it was like for me with Twilight and with Mercy Thompson as I live in Oregon and have been to both of the towns those books are set in!:)

I have read just about everything she has written, and I recently joined a PR/UF book club, and found that I love Jacquelyn Frank, Nalini Singh, J.R. Ward, Lora Leigh, and Sherrilyn Kenyon.
