Hello to all! Looking forward to 2013 and all those BOOKS out there! I love to read good stories, especially enjoy crime & mystery, and belong to a local book club where we meet once a month. Work full time, so most of my reading is done in bed late at night! Also have a Nook and the Kindle on my Ipad and Droid, so I'm never without a book to read. Favorite authors off the top of my head are Dennis Lehane, Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Karin Slaughter, Michael Connelly & Alice Hoffman. And the list keeps growing! Looking forward to 2013 with you all.
Hi, my name's Jason. I am 26 years old, a student of writing st the University of East London and an avid fan of fantasy. I truly hope one day to write something akin to Tolkien but for the moment I'm just focused on my studies and finding a new home for the girlfriend and I.
Hi, I am Alice. I love reading, I am a researcher at a university, and mom of a 7 months old girl. I was looking for a site where people were reading and discussing books of all kinds, and I am thrilled to find goodreads and this community. I am totally a new member to the site and to this group. I like to challenge myself to read more and to learn more every day. So, this group is like home. I hope to know more many of you.
Hello, all!Kara, how is yours pronounced? I'm a "KAH-ruh" rather than a "KAIR-uh."
Jason, have you written anything yet? If you're ever looking for an amateur proofreader, I'd be happy to offer my services free of charge. :)
I'm also terribly impressed by all of you with kids who still find so much time to read! I can't imagine it myself.
Hi,My name is Julie. Joined Goodreads a couple of months ago but hadn't looked into joining any groups until today, and this is the first group I have joined. I am looking forward to the reading challenges for 2013.
Hi! My name is Erin! This is the first book group I have been part of, I used to be an avid reader until I got snowed under with work and my kindle went kaput.. Now I have my kindle back and want to get back into the habit of reading regularly. I want to read at least a book a month hopefully 2 a month for 2013.
Hi, I am Tabea and I don't read as much as I would like to (hence the challenge). I am from Germany, but I live in Iceland which has a huge reading culture.
Hi! I'm Marisa from Lisbon, Portugal! I've always loved to read, but ever since college + post grad + workaholic me took over, I never read anything other than technical books.
I'm determined to change that, and I already have a 30 book pile to read for the next year!
Hello, I have rediscovered the joy of reading and I love it. Mostly ready books that I can learn from....
Hello! I'm Mariana form Cancun, Mexico. I would love to read at least 50 books this 2013, but it gets harder as I grow up. :) Well I hope I can make my goal this new year.
Hiya book buddies! I'm Rachel, adoptive mother to 1 beautiful daughter (hopefully a son soon!), and I'm fairly recently re-discovering reading. I read all the time as a kid and through middle school, but I petered out in high school and only remembered how much I like it a couple of years ago. It's been a slow process, but I'm getting there!Mostly I just aspire to be a book-worm/scholar, but I tend to get distracted easily and/or bored while reading. My goal is to read 50 books in 2013, which should be very challenging for me since I read so slow...but who knows? With the help of all the fun features of this group (and my new Kindle Paperwhite Christmas gift) maybe 50 books in a year won't be hard at all! Although, I'll have to stop reading people's posts and book suggestions and get to the actual books if I have any chance at all. I just spent a ridiculous amount of time perusing this group and it is so fun!!
I've never participated in anything like this, so the fun challenges and social aspect to reading is extremely appealing to me. I do participate in a live-action, monthly book-club, but this online community seems like it could really add a lot to my reading experience. I'm so excited to get started!!
Hello, my name is Rumil. I'm 22 years old and currently attending college in pursuit of a teaching career. My greatest love is poetry and high fantasy books are a very close second. I joined this group because I'd like to get to know fellow book lovers instead of just being a hermit :)
I joined this group because it seems to be a very active group of people! The challenges look very interesting. I now read about a book a week but am hoping to double that. Just reading some of the posts has inspired me to take it up a notch!
Hi! I'm Jenny, and I joined just recently. I'm hoping to read 50 books in 2013, and this group looked like the perfect place to give me the encouraging boost I need to achieve this goal. I also enjoy writing and strive to do that whenever I can. In the spirit of Christmas I just finished reading "The Christmas Carol," which I thoroughly enjoyed. My favorite author is Nicholas Sparks, and I enjoy reading fiction, "stunt non-fiction" books such as "Eat, Pray, Love" and "The Happiness Project" and celebrity memoirs. Non reading activities I enjoy are running, going to the movies, concerts and spending time with family and friends. Good luck to everyone with their challenges this year!
Hello everyone and I hope that you have all had a wonderful holiday season! My name is Mallory and I just joined about 5 minutes ago. I joined this group because it looks like there is alot of activity and friendly people. I set a goal last year for 100 books, and I didn't even come close, so this year I hope to read 75. 2012 was not a greatest year for me, so I fell behind in my reading due to work, family, and other things. However, I am determined 2013 to make my goal, meet new people, and learn new things! If anyone has some good books that they just LOVED, please send their titles my way. I am always looking for something good and different. I read a little bit of everything, so any suggestions are welcome!!
Hello, I'm Regan from Wisconsin...brr! I've gotten back into reading these past 6 months and have been on GR as long. I enjoy Urban Fantasy and Realistic Fiction the best...but read from mostly all genres :)Nice to meet all of you
Hey, everyone! I'm Lexy, and I'm really excited to get involved with this group! I have already set my personal challenge for 2013, and although I'm sure I'll read a couple of books yet in 2012, I'm looking forward to a clean slate in the new year. I'm 22, from Canada, and, like all of us here, I love to read. I have an affinity for historical fiction, but I read just about anything! I'm certainly not picky when it comes to good books.
I'm really looking forward to getting to know some of you soon!
Hi...my name is Debra. I love to read just about anything. This is the first group that I have belonged to and so I am not sure where to get started...but I am sure it will be fun.
Hi there! I am Melody and I read alot! Been reading outside my normal genre but love it! I once chased Stephen King around the state of Maine trying to get his autograph on my copy of the Shining! Never got it but still a huge fan! Love suspense, horror, thriller, autobiographical and collecting old cookbooks! Look forward to hearing from you!
My name is James and I serve in the United States Air Force which I have proudly been a part of for 23 years. I have been married to the love of my life for nearly 20 years and have a son and daughter who are both in high school. I am working on my Masters in History and love to read books that deal in history (big surprise I know). The one thing that I most enjoy about Goodreads is that it enables me to keep up with books as I find stumble upon them and when I need a book to read, I can look at my list of "would like to read" and pick something.
Hi. I'm Crissi. I, admittedly, don't read enough and was hoping this forum might push me to do more of it. I'm a single mom, work full time, and most of the reading I do is for my classes which I attend part-time. I tend to collect classic literature such as Kafka, Dostoyevsky, Faulkner, Dante, Milton, Orwell, etc., etc. Honestly the list goes on and on because I'm addicted. The problem is that I never make time to read them. So, I'm hoping to change that by making some goals here. ;) Anyway... thanks for having me.
Hello, I'm Adna.I love reading. I like all kinda of books and authors and will be willing to read and try anything new.
Hello everyone! I'm Vani. I'm a bit busy right now with school, but will still hopefully finish my goal for 2013! My favorite books are HP (as shown by my profile pic), Perks of Being a Wallflower and the Belgariad series of David Eddings. I really hope to finish more classics next year. :)
Hi! My name is Destiny i'm a High School student in Puerto Rico. I LOVE reading and writing, music and making music. Photographs and taking them, hearing and speaking. I love to love and I love to give. But mostly I love reading because it gives me inspiration, it makes me travel all around the world while I'm still in my room. And speaking about my room, I have a mini library in it, I love collecting every book I read and wait until I don't remember it so I can read it again. I've read lots of books and I hope that in 2013 I'll have read more than 100.
Welcome to all the new members! Have fun joining in with all the challenges. Destiny - I love to forget about books and read them again later too! It's almost as great as reading them for the first time :)
I can't believe how fast this group is growing now. Two days ago we had 598 members and we now have 631!
Hi! I'm Michelle. I've always been a huge fan of reading, but got away from it for about 10 years. I had to give away most of my physical books because of space issues. But I got a Kindle Fire this year and happily have a huge library again, and a TON of catching up to do! I started mid-year so I didn't set a goal, but I've read 50-70 since April, depending on if I count omnibus editions as 1 book or as each individual book that it contains. So I think I'll aim for 100 in 2013. I'm not going to plan out which books ahead of time, because as soon as I feel like I have to read something, I no longer want to read it. I like to alternate between reading new to me books and rereading old favorites, which I'm still counting toward the goal since I've never read the Kindle editions before ;)
I think that's enough rambling for one morning.. YAY BOOKS!
Hi there! My name is Ashley and I love, LOVE, to read. I've been on Goodreads for a while, but this is my first attempt to network or join any groups. I'm a high school English teacher and my favorite book of all time is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Happy New Year everyone. I can be found either curled up with my nose buried in my Nook or in my kitchen stirring and whisking. My two creative passions are reading and cooking/baking. it's easy to find people to share the fruits of my baking with but not as easy to find someone to get excited with over a new book. I love the idea of a group to enthuse over or compare notes on whatever reading treasure I've found.
I would like to welcome all of our new members! We are excited that you choose this group and look forward to joining you in reading many books in 2013. :)
Hi, I'm Gaijinmama, from Connecticut and Los Angeles but living permanently in Tokyo. I teach English at a couple of universities here, and I'm Mom to two beautiful bicultural kids(one of whom is taller than me now).
I have been a book-addict my whole life. I will read anything as long as it's good. I just love paranormal romance and urban fantasy (and if that's wrong I don't want to be right!) but I also love history (fictional and nonfictional) and I also make a point of reading at least a few classics every year. In 2012 I spent almost three months on The Count of Monte Cristo. It's long and complicated, but a darn good story and definitely worth the time.
Looking forward to chatting with you all.
Hey!I'm Angela, a former book-nerd who lost her way during the college years. Recently graduated with a degree in journalism from SF State and found myself with amazing amounts of free time--at least until I find a full-time journalism job ;) Making my way into the book world at a fast pace. Now I can finally read the books I purchased but never had time to get to.
Hello people, I'm Swamini Joglekar, and I just joined this group, because man, I love the challenges! Still learning my way around here, and am super-excited to do a challenge! I'm studying, doing my bachelor's degree and Chartered Accountancy in India and my favourite genres are crime and mystery, history and fiction - all types
Hello everyone! I am so excited about this challenge!! I am a teacher and avid reader, not to mention a book hoarder. I have lots of great books i want to read this year. Can't wait!!
Welcome, all!Gaijinmama: The Count of Monte Cristo is one of our buddy reads for January! If you would like to join the discussion, you can jump in here.
Angela: I totally miss San Francisco. I lived in the South Bay for five years before moving to Michigan. An d I totally hear you--my reading practically ground to a halt while I was in undergrad.
Hi, my name is Shawna and I am a Marine Corps wife. As a mother of 2 (3yo and 6 mos) I read when I can. I love historical fiction like the Historian and Angels and Demons. I most recently read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, which was awesome and of course WAY better than the movie. I am currently reading Princess of Mars by Burroughs which is the first book in the John Carter series. Can't wait to start on nexr months challenges!
Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm happily married mom of 3 grandmother of 4 (with 5th on the way). I live in South Carolina. I will read just about anything, but have a hard time with some of the Sci-Fi.
Hi, I'm Katrina. I have been an avid reader since fifth grade when I first read Flowers in the Attic. I don't think I quite understood the book completely at the time, but it gave me such a since of accomplishment to be able to read a grown-up book from start to finish. That began my life long love of books! I love to browse the thrift stores to see if there are any good books that need a new home. I read all different types of books, but have not found a love for sci-fi and zombies; haven't jumped on that band wagon yet.
hello all, i love reading and i love challenges so i was excited to see this group. in my spare time (between chasing a 4 yr old, working and finishing my computer science degree) i love to put on some music and get into a good book. i will read almost anything but am going to focus on reading more non fiction this year. i have been subjecting my brain to way to much reality tv this past year so i need to counter act that with some 'smart' books :) good luck to everyone this year
Hi,I'm Gecko from Germany and a passionate reader since I learned my ABC. I joint this group to get more active on GR and challenge myself to read more and to write more in English.
I'm married without children, but a lovely little niece, and for a living I care for a bunch of mentally handicapped people. Reading is my way to relax but also to give me input and brain-work if the working days are lacking this kind of thing.
I also love good movies, good food and cocking, some crafts.
2013 I would like to melt my TBR-shelf a bit, and I think the challenges in this group are a fun way to do so.
Hi to everyone,I've been a very keen reader all my life (well, since I learnt to read, anyway!) - sometimes a little too keen since other tasks can come a very poor second to reading!
I finished studying a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at the end of last year and am currently unemployed, which means I can get through a lot of books at the moment :-) And thank goodness for my local library so that it is a free activity! I currently live in Brisbane, Australia although that will most likely change depending on where I find work.
I joined Goodreads a couple of years ago, but didn't get very involved with it at the time. Now I've discovered the smartphone app and I think I'm addicted to it! I originally downloaded it to help me manage my TBR lists (I had several in various places) however, it's so easy to add books I'd like to read, and I see so many interesting possibilities in people's posts in other groups I have joined, that reducing my list seems like a hopeless cause!
I've never read books according to challenges before, and am enjoying finding and reading books according to a list. Normally my reading matter is chosen based on what's available in the library and looks appealing or what books I've been given and not yet read.
Looking forward to a productive year of reading in 2013 (especially since I am now keeping track of what I read, thanks to Goodreads) and joining in with challenges and/or group reads.
Hello every im Stacie and I hope thisnis not a duplicate intro but im learning my way around goodreads.
I love reading and will read just about anything but YA is my new favorite.
