Hi everyone! I'm Alex and I'm 20, 21 in a few weeks. Wife and newbie hairdresser from Florida. I've found myself with an abundance of free time lately and I've been slacking on reading too, so I'm giving myself a huge jump start and I think challenges are going to be a really fun way to do that. I think I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi the most, but I'll read absolutely anything.

Hi everyone! I'm Amy, I'm 19 and haven't been reading much over the last few years. I've recently got back into it as I do enjoy it, and will read anything. I particularly enjoy books with well-developed plots and characters :-)
Hi everyone! I'm Fiona, a college student in Seattle, and a lifelong reader. I enjoy almost all types of literature, but i especially enjoy fiction and fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are Tamora Pierce, Walter Moers, JK Rowling, and Cornelia Funke. I dream of becoming a writer some dayday
oops, phone error sent that early! anyways, I look forward to traveling through literature with you guys, and eagerly anticipate future discussions!

Well I thought it was Rob Thurman because her books are in the science-fiction section of Barnes and Noble, but I had the recent realization thanks to this site that she falls under paranormal, not really sci-fi so I'm questioning some of my picks haha. I really enjoy C.S. Lewis though, and Neal Shusterman. And I really enjoy dystopias I'm finding out. Who are your favorites?

Thank you!

If I read a few more good Asimov's, he might just become better than OSC in my eyes! lol
Hi Everyone! This is Emma and Cecilia!
We're book buddies and we love reading!
We love dystopian and YA Fiction but will go for anything!
Our favourite authors are J.K Rowling, Lauren Oliver, Veronica Roth and Cecelia Ahern :)
Welcome, Emma and Cecilia! I think it's awesome that you guys did a joint GR account. Question, though: what happens if you disagree on a book rating?
Hello! I've been a goodreads member for ages, but didn't know about these challenges - so glad to have found you all! I'm a single mom to a boy with autism, and love to read. I like goodreads because I hate that feeling of trying to figure out what to read next, and I love lists! I'm going to try a quarterly challenge for the remaining months of 2012. Wish me luck!
Welcome Anna! That's great that you can find time to read while being a single parent! The lists are great - I could search listopia for hours and not get bored, haha. ;)Good luck. :D
Hi Anna! Welcome to the group. :) We always have lots of recommendations for what to read next. Do you think you'll be joining any of our buddy reads?
Thanks, Trevor! Thanks, Kara! To tell you the truth I had to look up what a buddy read was.. still learning the lingo :) I would like to join a buddy read!
Hi My name is Kathleen. A friend told me about this site and I am still learning how to use it :)I have always enjoyed reading. For awhile I got in the habit of only reading what my mom handed down to me.....mostly Nora Roberts. Now I am finding I like alot of different kinds of books and this site helps me find even more!
Welcome, Kathleen! This site is great for recommendations. My TBR (to-be-read) list just keeps growing and growing. We have an activity that connects you with another reader who likes the same types of books you do. If you'd like to participate, sign up here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...(I will note that this seems to be a fairly slow month. Usually we have way more participants.)
Hello, everyone! I'm Candiss in Washington State. I have one son who has recently turned 18 and one bossy cat who thinks she's the parent of us both. Besides reading, I love music (everything from classical to experimental electronica,) movies, video games and cooking, and I'm trying to teach myself to knit. I'm an avid reader (Aren't we all?) of a variety of genres, but my faves tend to have a speculative or questioning element about them - science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, surrealist, mystery. I also love classics, historical fiction, non-fiction, satire, and graphic novels.
Hello from Tokyo, Japan! I'm happy I found this group! I have been enjoying this challenge this year - some books I read were sooooooo goooooood! I mainly read novels, but my passion is poetry - Mary Oliver is my all time (like for 20 years) favorite. I also read non-fictions and lately I read a lot of self-help kinds (Yea, going through a phase!).
Being a Japanese in Japan, I don't have many friends to talk about books written in English. I'll be looking forward to talking about books with members here - and I really appreciate book suggestions!

Welcome Tam!
Welcome, Candiss, Tam, and Richetta! Candiss, sounds like we like the same kinds of books.
Tam, there's a few of us who quite like poetry here. Maybe we can do a poetry buddy read for November--it'd be new for the group, and I bet it'd be a lot of fun.
Richetta, we have a blog thread! You should post yours, and we'll take a look.
Welcome Candiss, Tam and Richetta! I hope you enjoy our challenges, and I look forward to chatting books and being book buddies!Yes Tam, if you have a book of Poetry you would like to read for the month of November, I would be happy to make a thread for it! :)
Hi Sara! Welcome to the group. :) If you love classic novels, you might be interested in reading/sharing in the discussion of our group read this month, Frankenstein! Here is the discussion: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
Haha, no idea. I have been to Alabama but have never lived there. I was born and raised in North Carolina. Two years ago I moved to Missouri, and now I live in Illinois, lol. I can't wait to settle down somewhere! I call North Carolina home though. :)
Hi, I'm Sasha and I live in the DC area. My one long-lasting hobby has been reading, and since I've lived in 3 different countries when I was a kid, I read a mix of Russian, Japanese and English-language books, even though lately it's been overwhelmingly in English. This probably explains why one of my favorite novels is the Russian translation of Ivanhoe..? I like a mix of books (of course) but mostly I like quirky/unusual contemporary fiction, magic realism, creepy kind of horror, humor and adventure books (and I don't care if it's children's, YA or adult fiction)
Hi all! I'm Kuri! Found this group through Wil Wheaton's page *blush*Hoping to get involved with this group and set some lofty goals. I have very eclectic tastes in literature, so if anyone has "to read" suggestions, drop me a line!
Welcome, Sasha and Kuri!Sasha, I bet we like the same kinds of books--maybe we can do a buddy read together some time.
Kuri, I'm glad you found us! We always have lots of recommendations. :) What kinds of books do you like?

I'm not a picky reader. I'm a bibliophile when it comes to books. I'll read anything once...just not romance novels from harlequin publishing :P
Kara, I'd love to do a buddy read. There's a couple of books that I started and abandoned, just because I couldn't read them by myself.. (the likes of Infinite Jest, haha)
Hello my name is Renae Richardson. I am a wife and mother of three kids. Reading has always been a passion of mine. I read maybe about 20-30 books a year on average. I have never been a part of a reading club or taken part in a reading challenge and I find it very exciting and interesting.
Sasha wrote: "Kara, I'd love to do a buddy read. There's a couple of books that I started and abandoned, just because I couldn't read them by myself.. (the likes of Infinite Jest, haha)"Awesome! Pick a book you'd like to read and post it here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Others will jump in if they'd like to read it with you.
Hi everyone! I recently found my way here via the Goodreads app. I was an avid reader until college, then for have scaled down to light. I love the idea of goals and challenges to get me back to being the girl that always has a book (or kindle) in her hand. I'm looking forward to discussing them, too!
