Amanda (snugshelf) I really enjoyed Grave Mercy. Some of the political things kind of went over my head in terms of how they relate to the actual political situation at that time, but the book still managed to make me interested in all the intrigue.
I thought Ismae was a great main character, even though the headstrong, nontrusting kick-butt MC is getting to be everywhere lately. I'm not complaining though, these characters are so much better than the wishy washy man-worshipping type that are also everywhere.
I also can't wait to read more about Sybella in the next book, and Ismae and Duvall of course.
Also, was anyone else reminded of Poison Study by Maria Snyder?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 270 comments I had a friend tell me it reminded her of Poison Study, so I'm curious to see if I'll notice it as well.

Christie (cereale) It definitely reminded me of Poison Study. I read this book back in May and loved it. Finished it in less than 2 days and its a pretty big book and I work full-time so that tells you how much I enjoyed it :-). I loved the intersection of a fictional religion with real historical events and characters in the book. Ismae also grows a lot throughout the story and I appreciate books where the characters are allowed to grow and change. The romance was predictable but I enjoyed it as well.

Maree | 99 comments It was a predictable romance, I agree, but I enjoyed it very much as well. I liked the learning and generally just how dangerous she was and how the men knew it. That's a very nice balancing of levels, especially for that day and age. I had a little trouble keeping track of who was who and what was what, but all in all, I thought it was a great plot with interesting twists and turns. I'm a fan. I would say I'd read the next one, but I do understand it focuses on a different girl, so I'm not in a hurry.

Emily (librarylil) I've been third on the library waiting list for Grave Mercy since July 26th. It does not look like I will get a copy in time, but I do plan to read it eventually!
