Elizabeth☮ i have a tendency to do as much reading as i can during the summer as during the school year, as a teacher, it is difficult to balance reading with grading. i have tried to knock out some of the more literary books on my TBR list this summer (The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter comes to mind here).

while on vacation, i usually take one or two books, but not a lot as i don't find i have a lot of down time with two kids. maybe when they get older this will be a possibility.

Tasha My reading doesn't change as my life circumstances generally stay the same. :)

Ruthiella | 272 comments I haven't been on a proper vacation in a few years. If I have to fly anywhere, I have to take at least one book with me, 10 seems a little overboard :) Usually my vacations involve visiting friends, so often I read THEIR books while in their homes.

I have found lately that certain books are best read in the winter. In Southern California, where I live, it is so hot in the summer. I recently read The Snow Child (based on your recommendation Simon. Thanks! Loved it!) and I had to read it at night when it was (relatively) cool and quiet. Somehow reading about Alaska in 95 degree sunny weather didn't work for me. I had the same issue last year with Dark Matter which I read in October...but it was an unsually hot October.

Jenni (jennilukee) My reading doesn't change that much over the summer. I tend to leave long books to holidays when there's more time for reading.

I haven't travelled abroad for several years, I spend most of my holidays in our summer cottage. Traveling in my own car I can bring with me an unlimited number of books. In the first week I usually read a book per day, then the pace slows down a bit. In a three week holiday I usually go through about 15 books.

Tasha When I travel, I always carry one actual book and have a couple on *gasp* a Kindle. ;)

Jenni (jennilukee) Tasha, how brave of you to admit to that! ;)

I have a Kindle too, but since I read mostly in Finnish the vast majority of my holiday reads are actual books.

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 25 comments I tend to read a lot more YA lit during the summer.

I know! ;)

But I really do prefer a book over a kindle...really, I do. I like the novelty of the K but I will always prefer the actual book over an ebook, especially if the book has a gorgeous or very cool cover. :)

Louise | 154 comments I mainly read the same types of books all through the year, although the few crime/thrillers I read, I tend to read during Autumn - and I like to read 1 or 2 christmassy books when December comes along.

I bring loads of books on vacations, maybe 10 for a fortnight?, and I buy loads while I'm away - real books! :-) - but my husband has learnt to more or less not comment (and to offer to carry some in his hand luggage).
