Book one of The Dark Duet

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

RECOMMENDED FOR 18+

Here's my review:

Pretty much loved this book. It is dark and emotional...I felt sorry for Olivia. She's never really had anyone on her side. But she tries to stay strong throughout everything that's done to her. Throughout the book you don't know whether to love or hate Caleb. My opinion of him changed so many times...you don't know whether you should love or hate him.

OMG!! I am so going to read this book this month!

Kelcie (kbarbuti) | 8 comments I just joined! I just started reading this book, I have not been able to put it down. I disagree with it being disgusting so far, I think sex trafficking is a huge issue and should not be taken lightly but it is a book and is doing good by getting the word out there to the world. This is written with a storyline and makes it more interesting to read. Which is great for the audience. Not many people will read the newspaper, so to write about a global issue in a fictional way is an excellent idea!

Lol! You sound like me! The whole time I was reading I was wondering if I was supposed to be liking Caleb as much as I did. It was messed up. In my opinion, any book that can bring out that much conflict and emotion is worth your time to read...maybe even a second time.

Kelcie (kbarbuti) | 8 comments Caleb was a slave first. So technically it is equal. Lol

Belkis (bminaya) | 603 comments Wow, started reading this book last night late and I zipped through to like 60% of it. I'm so conflicted and torn over this book. I both hate and pity Caleb. He's both villain and victim. The writing is superb. The intensity is all consuming. The subject matter is very dark and morally questionable. Honestly, I'd seen this book and had read many reviews on it but had never deemed to read it. So being that it was chosen as one of our BOTM I took the plunge. I appreciate the author's efforts in writing such a bold book and applaud the fact that she's done it quite well. This being said, the acts described and depicted still constitute rape. Livvy is an innocent unwilling participant in demeaning and humiliating acts being done to her against her will. I mean, I get that he himself was unjustly thrown into a brutal sadistic nightmarish life and has been victimized but that still does not excuse his behavior towards other innocent human beings like Livvy. He's an adult now and is making choices for these unsuspecting young women. One would think that after surviving all the wrongs that were done to him he would not want that for others. A very distinct and powerful read for me with this one. But wow, very conflicting if not controversial read.
