Just finished
- what an excellent read! Featuring a fresh likeable protagonist, a very original plot, some dark gothic mystery moments and lots of snakes (don't read if you're an ophiophobiac). Liked it even better then S. J. Boltons last book
(which won lots of awards), and will look for more books from the author. Great way to start the new year with an excellent mystery ....

How is it going Geoff? I've read Gone Girl a few months ago & really enjoyed it. I was thinking of reading more of her books in the future
Geoff wrote: "Sharp Objects by Gillian FlynnIt's really good. Dark undercurrents -- where are they leading? I can hardly put it down."
Thanks Geoff, good to know.

I loved it, though you're right, Geoff, it was a bit disturbing, showing the inner workings of some very troubled sick minds. I just received Dark Places from the library and am looking forward to reading that.
A new to me Aussie author, James Laidler's Pulling Down the Stars. This is his second novel, and it's a mystery/thriller:) Good so far:)
currently reading To Die A Stranger
by Jilly PaddockAn intriguing little mystery/crime set in the future. I'm only partially through it at the moment, but Jilly has yet to disappoint. :)
Well I thoroughly enjoyed To Die A Stranger I gave it 4 stars. My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Just received the audio book version of Criminal from the library - it will make my commute to and from work so much more interesting. Has anyone read it and what are your thoughts?
Brenda wrote: "I enjoyed that one Heidi, but not quite as much as the other in the Will Trent series!"Thanks, Brenda :)
Just finished Never Wave Goodbye by Doug Magee and like a parent myself I'm horrified by plot - situation the parents and kids from this book got in. Kidnapping and abduction situation always keep me in on the edge of the chairRight now started Predator by Terri Blackstockand apparently its Christian literature which I usually can't stand, but in this case at least 1/8 part that I read and it is OK and not over do by primitive preaching like usual
Reading Gone Girl
. Two friends who read it had opposing views so really curious to see what it's like. So far...only a few chapters in...I'm really liking it.
Picture Me Dead by Heather Graham - just started recently and not yeat completely catches me in, so can't say my opinion right now. Also almost finished The Big Exit by David Carnoy - it's on wrongly accuses subject.
Yuliya wrote: "Picture Me Dead by Heather Graham - just started recently and not yeat completely catches me in, so can't say my opinion right now. Also almost finished The Big Exit by David Carnoy - it's on wrong..."I love Heather Graham - thanks for alerting me to one I haven't read yet!
I start recalling characters, details and situations from the book Picture Me Dead, I remember now I read it and like it some long time ago. But I don't remember who is a killer!!!! Is it happened to somebody else? You remember some details, but not the main point in crime story - who was a killer?
Yuliya wrote: "I start recalling characters, details and situations from the book Picture Me Dead, I remember now I read it and like it some long time ago. But I don't remember who is a killer!!!! "Happens to me all the time with Agatha Christie's. And also other books at times. You are not alone!
I am currently reading Lights Out
, the second book in the Working Man's Mystery series. Really enjoyed the first one.I have also started A Memory of Light
, but am not rushing it as I skip a lot and don't want to get to the end too fast. Also, in my view, Sanderson is no Robert Jordan when it comes to descriptions and character depth, so it's not as satisfying a read as the original books in the Wheel of Time series were.
Currently reading Snow White Must Die by Nele Neuhaus. I think many people might enjoy this one, it's a German novel about a young man who has served 10years for the murder of two 17 year old girls. Now that he's out you start to see what really happened.
Geoff wrote: "Just finished Hostile Witness by Rebecca Forster (#1 in The Witness Series). Available free for Kindle, with the others in the series just $3.99 each.
It was a great read -- I gave it 4 stars."
I've had that one on my TBR for a very long time Geoff. It has some very varied reviews, from 1 star up..good to see you enjoyed it:)

I'm reading
and listening to
. I just finished listening to
and it was just great! While listening to it I never thought to myself "If this was a book, I could skim through this boring part!" (Oh, come on, we all do it!) Fascinating look at the Inuit culture and a great mystery/thriller, as well! You Aussies can pretend you're cold while you're reading it! I just had to look outside :).
Sounds good Joanne..I've heard some good reports on Snow White Must Die ! I'd love to imagine I'm cold...;)
I am just over half way through
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton it is the first Kate Morton I have read and i am really enjoying it and wondering about the real reason behind the stabbing in the first chapter.
I have that one here Sally...I won it, but I still haven't read it yet. My first Kate Morton as well...
I just finished The Song is You by Megan Abbott I was disappointed I'm afraid... My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Brenda wrote: "I just finished The Song is You by Megan Abbott I was disappointed I'm afraid... My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..."That seems to be the general conscience for that one I'm afraid.
Toby didn't give it a good rating, he would recommend The End of Everything and I would recommend Dare Me
Well I already have Toby's rec on my TBR..it's been there a long time! But not yours though it sounds good. It makes me unsure to read another of hers, even though I've got Queenpin still here to read!
I have both of them too, did you get them from a booktopia sale? I think I got them for about $2 each. Queenpin review are better. but I hear The End of Everything and Dare Me are a different style; more modern
Yes I did! I think there was a recommendation from someone in here with the advert for the sale... I might try one of your modern ones and leave Queenpin for awhile I think.
I just finished book #2 in a series Every Move You Make by Ann SomervilleThey're a series of crime/mystery which is sprinkled with some fantastic fantasy/sci-fi aspects, and M/M themes.
Ann is also an Aussie, so it's always nice support fellow Aussies!!
Geoff wrote: "Finally caught up with a copy of D Is For Deadbeat by Sue Grafton. Now I've read them all from A to V. Hope she makes it to Z!"Well done Geoff. I have read A to O so far & have P to V sitting on the shelf waiting to go
