Really, really enjoying Eight Mile Island
it's typically YA, but I think there's elements of mystery/sci-fi/thriller in there.

Haha!! Good on you:) It's great when you get a book like that, isn't it! The Light Between Oceans did that for me recently:)

Brenda wrote: "I finished In Cold Blood last night, with my review here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..."Just read your review Brenda. So glad you liked it. It's a chilling read but definitely well written and I think the fact that it's based on a true story makes it all the more compelling. So what will you read next?
I have just completed my review for
by Linwood Barclay which was brilliant. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Brenda wrote: "So far so good Michael...it's a bit all over the place, but I'm getting into the rhythm now:)"it does take a while to get in to because of all the people involved in the squad, i hope it works out for you soon brenda.
Brenda wrote: "I'm loving it Toby...I'm half way through now:) Thanks for the rec!!!"Phew! :) may have mentioned already but if youre ever in need of a great 90s crime drama the tv series based on it was exceptional
I'm starting the first Lucifer Box novel, The Vesuvius Club which has been called a cross between Holmes and Bond, Wilde and Lovecraft, and was written by Mark Gatiss who most recently created the wonderful BBC update of the Holmes stories - Sherlock. High pedigree indeed for a book that has so few ratings on GR.
Ok, so I didn't start The Moon Dwellers that's still to come though. I actually started Break Her
which is probably not for the faint hearted. It's pretty graphic and in your face so far, but at this point (40% through) I'm wondering if there's a point to it or if it's just graphic for the sake of being graphic. Like a shock value book...Also currently reading:
The Miracle Inspector which is interesting, but it's kind of labour intensive at the moment.
I do have some recommendations from my Crime and Mystery: The 100 Best Books project this week.I've read two superb and completely different to each other crime books, first Beast In View a psychological thriller from the 50s and followed up with The Glass-sided Ant's Nest a British whodunnit from the late 60s.
Both are very much worth your time.
But now I am reading something completely different, Murakami's book on running - What I Talk about When I Talk about Running - which is obviously not for everyone.
Now you've got me wondering where all those old books are...I'm going to have to hunt for them now!!!
Good review Michael, but sounds like you were a little disappointed...a shame. Enjoy MasterMind ..I hope to get to it soon:)
Brenda wrote: "I finished
last night...brilliant! 5 stars with my review to follow!"Gosh, Brenda you've been speeding through some books lately.
Starting Dead By Morning by Beverly Barton. This it second book I'm reading from trilogy "Dead by...." I liked the first book, but just wished it would be less "women romance literature" parts in these crimes stories. But looks like this author writing in both genres and mixes them in crime stories. (I hate Romance genre, these cheap books with hugging male-female on cover make me almost puke, then I'm browsing books in train station, or my building libraries). But until "crime" part more progressing, and romance scenes are in minimum and I just skipping them, the stories are OK

The Antiquarian
this is a murder/mystery. Artur, a bibliophile and antiquarian is dead after obtaining a manuscript worth murdering for. His son has last words / a premonition regarding his safety from Artur in his last letter ... That's as far as I've gotten but I'm gathering his son (a writer) is going to investigate his adoptive fathers prized manuscript and his murder.

Thanks Brenda :-)
Thanks Brenda :-)
I won a copy of
by Dick Wolf, the creator of Law and Order and just finished it. I thought it was a great thriller and could have been taken right from tomorrow's headlines! I've read a lot of action/thrillers, and it was nice to read a fresh voice with a new character. Review up soon, and I'm giving it a rare (for me) 5 stars.
