Nadia (nadiacee) It was just a question.

message 2102: by [deleted user] (new)

We're just goofin around, Nadia ;)

As many members as there are in this group, there should be a bunch of folks from NJ.

I'm living in Bergen County NJ, though I'm actually from California. Does that count?

Alan Zendell (alanz) | 11 comments Hi Everyone --

After spending more than thirty years as a scientist, aerospace engineer, software consultant, database developer, and government analyst, writing really boring stuff like proposals, technical papers, reports, business letters, and policy memoranda...I quit to start writing what I wanted to write: science fiction.

I've since completed five novels and a number of shorter works, and I even have time to read now. This is a lot more fun.

Michelle (varmint3) | 10 comments There's a chocolate bar I buy sometimes called "Firecracker" which has pop-rocks and chili peppers in dark chocolate - YUM!

PB&J must be made with some variety of red jelly/jam in our house - none of us like grape jelly. I like PB & BACON sometimes - Bacon does go with everything (there's also a chocolate bar near the Firecracker bar that has bacon in it...)

High Fives Alan, good to have you on board. I love solid science fiction, heading over to your profile now to check out your books.

message 2107: by Alan (new)

Alan Zendell (alanz) | 11 comments Thanks, Allan - I'm not sure I have much of a profile yet, but at least I spell Alan properly. I did post descriptions of two of my recently published novels.

message 2108: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Alan :)

Michelle: PB&Bacon? what.

message 2109: by Alan (new)

Alan Zendell (alanz) | 11 comments Thanks, Ala.

message 2110: by Douglas (new)

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments I would debate the proper spelling with you Alan, but I make it a point never to argue with a man whose profile pic reminds me of Alphred Hitchock (he's another favorite of mine). I sent for a sample to get a taste of your work. This has become S.O.P. for me with eBooks; lots of not-so-great stuff out there these days. Wishing you the best of success a "Good Eeevening."

message 2111: by Alan (new)

Alan Zendell (alanz) | 11 comments I hope you enjoy the sample, Allan. That's what they're for, and honest reviews are always welcome.

Some people have said I look like Dick Cheney, Usually they follow up by apologizing for being offensive.

message 2112: by Douglas (new)

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Yes, I should think so. At least Alfred was a likable fellow. My wife tells me I look like Sean Connery, but that's usually right before she asks me to take out the garbage.

message 2113: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin Yesh, but do you shound like him, too?

message 2114: by Douglas (new)

Beatrix (smiley_omnomnom) Hi all! I'm Trixie. (:
I'm obsessed with fantasy, and I like scifi too, so I thought this would be the perfect group for me.
I also have this tendency to type faster than what's processing in my head, so don't be surprised if I kinda mess up my posts or anything. xD

Anyway I want to welcome Trixie... so if this goes somepleace else, I apologize. Going for coffee now.

Welcome!

PS I won't tease you about the occasional typo, my fingers are dyslexic.

message 2133: by Colin (last edited May 19, 2011 07:20AM) (new)

Colin Taber Hi all,

I'm living in Australia, doing a bit of this and that to get by. I have been active now and again in the fantasy community, but thought it was time to broaden my horizons and come here.

Some of you may know me via my book, the fantasy novel The Fall of Ossard. I put up a thread for that in the member author folder.

I've done a bit of travel, write, read and used to have a tree farm. Currently I live in Perth on the west coast, but have recently moved back here (home) after 6 years in Sydney. This time of year, if I'm not working or writing, I'm either sleeping or watching some AFL footy.

This thread is for members to introduce themselves.

message 2141: by Scott (new)

Scott (scimarusti) Hello, everyone... I'm Scott, originally from the Chicago area now living in downstate Illinois. I've just joined Goodreads today, and I'm still finding my way around here, seeking out groups of interest. I used to be an avid reader (Tolkien, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, to name a few) and I'm trying to get back into it and hopefully find some good recommendations here. I also write fiction as a hobby, having self-published a novel and some short stories.

Thanks!

message 2142: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Scott :)

I'm glad you told me about the ice cream bar before I started looking for it--ha ha...

Thanks for the warm welcome!

And what are your thoughts about the "who shot first" debate?

message 2148: by [deleted user] (new)

No debate. Han shot first.

Didn't even give Greedo a fighting chance...

Scott (scimarusti) Ala wrote: "No debate. Han shot first.

I agree. Though, to be fair, Greedo *did* have a blaster leveled at Han's chest... Some might argue self-defense in the case of the wise-cracking smuggler...

Did you ever see the cut scene from The Phantom Menace where young Anakin is tussling in the street with a young Greedo after the big pod race?
