Teena R. | 2 comments Thai. Sadly, the market for SF here is almost non-existant. The Fantasy is thriving but mostly YA (which I loved) or teen paranormal romance (which I liked as long as there's no glittering vampires or vapid heroine who can't do a thing but pining and whining)

When you're on the main discussion page, click "new topic" in the upper right corner of the display. Be sure to select "GoodReads Authors Books" from the 'folder' drop down menu. Then just title it as the name of your book, include some info in the post, and you're all set.

message 1658: by [deleted user] (new)

No problem, glad to help :)

S. Baker (sspencerb) | 11 comments err.. hello? My original post here was in the wrong place so I've moved it to 'Goodreads Author's Books'. Thanks to Ala for pointing out how to do this in a reply to Lori earlier.

The reason for my confusion is because there seems to be a problem in the description box for this group. It says; 'Are you a GoodReads Author of SciFi or Fantasy? Want us to discuss your book? If so suggest it here:' but there's no immediate link. The next link take you to this discussion, hence myself and several others posting bookblurb in the wrong place.

For the sake of clarity, I'll repeat Ala's instructions here;

Hey, thanks Ala. I think I've just made a request through the 'author program' link in the footer to be linked to my author profile but it's very late here in Tokyo and I may have ordered a pizza instead.

message 1662: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, either way, you still win right? :P

Adrianne (adriannebrennan) | 3 comments Hey there! I'm Adrianne, another writer and computer programmer (waves at Charles). I was raised on a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy from the time I was very, very young as my dad is a fan as well.

I'm constantly on the lookout for new authors and books to read, so happy to find this place and get recommendations. :D

Keisha Kellee (keishakellee) | 2 comments Hi All,

I am a 32yr old freelance writer, author and poet. She also writes the blog for www.delectablegoodies.com. I grew up heavily surrounded in the world of Caribbean and African superstitions, being born on the island of Trinidad. While in college, I began taking a deeper look into the history of Caribbean and African folklore and the knowledge has never left me.

By the age of two I earned my nickname scribbles. From the time I could hold a pen I put it to paper and my mother bought me notebooks to mark in. Merging my love of writing and fantasy, I have produced my labors of love in the Ansheniu Series.

Please check it out at let me know what you think. There is a preview available on my website at www.delectablegoodies.com/ansheniuris...
You can also pick up a copy there as well.

I am an avid reader of all books fantasy, from the unknown to the well known. I also love being put on to the next thing and giving my support.

message 1672: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) Hi I'm Chris. I live in Southern California and I'm a big Sci Fi fan. I recently went to CONDOR which is a sci fi convention in San Diego and saw on of my heroes Larry Niven. I look forward to being a part of the group.

message 1673: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Christopher.

Was it a Q&A or just a signing?

message 1674: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) Ala wrote: "Welcome Christopher.

It was a panel discussing the definition of "Hard Science Fiction." CONDOR is a convention. G. Benford was host this year.

message 1675: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds cool. Who else was on it?

message 1676: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) Writers I hadn't heard of, though they seemed to know their stuff: Eytan Kollin, Calvin Johnson, Victoria Waks, Dani Kollin.

message 1677: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) I found the panel of Epublishing the most interesting. Dave Duncan, Richard Dead Starr, Janet Tait, among others. They each had amazing stories of author success stories with epublishing and theorized it will put the traditional model in the way of the Dinosaur. Not sure I agree totally, but they made compelling arguments

message 1678: by [deleted user] (new)

I really need to go to a con one of these days... always miss out on the fun.

message 1679: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) Are you an author?

message 1680: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) There was also a panel of darwinian evolution and how it plays a part in literature. They also talked about memetics, the Richard Dawkins stuff, which was cool.

message 1681: by [deleted user] (new)

Me? Oh hell no. I can't write to save my life :P

I've just never been to any panel discussion like that, and it sounds pretty interesting.

Richard Green | 1 comments Hey.. I was born in 1953, the year that the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" came out. I have two sons that live with me in Atlanta, one is 12 the other is 13. Probably my age has something to do with my favorites; Zelazny, Simak, Heinlein, Farmer and Silverberg. Although I really did enjoy Patrick Rothfuss's book and after a 3 year wait I see that the sequel is coming out this month.

message 1684: by Aloha (new)

Aloha Welcome, all new members! Maybe it's the particular batch of engineering students I was having to hang with. And I won't even mention my lab partner. Maybe he's funny away from the lab. I don't think I've seen him smile. I do know that artists are a whole lot quirkier. They're definitely more interesting to look at with the piercings, the weird hairdos and home made clothes.

I think you'll like it.

Keith Wruck | 2 comments Hi,I'm Keith and I'm a 62 year old super geezer. I've read so many sci-fi and fantasy books that I have a hard time remembering half of them. Of course I have a hard time remembering a lot of things. My daughter turned me on to this club and I really love it. I have been having a problem lately, paying good money for books and discovering that they are not very interesting. I'm hoping this site, and the reviews in it, will help me to make better choices. I am from the New England area. I have a background in Engineering, designing toys and small appliances. I.m semi-retired, moved to Florida in 2004 and now work as a security supervisor for a large gated community.

Hiyas Chris.

No clue about the rat thing, sorry.

I know, I'm useless. :P

message 1689: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Welcome, Christopher. I loved the Stainless Steel Rat. No idea about the ebooks or artwork, though.

Keith, I had the same problem when I came here. Now my problem is too many good books to read. You might look into the book swap here, at Bookmooch.com &/or Paperbackswap.com. I had to or else the budget would have been hurting.

Hello everyone!

I just turned 40, and own a Mexican restaurant in Escondido California, good burritos and Great Margaritas! I love scifi (hard and soft, fantasy, mythology, history, adventure and horror, from my very first book when I was 12: A princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs which is actually a mix of Fantasy/Scifi I became hooked.

I just finished Scalzi's Old man's war and its phenomenal, I hope the next ones are as good.

message 1694: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group, Julian :)

Do...do we get a readers discount if we come to your restaurant? :P

Aloha I used to live in California. They have great Mexican restaurants in CA.

I doubt a group dedicated to him would garner the membership to be active enough, (I made one for Zelazny & it's very quiet.) but if you started a new topic about him here, I'd be interested. He might also be considered a pulp writer & there is a group for that, too.

The other books in the Old Man's War universe are pretty good.

Aloha I have a hard enough time keeping track of all my groups. I barely have enough time to go in and read the posts. I usually hang in the general genre forums and prefer to go in specific folders for particular books or authors. So I would not join a group dedicated to a specific author. The ones that I have become a member of because of friend's invite, I barely visited.
