Korina Lymnioudi | 1 comments Hello, I am very new on goodreads, just signed up so not sure yet about the rules, so excuse me for any of my mistakes please.
I will welcome any kind of suggestions and corrections.

I am from Greece and I am a Medical Doctor. My life was never easy as until 19 years old my life was full of abuse.
At 17 years old have tried to run away from home but they have found me with police's help and the abuse was even more. At 19 I left home in order to study and my life started to get better.
All this abuse since the age of 2 years old, has made me to find refuge in imagination, which has lead me to have the idea of the Magic Book and the Magic Project.
Also the thing that i had so much abuse, made me to want to fight violence and abuse wherever I see it.

So when I first worked as a doctor in a prison and saw how the prisoners are treated, I made denunciations at Strasburg at the department of human rights of prisoners. This was equal to me making denunciations for the Greek ministry of health and ministry of justice. Ofc the "system" has turned against me and they had me to go through a court with the fake accusation that a prisoner has died bc of one pill that I gave to him, while he died from Heroine. Thank God, even If it was all set up and even if I had no money for lawyer and I had to interrogate the witnesses by myself, the result was that I AM INNOCENT (is a big story how the truth shined). You can imagine that this has lead to receive a very bad attitude from the classical medical communities in my country which has become even worse when I started to treat autism WITH BIG SUCCESS through the antidoting of vaccines. Ofc this is by default a proof that autism comes from vaccines, if i can treat the autism by antidoting the vaccines right? So you can imagine the result...
Is like there is an open "war" going on from that classical medical communities which explains how a medical alternative doctor can be very very poor.

You see, they "arranged" not to be able to have patients from my area but working hard on writting articles on Facebook about my work, testimonies from my patients etc helped me to have some patients through skype from other cities and from other countries. Was hard to continue writing my book through this situation because I spend a lot of hours on phone, skype with my patients and even more hours to write continiously articles about my work in order to get people to know me. (No money for proper advertising).

So I tried to post my book as a project in crowdfunding site of Indiegogo.
It is not going well though, so even If I still try for the crowdfunding, I decided to create a website and blog in order to get to know more people and take the courage to write every day even a little in order to finish the book even in so hard and difficult times.
Is the first time that I try to create an author platform.
Reading articles on how to promote the platform it has lead me to goodreads.com
Didnt know about this website till now, and Im happy I found it, I really like it so far!
It feels like I found it for other reason and I will use it for making friends which is much more important!
So, this was the whole story that has lead me here with you guys...
Sending good vibes to you all, and loads of LOVE!

Hi everyone!
My name is Missy and I am from Oklahoma. I've always loved to read, but science-fiction and fantasy are some of my favorite genres. In fact, I really began to love reading after I read the Harry Potter series.
I'm looking forward to chatting about books and making new friends :)

Jack Graham (jackdgraham) | 31 comments Hello all,

Been reading Science Fiction and Fantasy for as long as I have been reading - I like some of the other genres as well, but my first loves are Science Fiction and Fantasy. They are the reason I love to read. Yes, I was one of those kids who read every Xanth novel as it came out.

I can not tell you what the first books I read were, too long ago, but major influences are Heinlein, Herbert, Tolkien, McCaffrey which helps explain why I like books, but love epic worlds. Today - Sanderson.

What I enjoy, almost more than the actually tale itself, is the world created by the author. If the story is set in a world other than the one I wake up in every day, I feel the author has to make it as real as the one I do. And the great authors do. I could go on for hours about this, but I will leave it as, worldbuilding is important, at least to me.

Elizabeth Gehris (lizziesmith) | 3 comments Hi! My name is Elizabeth. I've long been a fan of scifi and fantasy, but- to be perfectly honest- have only recently started to read a lot of fantasy books. I really only watched it through TV and movies. I had read Harry Potter, but other than that, I was just a romance reader. I'm excited about discovering even more about these exciting genres.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 874 comments Hi all. Elizabeth, try the Harry Dresden books. Modern world urban fantasy, action snarky humor. Think you might like it. The first is Storm Front.

message 5660: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Noooo!!! From reading romance to reading sexist snark? Dresden has his charms but UF with a female lead and a romance subplot would be best. :)

message 5661: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I should have said uber-masculine rather than sexist. I've only read the first so I don't know if it's actually sexist. Anyway, Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison... Something like those, maybe?

E.J. Wenstrom | 5 comments Hi All! I'm E.J.

I'm a fantasy fan as well as an author (but I'll spare you that info and put the appropriate deets in the Author folder).

I read pretty widely, but speculative fiction is always my favorite, even across TV, movies and comics. I especially love an unreliable hero and unique, lesser-known fantasy creatures.

My faves (God it's so hard to pick a favorite) include Martian Chronicles, Saga (comic), and Chuck Wendig's Miriam Black series.

message 5666: by Adam (new)

Adam Spencer | 19 comments Hello. I'm Adam. I'm a huge fan of the entire scope of sci-fi and fantasy. I am also an author but I see EJ above me already said the same thing I was going to say on that topic. Though I was going to add what I promise was a mildly hilarious comment about people wanting to be writers but not knowing how to read. Ahem.

It's hard to pick out favorite authors and books but I'lll try.

As far as fantasy I do love me some Jim Butcher. Robert Jordan, Kevin Hearne, and Terry Pratchett are high on my list as well. I've recently enjoyed some others as well like Craig Shaeffer who writes the Daniel Faust series (among other things) and Paul Dale from The Dark Lord's Handbook series. And of course, if you don't mention Tolkien I'm pretty sure there are laws that say you can be hunted down by the group. As long as there's a song, a random plot development that is immediately dropped and some powerful character being incredibly arrogant at terrible moments.

The sci-fi book of the month as I write this is Starship Troopers, which has always been a favorite (I have a theory that Heinlein would dislike the movie carrying his title but still like the movie itself). Straight up sci-fi (especially space based) is a thing of beauty when it's done right. Too many authors to mention there.

I'm a big superhero fan as well. It's not an easy genre to do correctly (he said knowingly). Thomas Ian Healy's a really good one. Jim Bernheimer's another. And I love Richard Roberts "Don't Tell My Parents" series.

Outside of the reading stuff....I love American football (go Cowboys!), I enjoy wrestling (closest thing we have to modern Greek myths and/or superheroes), I watch a little TV, I play video games, and I sometimes shave my eyebrows for cake. Okay, once.

I'm 34, married to an awesome lady, have a wonderful 2 year old daughter, and am servant to two cats and a dog. I live in Vegas. I hate pants.

I...am not sure what to write here. I have a very front and center sense of humor and I am pretty much never serious unless I am required to be. I love terrible jokes. My language is a lot more adult than this post would indicate. I am kind of addicted to tvtropes.com. I hate mayonnaise. I think "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie is the worst song of all time. I once sold a gun to a postal worker. I randomly sing/narrate things I do. My favorite alcoholic drink is champagne mixed with Dr. Pepper. I think Mr. Rogers was the greatest American ever. Ice in your soda in a restaurant is BS.

....I think I'm gonna stop here and just go get in other conversations instead of dropping more random stuff about myself. So..HI!

message 5667: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 874 comments ...okay, not sure where to start. I have read Tolkien so the mobs can stand down (no torches or pitchforks, you know).

I agree about the book Starship Troopers but disagree about the movie. I'm all but sure that I heard the sound of Heinlein spinning in his grave over that movie and I'm really ticked at the fact so many people probably think it reflects the book.

Glad you're around. The cat that owns me sends regards to the cat who owns you.

Christi Smit (ChristiSmit) | 1 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Christi, though I prefer being called Chris. I am from South Africa and a lover of all things science fiction. I am also an author BUT I am here as a fan of the genre not as an author. I am 31 years old, soon to be 32. I spend most of my time writing and doing my day job. Currently in-between reading any books as there are just too many things on my plate at the moment.

My day job consists of managing and hosting gaming servers for a local hosting platform, which fits in with my gaming habits as well seeing as I was a map artist for a development studio many years ago.

I don't know what else to really say here, Except that it is nice to meet everyone and I can't wait to start having in-depth discussions about science fiction. Oh and, never bad mouth Star Wars in front of me, just a big no-no. Other than that I am easy to get a long with, albeit a tad intense sometimes. But my down-to-earth nature makes me a good listener and I understand most opinions.

OK so that felt like I was trying to get a date on a dating site. Let me stop before this goes way too far.

Hello!Hi!

Oh yes? I got suspicious as soon as I saw the ".rus" in the address, but I was on a public library computer so I tried it anyway. Got this:-

Access to the websites listed on this page has been blocked pursuant to orders of the high court.

More information can be found at www.ukispcourtorders.co.uk

And when I looked at the court orders it was obvious that this was believed to be a piracy site.
That probably covers all UK-based computers.
So if you go there (indeed, if you are able to go there!) check your ethical position on the way!

Keoni | 1 comments Hello everybody,
I'm Giovanni a Veterinary student from northern Italy, I'm going to turn 26 this year, and with some luck and hard work I'll also graduate.
My hobbies apart from reading books are videogames, hiking and motorbike rides.
I love reading books (Or i would'nt be here), especially Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Historic books and I've been on goodreads for a couple years already, but I've never used the social component, as I have some good friends who are also book-lovers like me with whom i discuss about everything.

I would love to discuss and comment with you about books, and also discover new ones. Lately my budget for books isn't that great so i have to improvise and read waht my local library has to offer (not much sadly). I think that covers enough of my life :D

Happy to meet you all!

Lauren Garcia (laloga) Hi there! I'm Lauren. I've been called a "voracious reader" ever since I can remember. Stories, particularly speculative fiction, are my life and breath. I'm a soon-to-be published author of my own fantasy, (which I cannot promote here), but am always looking for new recommendations to fill out my "to read" list. :) I love stories with compelling characters who drive the plot. My favorite authors, in no particular order, are:

- Sharon Shinn
- Robin McKinley
- Peter S. Beagle
- Robin Hobb
- Meredith Ann Pierce
...and tons more!

Nice to meet everyone! :)

Stelios Trakas | 1 comments We are Beatrice Ray and Nick Storm (although I usually respond to Stelios…), two good friends from Greece, who share two of the most important and rare gifts in the world: a loving and longtime friendship and the ability to get lost in fantasy worlds and gather thrills, joy and wisdom.

One day, a vague magical world planted its images and messages in our minds and hearts. It called us; it demanded to be given a form. And one day Beatrice told Nick, "Fine! You tell me its story and I will write it!" This is how the creation of the world of Bearth began, more or less. When we are not travelling there, we observe the world, share personal jokes, are optimistic (at least one of us is) and consume large quantities of coffee, water and sangria. We met 18 years ago. Fortunately, the creation of Bearth took much less.

In our separate lives, Nick is a professional actor, a Storyteller and a captivating Dungeon Master (or simply God for his D&D team), while Beatrice, apart from a dedicated D&D player, is a teacher and a mother, the most important job of all.
You can check the first chapter of our book in www.bearthinoblivion.com
Thank you!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Hi, I'm Randy from southern California. I started reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy books in elementary school with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C S Lewis and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I don't think I ever finished either series so someday I'll need to re-read them. Jr High and High School found me reading Leiber, Moorcock, some Conan stories (not sure which author - at the time I didn't know there was more than one), Tolkien, Donaldson, Clarke, Anthony and Feist, probably some others too but that's what I remember when I look back. Found William Gibson and Orson Scott Card in College, Michael Crichton and Philip K Dick right after.

This year so far I've read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (4 stars), Zero History by William Gibson (1 star), Shadow Puppets by Orson Scott Card (2.5 stars), and the entire run of The Walking Dead comic books by Robert Kirkman (5 stars).

I'm currently reading A Storm of Swords by George R R Martin and Ubik by Philip K Dick (re-read). I've found that reading multiple books at the same time keeps me from burning out on reading.

All-time faves in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genres would look like this:

Fantasy books:
1. A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin
2. Stardust by Neil Gaiman
3. The Hobbit by J R R Tolkein
4. Swords and Deviltry by Fritz Leiber
5. The Mis-Enchanted Sword by Lawrence Watt-Evans
(honorable mention - first 3 books in the Alvin the Maker series by Orson Scott Card, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe by C S Lewis)

Sci-Fi books:
1. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
2. Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson
3. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
4. The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick (I could also have gone with PKD's A Scanner Darkly or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep)
5. The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester
(Just missed the cut - Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, Neuromancer by William Gibson, The Space Merchants by Pohl/Kornbluth and you could also throw in Pohl's Gateway)

Looking forward to meeting people and talking about books. All friend requests accepted.

I enjoy long walks on the dunes of mars and releasing Krakens from captivity on the planets of Neptune. I'm also a delusional optimist who's out-of-the-box thinking often leads to my wife saying "where did I find you?" aloud.

The parking lot, for the umpteenth time.

Anyhoo, glad to be here. I've a lover of scifi and fantasy--especially anything involving magic and monsters. Favorite books right now are A Song of Ice and Fire (The first three books anyway) and the Kingkiller Chronicles series.

My mind will be absolutely blown if they release Doors of Stone and The Winds of Winter at the same time. According to goodreads, they already have ratings of 4.4 and 4.3 respectively. Damn time-leaping readers! Bring me back a copy!

I also write whacked out scifi and fantasy stories and books. I won't pimp them here yet, since we just met. At least allow me the chance to buy you a drink first.

My name is Ben. I'm an indie author and fantasy enthusiast. I love books that don't take themselves too seriously like anything by A. Lee Martinez or Terry Pratchett.

Can't wait to get involved with everyone here!

message 5688: by Val (new)

Val I remember in kindergarten bringing home piles of books from the library with every intention of reading them all... except I could hardly read and I had the attention span of a humming bird, so the books usually went untouched. Never-the-less, I loved books even at that early age.

I grew up watching my mother devour book after book, and as much as I loved the idea of books and holding them, it wasn't until sixth grade that I became a bookworm myself. I had read and enjoyed books here and there when I was younger, but when I was 11 my friend gave me a book called Alanna: The First Adventure and that was the beginning of the end (at least according to my husband). I had always been different (aka not popular) and within books I found a resounding and reassuring message, that I was not alone and there were countless others like me. As the internet grew, and places like goodreads popped up this became more obvious, but back when I was 11 the voices of those characters and the wonder of their worlds was everything.

Now, all grown up and a mother myself, my daughter not only sees me devour book after book, but we love reading together. I love sci-fi and fantasy, but in all reality I'll read just about anything I can get lost in.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, I know some people think of this as "cheating", but I spend a lot of my days filing and entering data, which can be hell with my ADHD and listening to books has been an almost perfect alternative to medication. So I'm always up for suggestions on good audiobooks.

Steve Aaron | 7 comments Hey all! I've been a fan of sci fi and fantasy since I was very young. My school library had quite a selection of Andre Norton and I grew up reading such classics as Ordeal in Otherwhere, Forerunner Foray, Citizen of the Galaxy, etc... the first fantasy novel to really capture my imagination was A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin. The last Immortal, by J. O. Jepson was really interesting. I was also quite fond of Piers Anthony's writing: The Apprentice Adept Series; the Magic of Xanth was one of my earliest series to get lost in. Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber were pretty amazing. David Eddings' The Belgariad and the Malorian were just super fun. The Lord of the Rings, Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Books. Other standouts include Barbara Hambly's The Black Dragon, Patricia McKillip's Riddle of Stars Trilogy. Basically all books I bought from the Science Fiction Book Club, which often kept me in my room with the door closed when all my friends were outside running around.
