Kim | 477 comments We were discussing in the thread for the latest podcast just how do people follow S&L? Are you strictly podcast, or YouTube, or only here on GR?

To that end I've put a poll up to try and gauge what everyone does. The poll can be accessed here - http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/69...

For myself although I've come across S&L in the past it was only when the YouTube show was released that I started becoming interested. I've never listened to podcasts before but I started listening to them as well so now I do both.

Michal (michaltheassistantpigkeeper) | 294 comments I stick to the podcasts for the most part.

Agrajag | 56 comments I follow all three. I watch the YouTube show on our TV (via AppleTV), I listen to the podcast on my ancient iPod Nano "phatty" when I'm exercising, and I check GR on my notebook. And I read the books y'all vote for (or Veronica dictates) on my new Nexus 7 tablet. Damn, this takes a lot of technology.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments I only heard about sword and lazer via the youtube shows. I seldom listen to podcasts, since I'm usually either doing something that requires concentration (I can't even listen to music and study - I don't get how people can do that), or either reading or wanting to watch something while I eat (when not out being social, I mean). That said, I got curious about the podcasts, so I try to make time to listen to them too. I like them a lot, and they make writing out kanji more interesting, since I don't really need to pay too much attention to that. :)

Casey | 654 comments I do whatever Tom and Veronica tell me to :)

No but seriously, I listen to the podcast, try and watch the video show when I have time, and also get my fix here on GR.

Thomas (velverin) | 42 comments I came to S&L through the YouTube show, but I also listend to the last two Podcast and check the GR Forums daily.

message 7: by Phil (new)

Phil | 1457 comments You've got too many "onlies" in the poll or not enough mixed choices. I watch the video through Geek and Sundry and read the forums.

message 8: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Bailey (klbailey) | 82 comments I came to S&L through the YouTube show as well, and hadn't heard of the podcast before that, but now I listen to the Podcasts as well, and participate in the forums when I can.

Charles | 248 comments I consume all three! (How come there's no choice for that in the poll? ^_^)

The same here.

Well I didn't want too long a poll plus if you're doing a poll on the GR forum it would be a bit redundant to have YouTube/GR, audio/GR, all 3, because obviously you read the forums or you wouldn't be seeing the poll in the first place :P

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments I use all three as well as the iPhone app!

+1

I started with the youtube show and now I am addicted to forums and the podcast as well :)

message 15: by Rick (new)

Rick Podcast. I've seen the Youtube show, but the nice thing about the podcast is that new episodes just show up in Downcast (my podcatcher) without me needing to remember that the show is up. Yes, I can subscribe in Youtube, but then I need to remember to go to Youtube to see new things... it doesn't come to me. Plus, well, I'm not sure what having video adds to a book discussion show.

message 16: by Leesa (new)

Leesa (leesalogic) | 675 comments I started with the podcast, then from there found the group on Goodreads, then followed over to YouTube.

I love all three formats.

message 17: by Kim (new)

Kim | 477 comments It's only early days for the poll but so far it seems like a majority do both the show and the podcast.

message 18: by Keith (new)

Keith (keithatc) Podcast and Goodreads. Nothing against the video show, but I don't really go to youtube that often, and since all my podcast updates pop up in subscriptions, that's where I go. If there was a S&L video rss feed, I might remember it's there more often.

message 19: by Michael (new)

Michael (the_smoking_gnu) | 178 comments I use the Sword and Laser RSS feed to keep track of the shows. It contains links to podcast and Youtube episodes http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheSwordA...
Going to youtube to check for new episodes is an alien concept to me. All my regular content, podcasts and TV shows, just show up on my computer.
I agree with Rick, the video doesn't add anything for me.

message 20: by Robert (new)

Robert Collins I started with the video podcast, then subscribed to the audio and joined the GR group.

Something to look at while you are listening? I mean, there is nothing wrong with the podcasts, but I like to see who is talking and what they are talking about. Plus, I'm guessing more people watch YouTube videos than listen to podcasts (personally, I have never felt the need to seek out podcasts, and would have been unlikely to come across this were it not for the YouTube show) so it allows the show to reach a wider audience, who then go on to enjoy the podcasts anyway, and post on the forum and all the rest. :)

message 22: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments I have been a member from the very beginning. I love the podcast since I can download it and listen while I'm at work. I have not been able to watch the video show as much as I'd like. I work in an area where I do not have WiFi, cannot stream anything on my work computer, and I am on a capped phone data plan, so I rarely stream over my 3G. Also, there are a lot of times at work where I cannot bring a phone. I've found that when I get home from working crazy hours, the last thing I want to do is spend more time in front of a small screen (though I saw there was a post about using the Roku to get the show, which I have yet to have time to try...).

I try to keep up with the forum during my lunch break and when I get home from work. The large influx of new members, along with their verbosity, has made that tough--especially if I miss a day! ;)

So...I guess for me, it's mostly the audio podcast and the forum, with the video show when I can. But I've loved this group from the beginning. I'm bummed that I feel like I can't participate as much as others, or as much as is provided. But hey, the program I'm working on is almost done, so maybe I'll finally have time to catch up. ;)

I find these days that I have more time to respond to posts that interest me than I do to listen/watch the actual podcast. WE are S&L. :)

To the app store!

message 27: by Sheila Jean (new)

Sheila Jean | 330 comments I started listening to the podcast with the announcement of the video show and caught up with all the episodes available on the app. I now listen to the podcast and _listen_to the video show on my rides to/ from work (stream and play audio through stereo.). I might watch the video too, but not always. I've read along with one novel. I ocassionally read these forums.

Same here.

message 29: by Mike (new)

Mike (mikespencer) | 60 comments I follow all three. I started listening to the podcast a few years ago and I've stuck with that. I was already fairly active on Goodreads when they moved over so that was really convenient (although I don't post as much as I could). I'm having a little trouble keeping up with the video show. I think I'm caught up right now, but I'm usually a little behind.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I mostly watch the youtube videos and come to GR but sometimes I get round to listening to the podcasts as well, in the end, and around the houses I watch, listen, read and write on and in all three.
