Within the Children's section there's usually a range from picture books to middle grade and everything in between. Just because something is in the Children's section doesn't mean it's appropriate for a five year old. Again, I'd site Harry Potter and Percy Jackson as good examples of other books you might find in the children's section that aren't for very young readers. Of course it depends on the library :)

My library has it in the children's section, too, but I think of it more as YA.

I started
while in the car today - but it's something like 15 hours and a dystopian that takes a real commitment to the story - which is good so far. So I'm putting that on hold for now. I may pick it right back up though, since I have to do some serious long-distance driving over the Labor Day Weekend.Right now, I'm listening to
--- which is like eating cotton candy. Also reading these ebooks -
and this in hardcover -
All this actual print is a huge departure for me - and I'm losing sleep! lol!
I finished City of Bones last night. Not sure what I'm reading next, since David and I (anyone else?) are supposed to buddy read Shadow & Bone on Tuesday.
I am reading thrones of glass. I had a hard time getting into it and had put it away. but I've heard so many people go off about it I thought I should give it another go. so far I'm loving it, glad I gave it a second chance.

I just finished
, after numerous technical difficulties that had me tearing my hair out!!! But anyways, finally finished it and I LOVED IT!!! So, so good, one of my favorite books ever! I am having trouble with coherent thoughts at the moment, I just LOVED IT!!!
Started reading
and so far, its good! I like the style and how its put together, very different!

Yay Shadow and Bone! Can't wait to start it tomorrow :)

I've got a couple long term reads going on: The Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath (can only handle a few poems at a time) and Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts (extremely complicated and over 1500 pages long). Aside from that, I'm supposed to do a buddy read for Unwholly by Neal Schusterman this week and another buddy read for Once We Were by Kat Zhang next week.
But I'm worried because both of those are sequels to books which were really slow paced and disappointing for me. And I'm anyway in a reading rut (haven't finished a book in two weeks).
Can anyone recommend a really fast-paced, action-packed, shockingly-engrossing read to kick me into high gear?

Are the ones I'm coming up with off the top of my head...
oh also
or any of the sequels to those. Hopefully that's enough variety for you to pick one!

Wow! Thank you for all the recommendations, Jenny! A few of those I'd never even heard of - The Alchemyst, The Name of the Star, Crusade, A Conspiracy of Alchemists - so thanks for the cool new additions to my absolutely huge TBR pile! Lol.
I've actually got a copy of Unraveling lying around so I definitely need to pick that one up. I've read all the Lorien Legacies books except for the latest one which I'm itching to get my hands on!
I read samples of Legend and Throne of Glass, but they just didn't grab my attention enough for me to want to read them. But on the other hand, I suspect they're the kind of books that could get really addicting and that might be just what I need...

You're welcome! I need to read the Rise of Nine, and now, The Fall of Five since it just came out! I wonder how many books there will be for the Lorien Legacies?

but its not making any sense at all to me at this point! It started off really promising, so we'll see how it comes out!

I have finished Claim Me - J. Kenner which I thought the characters are so intense now with the way Damien and Nikki are learning about each other. It's still in the style of 50 Shades. Now I am going to read Complete Me - J. Kenner and I am listening to .The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend on my phone.
Well
was just kind of a meh read, I gave it 3 stars. It was a cool concept, just not carried out very well.
Also finished
which was a fun read, I gave it 4 stars. It has quite a low rating on Goodreads, and I'm taking that because of the format. It didn't bother me, and I got used to it pretty quickly.
I think
is next up!

! Awesome ending to a book that as otherwise a bit boring for me. But the last 30% was so good it convinced me to read the sequel :)
Now I started
by Barry Lyga, who's an incredible big time author who happens to be a member of this group because he'll be stopping by on September 13th for a Q&A!!!!

Yay to both reads! I agree that the end of the book was way better than the start!

I'm just starting Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi. I was completely enamored by the whole story in the first book so I'm excited to see what this book has to bring to the table.

The second book is even better!' Enjoy :)

Finished The Fall of Five and started Throne of Glass. Then I found out my local book store had a huge sale on, so I went over there and ended up getting The Moon and More and Seraphina. I've been wanting The Moon and More for a long while now since it's the latest book by one of my favorite authors. So that's the one I'm reading now.

How was the Fall of FIve?
How was the Fall of FIve?
It was great! There was one particularly shocking twist that makes me feel like this series is going to end up being a lot more complex than I'd expected. And it was just really very entertaining all throughout - except things did fall apart a little in the last 50 pages.
Had a lovely weekend away interstate and did a lot of reading on the plane. Finished:
which was a beautiful, touching, sinister, love story about a girl who got her tongue cut outNearly finished:
which is an interesting psychological thriller in a contemporary sense - and by an aussie author, yay!Halfway through
which was interesting but starting to get weird so I put it down for a bit

I just thought there were scenes that would be to violent for a five year old. Maybe it wasn't and it was just my imagination making it violent.
