I just thought there were scenes that would be to violent for a five year old. Maybe it wasn't and it was just my imagination making it violent.

Within the Children's section there's usually a range from picture books to middle grade and everything in between. Just because something is in the Children's section doesn't mean it's appropriate for a five year old. Again, I'd site Harry Potter and Percy Jackson as good examples of other books you might find in the children's section that aren't for very young readers. Of course it depends on the library :)

My library has it in the children's section, too, but I think of it more as YA.

Jen (jenwesner) | 1222 comments I started Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead while in the car today - but it's something like 15 hours and a dystopian that takes a real commitment to the story - which is good so far. So I'm putting that on hold for now. I may pick it right back up though, since I have to do some serious long-distance driving over the Labor Day Weekend.

Right now, I'm listening to The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1) by Jenny Han --- which is like eating cotton candy. Also reading these ebooks - The Redemption of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #2) by Jessica Sorensen Stitch (Stitch Trilogy, #1) by Samantha Durante and this in hardcover - The Archived (The Archived, #1) by Victoria Schwab

All this actual print is a huge departure for me - and I'm losing sleep! lol!

I just finished Fire Country (The Country Saga, #1) by David Estes , after numerous technical difficulties that had me tearing my hair out!!! But anyways, finally finished it and I LOVED IT!!! So, so good, one of my favorite books ever! I am having trouble with coherent thoughts at the moment, I just LOVED IT!!!

Started reading World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks and so far, its good! I like the style and how its put together, very different!

message 4412: by Karli (last edited Aug 26, 2013 02:05AM) (new)

Karli (karlig96) I've got a couple long term reads going on: The Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath (can only handle a few poems at a time) and Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts (extremely complicated and over 1500 pages long).

Aside from that, I'm supposed to do a buddy read for Unwholly by Neal Schusterman this week and another buddy read for Once We Were by Kat Zhang next week.

But I'm worried because both of those are sequels to books which were really slow paced and disappointing for me. And I'm anyway in a reading rut (haven't finished a book in two weeks).

Can anyone recommend a really fast-paced, action-packed, shockingly-engrossing read to kick me into high gear?

message 4420: by Karli (last edited Aug 26, 2013 02:22PM) (new)

Karli (karlig96) Wow! Thank you for all the recommendations, Jenny!

A few of those I'd never even heard of - The Alchemyst, The Name of the Star, Crusade, A Conspiracy of Alchemists - so thanks for the cool new additions to my absolutely huge TBR pile! Lol.

I've actually got a copy of Unraveling lying around so I definitely need to pick that one up. I've read all the Lorien Legacies books except for the latest one which I'm itching to get my hands on!

I read samples of Legend and Throne of Glass, but they just didn't grab my attention enough for me to want to read them. But on the other hand, I suspect they're the kind of books that could get really addicting and that might be just what I need...

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have finished Claim Me - J. Kenner which I thought the characters are so intense now with the way Damien and Nikki are learning about each other. It's still in the style of 50 Shades. Now I am going to read Complete Me - J. Kenner and I am listening to .The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend on my phone.

Well Level 2 (The Memory Chronicles, #1) by Lenore Appelhans was just kind of a meh read, I gave it 3 stars. It was a cool concept, just not carried out very well.

Also finished The Twitter Diaries 2 Cities, 1 Friendship, 140 Characters by Georgie Thompson which was a fun read, I gave it 4 stars. It has quite a low rating on Goodreads, and I'm taking that because of the format. It didn't bother me, and I got used to it pretty quickly.

I think Sever (The Chemical Garden, #3) by Lauren DeStefano is next up!

Karli (karlig96) It was great! There was one particularly shocking twist that makes me feel like this series is going to end up being a lot more complex than I'd expected. And it was just really very entertaining all throughout - except things did fall apart a little in the last 50 pages.

Finished: All the Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry which was a beautiful, touching, sinister, love story about a girl who got her tongue cut out

Nearly finished: Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James which is an interesting psychological thriller in a contemporary sense - and by an aussie author, yay!

Halfway through Lightpoints by Peter Kassan which was interesting but starting to get weird so I put it down for a bit
