I think you should consider reading them! In my opinion, the "romance" is not the focus of the series at all. It's more just a normal part of life, as romantic connections and attraction are a normal part of most people's lives. But the twisted and AMAZING plot of the book is centered about a struggle between the oppressed, the oppressors, and some really dark secrets :)

Well said! I didn't like book 1 very much because I didn't like the characters, but things changed so much in books 2 and 3 and now I love them all! So even if you aren't impressed with the first book, I'd recommend reading the second as well.

Agreed! I love the characters, though, too. I love the romance, but agree its not a focal point, although the relationship between them do remind me a bit of Cassandra Clare's books. So I love that factor!

I've loved the story since the beginning, I just get lost in this world!

Yeah, it took me a couple of chapters to really get in to it; before that I was curious, but not really loving it. But by the time I was maybe about a quarter of the way in I was hooked, and I ended up really loving it, and being eager for the rest of the series.

Just finished reading The Islands at the End of the World (Islands at the End of the World, #1) by Austin Aslan I'm having trouble deciding on this book. On the one hand, I flew through it. It was immensely entertaining, and reminded me of Ashfall by Mike Mullin in a lot of ways. I also loved that it was a dad and his teenage daughter trying to survive, and there was no romance going on at all.

My issue was with the ending a bit. Things got a bit too incredible to believe for me...although it was an original, unique idea, and could happen...but a lot of it seemed too convenient, especially with the MC, her grandfather, and the Sheriff. If you read it, you'll see what I mean.

But for entertainment value, I do think it deserves 4 stars, despite some of these issues! Or at least a 3.5 :)
