Heidi | 2372 comments Karen are you listening to the Monstrumologist or reading it?? The audiobook is excellent and the only way I "read" the series. It improves I swear! I was lost for about the entire first half. Keep with it!

Heidi | 2372 comments I am reading Reading Lolita in Tehran Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi (thanks to Jenny) and listening to Winger Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith . I am loving Winger so far but as it takes place in the mind of a horny 14 year old male I am about ready to get out of his thoughts soon! hahaha

I finished reading The Vault of Dreamers (The Vault of Dreamers, #1) by Caragh M. O'Brien and although it was different, I really liked it! The ending was majorly creepy!

Now reading Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith for Heidi's group!

Hmmmmm, I'm really not sure on this one...I really thought you'd love it right away like I did, so now I'm confused as to what advice to give you LOL! Because I'm so obsessed with this series, in good conscious I have to suggest reading at least a little further, perhaps try to get to the halfway point? If you're not hooked by then, you probably never will be :(

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments I just started Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith today, and it's really good!
I saw Jenny was reading it, and I happened to be at the school library, and I happened to see Winger as the featured on the shelf, and I happened to pick it up and start reading it.
I have so many other things to read, too, so it's frustrating!!!
Oh, whatever. Reading shouldn't have to follow a schedule anyway.

Its very different...it feels to me a little bit like gothic horror, with a little satire thrown in. It makes me think of The Island of Dr. Moreau, or Jekyll and Hyde, and in some ways, it also reminds me of the movie The Karate Kid. But much darker! That is one of my fave movies of all time!

For me, it wasn't even about the monsters, although that gives the series most of the suspense and entertainment value. Its about Will Henry trying to find his way with this eccentric man to guide him (who isn't much of a guide!)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I need to pick the Monstrumologist up again at one point. It scared the living heck out of me when I first tried to read it (of course I started it in the middle of a thunder storm, in the middle of the night. With all but my flashlight to read by. NOT MY SMARTEST READING SITUATION!) I still got my paperback though, it just needs to get read. XD;

I really like it so far. A bit superficial, but I guess that's to be expected of a boy that age. (I would know!)
Great main character, Ryan is the best part of the book.

Good to know, Heidi! Maybe I just haven't been in the right mood. I've been really stressed and crazy busy and haven't had much of an attention span the past few days. I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel so can concentrate more now! :)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments My audio copy of Pathfinder #6—Rise of the Runelords Chapter 6: "Spires of Xin-Shalast" arrived today, and I couldn't resist reading it (I've been waiting two months for it to be released). It was well worth the wait!

Now I'll be getting back to reading The Last Orphans, which I'm 66% of the way through.

I've got a whole list of books to read after I'm done with The Last Orphans, because I agreed to do reviews for some people, plus I have my copy of Burn to read among those ("among" because some I promised to read and review before Burn was out, others it was already out, so I counted it among the books I said I had to read before I was free to read and review others).

Here's my reading list:

The Last Orphans
Where's Lolly?
London Belongs to the Alchemist
Burn
Astro's Adventures: The Great Escape
Astro's Adventures. the Golden Treasure
Astro's Adventures: Rampaging Rats
Astro's Adventures: Major Dakota's Ghost

Those should keep me busy for a week or so, LOL!

I'm about 42% in The Monstrumologist (The Monstrumologist, #1) by Rick Yancey and it's much better now so I think I just had no attention span earlier. I just finished the part of the old captain and the story of the ship.

This is really dark and scary. Wow! I hope I don't have nightmares! ;)

Heard on the grapevine that the sixth book won't be out this year after all :( but on the upside, it'll give me the chance to work through some other books on my TBR list.

Rebecca McCray (RebPai) | 195 comments I just finished The Cactus Killer by Jeremy Croston and plan to read Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth next.

Cactus Killer is an action-packed tale with a twist. The vampires and werewolves are the good guys. A "daemon" hunting killer is after their people and the two main characters, Liz (vampire) and Vic (werewolf) have to stop him. Definitely a fresh perspective and I really like the characters.

W.J. Lennox | 100 comments Yamile - I'd read the first 3 books in the GOT series before I started watching it on TV, while my hubby did it the other way around. I'd put off because I thought I'd spend most of my time hiding behind a cushion like a big girl's blouse, lol! I'm not good with blood and gore, hence horror's definitely not my thing! But curiosity got the better of me in the end, and I started watching the repeats until I'd caught up with Season 4.

I have to admit I did a lot of complaining at the time about the scenes that weren't even in the book, the bits they'd cut out or where they'd messed about with the timeline. Also, some characters are never quite how you imagine them from the books. But when it comes down to it, if it had stayed completely true to the books, the series would probably run on for years to come and maybe wouldn't have the same entertainment value. The TV series is epic in its own way, but I still prefer the detail and world building in the books.

I'm still hiding behind my cushion, though - Wendy :)
