Will do! It got pretty low ratings, but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it because I almost always enjoy Koontz :)

Cindee, I'm rereading The Giver (The Giver #1) by Lois Lowry and plan to read Gathering Blue (The Giver #2) by Lois Lowry Messenger (The Giver #3) by Lois Lowry and then Son (The Giver #4) by Lois Lowry , one right after the other. It's so cool they have an omnibus out now.

That's what I love about book to movie adaptations: they get more people, even us regular readers, to read/reread/buy the books. Even if the movie isn't great, more kids out there will read The Giver now than they would have sans movie.

That's pretty much how I felt when I read them, JP. I plan on reading all 4 this time around so I can see if I feel the same way since I have now already read Son (The Giver #4) by Lois Lowry which kind of tied them all together (if I remember right).

message 8680: by Cindee (new)

Cindee | 331 comments I finished The Giver, and loved it! Started into Gathering Blue, the thing I hate about this already is it doesnt leave off where book one did. Already its a different world and a different character, which means its its own book, not part of a series (imo). As I read what book three is about its again a new world and new character, im only hoping by fourth the book Sons, it will join the three books together. If im gonna fall in love with characters I want to know what happenend to them, that they are given some sort of ending.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments I'm currently reading Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and loving it!! Definitely a Colleen Hoover fan! I'm also reading an ARC I won on GR of The Good Girl by Mary Kubica ! The Good Girl is very good so far and I think will be a popular book soon!

I finished my reread of The Giver (The Giver #1) by Lois Lowry last night and immediately started a reread of Gathering Blue (The Giver #2) by Lois Lowry . I wanted to finish The Giver before seeing the movie tonight! I really enjoyed it and especially loved all the stars in the movie. Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, even Taylor Swift.

Cindee | 331 comments karen im reading gathering blue right now too, im actually loving it. like I mentioned in my previous rant, im not always a fan of a change in characters in a series. in the movie the giver, is it all four books combined into one movie, or is it strictly just the first book?

It's strictly the first book, Cindee.

It took me until the 4th one, when the books got really long.

I read up to book 3 of the Vampire Academy series. I wouldn't say I hated them or anything, they were sort of just okay for me. I don't really think they get better though. I did hear that the spin off series that came after Vampire Academy was much better but since I didn't get through this series I never picked them up.

Aw, bummer. Yeah, I didn't think the book was anything special, but it was solid enough for me to say "I liked it." At least good enough to get me to go on to book 2. Three or four people told me that it doesn't reach its peak until book 4.

It does get really good...the 4th book is REALLY good! The first few books feel a little juvenile...maybe because its in a school and its a lot of social teen drama? I thought things got better with the 3rd book,we get to see more of the world building and "politics" of this society...then it just builds and builds from there! LOVED the last 3 books in that series! I still need to read the spin off series too.
