Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments Alison, you'll love it.
Percy Jackson is one of the best fictional characters ever penned by an author. No joke.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments Alison wrote: "@daniel, OK I am super excited to read PJ now! seriously! if u love it I'm sure I will too"

You'll definitely love it. My only wish is that the movies would've followed the books more and had a run closer to how Harry Potter did.
Don't get me wrong, I really liked the movies, but would've really loved 5(or 6 following the last book = 2 movies trend) coming out over 6 or 7 years.

message 7612: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments Oh, I hated the first Percy Jackson movie! I couldn't even bring myself to watch the second one. (Although the reason I actually read this series is because I first saw the movie trailer and thought the book sounded good, so, ironically, thanks to the movie, I discovered the books lol) There was just so much wrong with it I couldn't focus on what was right!

message 7613: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I thought the second was better than the first, but if you didn't like the first I couldn't in good faith say I think you'd like it haha.

I finished The Star Dwellers (The Dwellers, #2) by David Estes and enjoyed the reread :)

Started reading Great by Sara Benincasa and also Alienated (Alienated, #1) by Melissa Landers for a read-a-long with another group. Great is really good so far, not sure what to think of Alienated yet.

Finished reading Great by Sara Benincasa last night and I LOVED it! its a modern day retelling of the Great Gatsby with teenagers. It loosely followed the same story line, but the ending was different. Actually, though, the ending was the weakest part of the book IMO. But I was totally absorbed, great writing and a quick read!

Today starting I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

message 7623: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments Loved I Am The Messenger! It was excellent on audiobook too!

message 7624: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenwesner) | 1222 comments I'm not sure if I'm in some kind of slump or not. Maybe it's just too many things at once and I'm not thrilled about any of them?
Currently listening to Dark Eden by Chris Beckett but I don't love it - I'd like to DNF it but not going to because a BookTuber friend recommended it. Meh.

In print (as in actual books ) I'm also reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley slowly at night, a couple of chapters at a time and I'm halfway thru it. Meh.
Also reading Angel Eyes (Angel Eyes, #1) by Shannon Dittemore but don't feel like I can concentrate on it, even tho it's fairly good. And reading The Revealed by Jessica Hickam on my iPad (it's an ARC) and I really like it but keep having to put it down, which is frustrating.

And I'm doing a buddy read of Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson with another BookTube friend. And it's good - I've started reading that in print. Although gah - get in line, Wintergirls! I need to have that done by June 14, and then there's another ARC I need to finish before June 17.

Bleah. It's like this great buffet of delicious food and all I want is junk. I feel like stuffing myself full of NA contemporary until I'm ready to throw up.

I just need something that is really good. I want to get to Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky, #3) by Veronica Rossi but it's been awhile since I read the previous two books and I don't want to re-read them. I also have these that I want to get to relatively soon -
After the End (After the End, #1) by Amy Plum Acid by Emma Pass Broken by C.J. Lyons Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey Halo (Halo, #1) by Alexandra Adornetto Landry Park (Landry Park, #1) by Bethany Hagen Revived by Cat Patrick Skylark (Skylark, #1) by Meagan Spooner What's Left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles, #1) by Kat Zhang When We Wake (When We Wake, #1) by Karen Healey The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss

Ugh. Too many choices. Anyone have any ideas on what next?

message 7625: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Broad (katelynb) @Jen- I loved Frankenstein and Wintergirls! :) I have the same problem with Into The Still Blue, it just stares at me from my bookshelf but I don't really remember what happened in the first two books.

I really like Frankenstein as well - it's nothing like the movies. Victor Frankenstein is a real piece of work and that poor monster! I'm only about halfway thru but I'm already biased. At this point I think Victor only deserves what he's getting. He's a cowardly, spoiled, self-indulgent idiot that needs to get over himself and man up.

Okay, Into the Still Blue is AWESOME! I had actually kind of forgotten, too, but try reading it--it came back to me after about 50 pages. The way the book starts, its easy to get back into the world.

Other than thatI am reading Cruel Beauty right now, and I'm thinking with your current mood, Jen, you might want to skip it for now...unless you just want to listen to a really cool narrator, she has an awesome voice! I think I'm enjoying this more as audio than I would as print.

Out of the rest of those, I've read Halo, which I really liked. I've read the whole trilogy, and while the first two books were fun and enjoyable, the last book kind of disappointed me. It wasn't bad, but just not great. You know.

I also read What's Left of Me, but that might be a little heavy for you right now...I loved it, and the sequel too :)
