Anna Both the movie and the books had its ups and down. If the book didn't exist, I think the movie is good. But with the book? Not that grand.

message 152: by Maud (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maud I watched the movie before reading the book and I thought that it was a nice entertaining movie. After reading the books I do think that the books are better and compared to them the movie sucks. But I prefer to see them as two totally different stories that are not related because the movie is better when I think about it that way :)

Brom wasn't bad...actually, i thought murtaugh was Emo, i pictured him a little diferently, but Brom was OK

message 154: by [deleted user] (new)

Brom wasnt bad. True. But arya was SO not a ginger

Barely Breathing Banana I KNOW!! when i saw Arya, I was like WHAT??!!!? I died right there in my living room!

message 156: by Sarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sarah There is a reason they never did any of the other books. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration but the biggest similarity between the book and movie is the title.

Barely Breathing Banana to be honest, even if they did a second movie, i wouldnt bother watching it (actually i would, but thats not the point....)

Rebecca May Stormmie wrote: "I detest the movie. The only character properly portrayed was Murtagh. It's irritating and depressing."

I actually do like the movie (not compared to the books, of course), but I totally agree with the comment about Murtagh, loved him. Could have been a little deeper though.

Rebecca May Does anyone else think there should be a massive petition for a re- making of the movie?
They should keep some of the actors, like Murtagh and Durza and Brom, but scrap the rest.

Barely Breathing Banana definatley!! (except, they gotta get a new Durza too, i didnt like him much...) the Razaac were the worst though!

Rebecca May Annabanana wrote: "definatley!! (except, they gotta get a new Durza too, i didnt like him much...) the Razaac were the worst though!"

Yes, I hated the Ra'zac and Arya. Not sure if I agree about Durza - true, there maybe would be a better Durza, but there was something about this one.....
Maybe he would be better in a remake of the movie?

Does anyone think that in a remake they should use Patrick Doyle as the composer again? I loved his music in this movie, but maybe that's just me.

Barely Breathing Banana i havent payed much attention to the composer of eragon, but what do you think of Howard Shore? the LOTR composer, I LOVED his peices!

Rebecca May I love Howard Shores Lord of the Rings pieces, I watch Lord of the Rings all the time and everything about it is brilliant :). Haven't listened to any other Howard Shore stuff. You really should look into Patrick Doyle though, apart from the awesome music in Eragon he did the score for Sense and Sensibility 1995, Nanny McPhee and some Harry Potter films.

Barely Breathing Banana Yeah, Shore's great, I especially loved his 'concerning hobbits' i mastered it on the piano, and im trying to get it down on the flute (i wish i had a violen to try it out on that too) Ill definatley check Doyle out, he sounds pretty awesome ;)

Rebecca May Annabanana wrote: "Yeah, Shore's great, I especially loved his 'concerning hobbits' i mastered it on the piano, and im trying to get it down on the flute (i wish i had a violen to try it out on that too) Ill definatl..."

Totally agree, Shores music is great - and though I love Concerning Hobbits I think a lot of his music is just as good. I have all the sheet music for Lord of the Rings I just haven't had time to start playing it yet, but I really want to. Incidentally i'm playing a Patrick Doyle piece from Sense and Sensibility at the moment. :) Yes, he is pretty awesome :D

Barely Breathing Banana ahh, im listening to LP but once its done, ill see his peices, Also ,Sense and Sensibility is that book by Jane austen right?

message 167: by Tal (new)

Tal Boldo As an MG/YA fantasy writer, I think of the Eragon movie as the ultimate let-down. I remember J.K. Rowling being super nervous before the premier of the first Harry Potter. I can only imagine how Paolini felt before... and after.

Barely Breathing Banana LOL! bit harsh, but i agree completley. I dont know what it is with the americans, but every book they make into a movie turns out to be a disaster! look at percy jackson for instance, it was horrible! worse than eragon (if possible) meanwhile harry potter turned out fine, and it was filmed in england. pattern anyone?

Natalie my brother hated it so much he will not let me watch it

message 170: by Jared (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jared The movie put me off reading the books... Maybe i should give them a shot??
Eragon seems like another harry potter way to goody goody always doing the right thing for my taste.

Rebecca May Annabanana wrote: "ahh, im listening to LP but once its done, ill see his peices, Also ,Sense and Sensibility is that book by Jane austen right?"

Yeah, Sense and Sensibility was Jane Austen's first book I think. But if you want to watch the movie of it - do watch the 1995 version, I love it!

Oh, don't let the movie put you off the books! The books are brilliant! (if a little slow at times).

I still think that the movie was all right, but truly, it is nothing compared to the books!

And by the way, Eragon doesn't come off as a goody-goody in the books either, I know the movie made him seem a bit that way - not that I agree that Harry is a complete goody-goody either. :)

message 173: by Jared (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jared Oh come on!! Harry is such a goody goody, two shoes, princess, running around freeing all the bad guys so they can come try again in the next book, then the next book, then the next.... I love the books don't get me wrong but.. anyway! i will give eragon a read then!

Rebecca May Jared wrote: "Oh come on!! Harry is such a goody goody, two shoes, princess, running around freeing all the bad guys so they can come try again in the next book, then the next book, then the next.... I love the ..."

I'm glad you're going to give Eragon a try. :) And yes, I admit, Harry does have a bit of a "saving people thing" - but he ain't perfect - remember all the anger management issues he had in fifth year?

Anyway...... yeah, I love the books too :) .

message 175: by Jared (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jared Becca you are right! the anger problems were by far my favorite years, prisoner he was badass in talking about killing and such way more interesting harry! but the fith year was because of voldy! cant give harry to much credit for his hissy fits during that time but still enjoyable! As much as i don't like harry, i like him, he's respectable! and a great character, just not what i am in the mood for at the moment lol.. Wouldn't want you to think I'm a potter hater, all this talk about a differnt book and all my fault! sorry everyone!! Will start eragon after i'm done my current series ! i hope its good!

Rebecca May Jared wrote: "Becca you are right! the anger problems were by far my favorite years, prisoner he was badass in talking about killing and such way more interesting harry! but the fith year was because of voldy! c..."

:D Harry is so funny when he's angry - but Malfoy is funnier as the amazing bouncing ferret. :D

Anyway, you don't have to worry, the Eragon series is brilliant, and at least you don't have to wait for ages for Inheritance to come out. :)

And yeah, sorry everyone for the HP discussion!

message 177: by Jared (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jared The bouncing farret! Great scene! i liked Malfoy better then most of them! I forgot about some awsome moments in potter. Aahah you are right i hate waiting ages!!the series i am on the next book is coming out in jaunyary so its not to bad! but i'm not close to being done with it! p.s cool pic

Rebecca May Jared wrote: "The bouncing farret! Great scene! i liked Malfoy better then most of them! I forgot about some awsome moments in potter. Aahah you are right i hate waiting ages!!the series i am on the next book is..."

Cheree I hated the movie but Murtagh was absolutely hot in it. :'3

I would say that this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. I enjoyed watching it for all the wrong reasons.

Rebecca May Uncommon Sellsword wrote: "I would say that this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. I enjoyed watching it for all the wrong reasons."

Haha, it's a guilty pleasure of mine too - my reasons are that for some reason I love watching Durza in this film, and that despite knowing it's crap compared to the books I still love it.

What are your reasons, if you don't mind my asking?

And did anyone else cringe at that line - "Into the sky, to win or die"? Because I certainly did.

I liked the cheesiness overall. I didn't really take the movie seriously and I tend not too with a movie (like Eragon) with so much flaws.

Yeah, me too - that line was just a little too cheesy for me :D

message 185: by Mark (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mark Tilchen Poor job on the movie for a great book. The book did a great job building the characters. In the movie one had little clue who these people were. Maybe some smart director will do a remake a do it justice as they did with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Rebecca May Cory wrote: "I agree. If my book was considered for a movie, I would be incredibly strict on correct characters and the stroy line. The ending of the movie wasn't even right for christ's sake!"

Does anyone know if the movie-makers consulted Paolini before they made the movie! Because if I was Paolini I would so not agree to what they did in the movie!

Rebecca May Cory wrote: "If I had to guess, he was still busy with the books and doing signings and book meets globally, so he probably just sold the contract without any thought."

Sucks for him then :(

Rebecca May Cory wrote: "Indeed. I can only imagine what it would be like for someone to make a movie from my series. It must take a lot of money to make someone not care what they do with your creation. Many writers like ..."

I totally agree. They did destroy the movie in terms of the book, but I still think it was a relatively good movie if you ignore the books. Oh well - anyone think we should do a petition for a remake?

Rebecca May Cory wrote: "Sorry to be the only replier, but there is a petition you can search on google that I have already signed. I believe the count of petitioners was in the tens of thousands."

Haha that's OK - if you know the link for the petition can you send it to me? I still there should be like an official GoodReads petition made or something.

AGREED!!!! Is there anything they didn't mess up in the movie? jeez....
I wish Goodreads could do petitions...

Epohzamboneeneez I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT STAND THIS MOVIE. MY BRO MADE ME WATCH IT SOME MANY TIMES THAT I NOW HATE IT! when i say so many times i mean once, coz that was enough to make me hate it.

Kill the Spare "Anybody body else HATE the movie?" Darling, everybody and their brother hates the movie..

sameara OH MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE D:
It was a DISGRACE. I'd went all happily to the cinema with my sister expecting it to be up to my expectations, and it turned out to miss out crucial and great parts and end it without even Inheritance being out? Er
The ending was by farrr the worse bit.

sameara Arya Svit-kona wrote: "Teckha wrote: "The books and the movie were terrible. Absolutely rubbish...it isn't the movie makers fault though, Paolini did a terrible job writing the books..."

Are you kidding? Inheritance was the worse book in the whole cycle! He didn't explain anything properly, it was rushed, he forgot things! Brisingr was the best one in my opinion..

message 196: by Connor (new) - rated it 3 stars

Connor I HATED THE MOVIE IT WAS TO HARD TO FOLLOW AND TO DARK TO SEE. IT SUCKED.

Barely Breathing Banana I liked Brisingr and Eldest equally, but if i had to pick, I'd say Brisingr, Eldest was a little predictable

message 198: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol the movie did suck and my favorite book was probably brisinger

message 199: by Wendy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Wendy With all the great producers out there and the technology, the first Eragon Movie was 'awful' didn't do the story or the 'writer' justice. I'm hoping the B movie will be remade now that his series is complete and a GREAT PRODUCER picks up on such a great writer's story and do it justice ... better collaboration and cinemtography

message 200: by Betty (new) - rated it 5 stars
