Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I really liked River Road. I am currently listening to We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Change Their Lives Forever We Bought a Zoo The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Change Their Lives Forever by Benjamin Mee . It is really different than the movie. First of all his wife was alive when they bought the zoo, also it was a family (his mom and all his brothers and sisters.

One of the interesting things was that they had a gay Tapir (a type of pig). They put him with a female that was in heat and he left her and jumped her son. They also said that a zoo in Oslo documented 1500 different species that had homosexual animals. I also checked it out on the internet and it backed them up. I don't know what I think about it, but I found that VERY interesting.

I just finished this book. Eh. I've read a lot of her books, and this was too formulaic for me. I really like some of her other (earlier) books though. What did you think?

I liked the book because it wasn't her normal paranormal romances. I also liked it because I didn't have to chase after the ending by reading it from one of her other pseudonyms. In other words, I don't like her PNR. The book wasn't a really terrific read, but it was ok.

message 655: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments River Road was really good because it wasn't her typical PNR. On the other hand, it wasn't memorable enough that I would ever recommend it to anyone. Frankly, I am not a super big fan of JAK. If I am looking for a book to read and she has a new one available at the library I may pick it up, but even at that there is noting saying I am going to read her book. I usually pick up about 7 or 8 books at a time. Some are brought back without ever reading it. Her books could very easily be the ones I bring back.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I picked up an audio called Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His GirlWesley the owl
Wesley the Owl The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl by Stacey O'Brien .

This story was so terrific I went out and bought two of the books..NEW. I NEVER buy books new. I can't afford it and to buy two (one for me and one for a present) is unheard of. This is a true story.

This biologist was asked to take home a raise a 4 day old barn owl. He had some nerve damage and would never be able to survive in the wild. Stacy, the author and biologist, takes you from infancy to full maturity when Wesley "mates" with Stacy and tries to force a mouse down her throat, because that is what is necessary for survival. It's funny, touching and the best love story I have read in a long time. I highly recommend it. Out of 5 stars I give it 11 stars or owls or what-have-you.

I have gotten to the point, unless a book is absolutely fantastic I don't usually buy any book. I find I run out of space to hold all the books I like. If I do buy, 99.9% of the time I buy used. If I buy new I this book is on my top 10 list.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Cherry-Ann wrote: "Janeiowa, how did you get the link to your book embedded like that?"

Go to the page you want, for instance Jane was looking at the page in GR that gives you a synopsis of that book. Then at the very top of the page where it says https://.... copy that and paste it in you comment box. I hope I answered that succinctly enough. I can't tell you how many times I have had to ask something like that.

message 664: by Janeiowa (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I don't do anything complicated. I just click the add book/author link above the comment block. I put in my book title and click on the one found, then make sure link is dotted and ADD and then repeat and dot the cover choice. Then both link and cover appear here.

Nancy | 69 comments Just finished Dark Witch by Nora Roberts. It is just a three star read for me. The romance is a bit lacklustre, and the voices of all the characters, esp the guys, seem to be the same. I'm going to read the next book in the series because I've borrowed both books from the library. Thank god I did not have to buy them.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Just read , A Long Time Gone-Karin White
I have loved all of her books until this one and was quite surprised that one of the main characters is a rebellious, snotty teenager-my least fav character.

Written in my Hearts Own Blood-Diana Gabaldon is going to be next as soon as I finish this one,I hope I can get it finished,I`ve been waiting to hear about the Hero but he is taking a big back seat to the teen and stepmom.

Did you read or listen to Dark Witch? I made the mistake of listening to it and the narrator would sound like a very old woman, about 110 or older. That coupled with the lackluster romance and, your right- the male voices sound all the same, really makes for a poor read. I Shadow Spell a lot better. Again I listened to the audio and the narrator was from Ireland so the voices sound better.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments I`m reading Diana Gabaldon`s new book, just came out a few dys ago.I like to read laying down so I can maybe fall asleep for a nap but you wouldn`t want this book to hit you anywhere .like all of them it`s a H.C.and way o heavy to hold laying down.I don`t get a book read real fast and am only on the first few pages and seeing a little of Jamie-can`t wait till he gets to Clare after what Lord John-the idiot-told him. That should be really good reading.
I don`t know why I read her Outlanders these last ones especially are all war and I hate that.
SPOILER !!!!!!!!!
Sorry-can`t remember how to hide it.

Anyway George Washington meets him and makeshim a Northern General, probably saving his and his faqilies lives.
Is anyone else reading this?

I have the book and kind of skipped the Jaime and Claire part, because I remember in Echo in the Bones. Jem had been kidnapped and Roger and Brianna believed that he was brought back in time by Rob Cameron. Roger and his friend, William Buccleigh, decide they are going to the stones and going to find Jem. Jem, however, is locked in the hydroelectrical tunnel under the Loch Errochty dam. (I am not giving anything away, this was in Echo in the Bone.)

Now that I have finished that part of the book, now I am going back to the beginning to read it all.

I love Suzanne Brockman. Currently, I am reading Headed for Trouble (Troubleshooters #16.5) by Suzanne Brockmann by S.B. It is a bunch of short stories by our favorite troubleshooters. Like one Sam Starrett takes an assignment in Italy setting up security for a corporate honcho wedding. The assignment sounded simple, but it turns into a nightmare, especially when 4 bridesmaids (daughters of either the bride or groom) start coming on to Sam. He calls Alyssa and tells her he really needs her, because the bridesmaids from Hell are turning this wedding into a Girls Gone Wild wedding. Alyssa sends Jules so in front of the girls Jules romantically hugs Sam and says, "Hey Sweetie, rumor has it that you need some TLC."

Sam being super antigay says, "It's good to see you." then gruffly adds, "Sweetie."

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments I am a little more than half way on WIMOB.I have stared calling it Hide and Seek,it seems that all the characters get introduced and then promptly disappear .
It seems to me the whole book has been chasing these guys and asking everyone they see if they have seen them
I am enjoying it tho because I read very little of Bones and am now catching up on all the old friends in it.And since their is less fighting it seems like easier and quicker reading for me.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments I read Headed for Trouble Headed for Trouble (Troubleshooters #16.5) by Suzanne Brockmann a few months ago and really enjoyed it. The last short story was a set up for the futuristic series. I have the first book, Born To Darkness (Fighting Destiny, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann but haven't read it yet.

message 682: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I read Born to Darkness and actually it was pretty good, but the next in the series has been so far in coming that I really don't remember anything about it except the reason he goes to work for the company is because of his dishonorable discharge from the military. I will definitely have to read the last story in Headed for Trouble.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I am in a mess. I am listening to two audios. One in my car Killing Time by Linda Howard and one at home. Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb . I am also finishing up reading I Am Malala The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai and Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8) by Diana Gabaldon . I really got to quit doing those things. It is hard to follow the story lines

message 692: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments I loved Tangled. It was one of the funniest I have read in a long time. A romance with a chick lit edge. Lots of sex scenes.

message 693: by Janeiowa (last edited Jun 26, 2014 07:53PM) (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I enjoyed Slow Dance. It was originally pub. in 1990, so no cell phones for everyone, etc. That didn't bother me in this novel. I got involved in the storyline and characters, and that doesn't always happen for me. I value the authors when they're able to pull me in.

I'm not the person you asked, but I'd like to comment on ereaders. I never thought I'd change from paper, but I'm a 100% convert. I have two nooks, but I now use my IPAD exclusively because I can have both Kindle and Nook books on it. I can buy books from my chair here in rural Iowa where I'm not near a bookstore. I can carry 900 of them with me in my purse. My husband has had medical appts this week, and I can get on the internet with the free wifi in waiting rooms and read here, or pull up a book to read and adjust the size of the font to what is comfortable to read.

message 694: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments Jennifer Greene is one of my favorite authors. She has written many books so u have lots of good reading ahead. I have read at least 20...There have been a few "clunkers" but not many :)!
I rated the Pettersen book 4.5 stars. It will make you love horses!
[I have been neutral about them up to this point :)]
I would read more books by Bev P.

message 695: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Slow Dance and Tangled does sound really good, but if you like a good funny read have you read anything by Janet Elizabeth Henderson. She is a member of our group and she wrote Lingerie Wars, Davina code, and Laura's Big Break. Those were all terrific. She has written others which I haven't yet read. But she is one really funny lady.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I just finished the latest Fool's Gold Until We Touch Until We Touch (Fool's Gold, #15) by Susan Mallery

Thanks, Dee, for the info on Janet Henderson. I'll go look for her books.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I've just finished the first in the Bayview Trilogy, Cop of the Year. I thought it was very powerful. I'm of a 'certain age' and remember vividly the Vietnam War years.

In this novel one character is a 'Nam vet with medals and nightmares. Another is a teacher of at-risk kids. Women who've taught high school kids and who also remember 'Nam may connect with this book as I did.
