i gave 3 stars to city of bones. is clockwork angel better than cob? my review for city of bones: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

thanks

♥ Alexia -Team Malec ♥ As said on your review, KEEP READING!!!!

Chandana I loved both series, but if even if you didn't like one of them, I still would give Clockwork Angel.

Darlene The Infernal Devices > The Mortal Instruments
They're both good, but that's my opinion.

Alexandra I liked City of Bones when I read it many years ago, but now that I look back on it I realize that the writing isn't as good as Ms. Clare's later books. I'd recommend continuing TMI and seeing if it gets better for you, but if it doesn't, DEFINITELY try Clockwork Angel. TID is my favorite young adult series in the last several years. And it's Ms. Clare's fourth book, so the writing is even better too. Plus, Victorian England. What gets better than that? (Aside from English accents, but that's just a package deal.)

As a book set in a period it's alright, as a book trying to introduce steampunk elements in the timeline of our own reality it kinda stinks. Your complaint was about the characters and while I like these ones more than the others they're equally flat.

The story still forces a great deal of the encounters between characters and while the dialogue is snappy and fun it is sometimes excruciatingly fake or overdone (especially in the start of this one)

However Clockwork Prince was, to my eyes, Clare's best book yet and I have high hopes for Princess as a result. It had some excellent twists and one of the characters that I had previously seen to be the least interesting underwent a neat little change.

I think depending on your interests and what you value in books you read there is a very good chance you'll like this series much more than TMI.

Inês keep reading the series...

Karen I've read all published books in both series, and I loved all of them. I actually prefer "The Mortal Instruments" series to the "Infernal Devices", but several of my friends disagree-one does rather strongly. The only way to figure it out is to read the series for yourself. You can't go wrong picking up a book.

That may not be entirely true, reading things like Mein Kampf, the Communist Manifesto or the Anarchist's Cookbook might get you on a federal watchlist. And aren't they allowed to check Library records under the Patriot Act?

Same! The mortal instruments were iffy, but I love this series, at the beginning she wasn't a very good author but she definitely progressed in each book

miguel The Infernal Devices is much more dramatic and interesting.
While for The Mortal Instruments... compared to The Infernal Devices... it's just... too plain and simple. nothing much.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES IS FREAKING MUCH BETTER!

Karen Samantha, I meant within the frame of books she was asking about. Haha. If you are the type of person to pick up one of those other books, then you may have a problem before you hit the library.

I just felt like being snarky and your comment inspired me :P

Although that said I do disagree a little with the point you were actually trying to make, I'll sometimes ask a few questions about the specific featuers I look for in a book to see if I should bother.

I don't think the only way is to read it myself, I put faith in asking a few people on this website when I'm iffy about buying a book or continuing a series. I just look for the more objective responses and read some negative reviews before I decide. That's why I tried to write a really long, detailed and objective response to this asker.

Completely okay, that's what these posts are for. Plus I thought your comment was funny. Kudos to you for trying to inform others the way you do.

You are absolutely right. It's worth a try.

Marissa This book was not like The City of Bones- it is not about Shadowhunters, etc.
If you don't like the whole sarcastic guy or mousy guy (which will she choose?!) then you might dislike this book, it is a recurring theme.
However it is very good and there are many unexpected thrills in the story. If you don't like it, you can at least say you tried! What is there to lose?

If you read what I said, I said it wasn't about Shadowhunters, etc but the love was similar. Reading comprehension

But you're still trying to say it's not about Shadowhunters when the entire book takes place in the London Institute. Sure the protagonist isn't one but every other character is.

Yes but it is still different because the character is not one herself and therefore has a different view. My point is that the book is different, and if you don't agree, then write your own review!

Astoria I liked City of Bones better than Clockwork Angel, but I loved Clockwork Prince a whole lot more than any of Clare's other books.

Hey dude I was just meddling in a misunderstanding since your answer was pretty dismissive to Alexia. I did write my own review in this thread, it's the 5th response.

First, not a dude. Second, then restrict yourself to that review if you have a tendency to correct, please. Leave me to my opinion, whether you find it correct or not

Just seeking clarity for the sake of the op =D

Oh, gosh. I really didn't mean to turn this into an argument...

Samantha The Escapist Lol Alexia it wasn't an argument, I just get annoyed when people get cocksure and completely ignore the point they're refuting. I figured a second voice would be helpful. Add what I THINK was a snide comment with the "Reading comprehension" (but I'm unsure without proper indicative grammar) and I thought it was unnecessarilly rude when she seemed to be the one who lacked clarity.

So at the very least we know neither of us are arguing :P Marissa seems pissed though. If I'm to restrict myself to my own review I guess I better write "this is entirely about shadowhunters" at the start :P
