message 111: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 01, 2013 02:37PM) (new)

I just started Storm Front by Jim Butcher. It's not the kind of thing I normally read but it sounded interesting and every one I talk to seems to love it.

I'm also rereading the Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett and started Swamp Thing: Love and Death.

... still not sure what I think of this one.

And now I'm onto:
At the Mountains of Madness and Other Tales of Terror by H.P. Lovecraft

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm bingeing on beta-reading!

Love the Light Fantastic though not as much as 'Wyrd Sisters' and 'Mort'. Death is a marvellous character.

message 118: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Okay, now I'm onto:
Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan

It's actually this month's read for the pulp fiction/hard crime group I'm a part of, but it's a blend of sci-fi and a detective story.

I am absolutely loving it!

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm rereading the Discworld series and am on the Light Fantastic. My goal is to read the entire series in one year.

39 books in 12 months. It's not going well...

message 120: by Zen (new)

Zen (bravery) | 3 comments I reread The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle this week and I'm still reeling from it. What a great freaking book.

Manette wrote: "I'm rereading the Discworld series and am on the Light Fantastic. My goal is to read the entire series in one year.

That's awesome, best of luck! I tried to do a full reread of Discworld once, but I only got 5-6 books in before getting distracted :( Maybe I should work that into my reading challenge this year, hmm.

message 121: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (frejafolkvangar) | 107 comments Finished Unaccustomed Earth and it just might be the greatest book I've ever read. Gah! All the feels! All of them! Reading The Lovely Bones and Green Arrow: Year One now.

Zen wrote:Manette wrote: "I'm rereading the Discworld series and am on the Light Fantasti..."

Yeah, that's my issue right now. I'm hoping once I start getting into it more and reading some of my favorites it'll get easier.

Natalie Zen wrote: "I reread The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle this week and I'm still reeling from it. What a great freaking book.

Have you seen the movie? It was one of my favorites as a child. Years later I read the book and was like, I don't remember the movie being this funny. It wasn't a satire. Then I rewatched the movie and realized it was actually making fun of fairy tales the entire time. I was slightly disappointed.

Zen (bravery) | 3 comments Natalie wrote: Have you seen the movie? It was one of my favorites as a child. Year..."

Ooh, I have! It was pretty much the same with me: my mom bought it on VHS because I was obsessed with unicorns, so all I really got from it was "Ooh, pretty unicorn." Then when I read the book, I was surprised at how different it was but I liked it a lot more! I haven't seen the movie in a long time though, maybe I should rewatch it like you did.

Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan

Not reading a sci-fi book now, but instead reading:

The Night Watch by Thomas Walsh

I like sci-fi and hard boiled mysteries pretty equally, and I especially love it when the two merge together (as in Altered Carbon).

message 146: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Death Is a Lonely Business by Ray Bradbury

Ray Bradbury's foray into pulp mystery, but written with his quintessential view. Very good, beautiful writing (as always). I'm loving it. But then again, I've never disliked anything the man wrote.

message 149: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) Again, no sci-fi or fantasy titles for me atm. I'm still reading Balzac's Cousin Bette but I'm also reading Nina Schuyler's The Translator, Michelle Granas' Zaremba, or Love and the Rule of Law and Kathy Reichs' Déjà Dead (couldn't quite figure out what to read at one point and ended up with 4, lol)

Birgit wrote: "I'm reading the new Neil Gaiman novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. Only a few chapters in so can't say much yet, except for that it's very ... Neil."

I have that book waiting for me to be read on my shelf...I want to be able to relish it when I get around to it (which may likely be after my summer classes are over with -_-;)
