I don't only read list books but I usually have at least one that I am reading. I've set a personal challenge to read at least 30 from the list this year.

Yay! Well done, how many are you planning to read this year?

I have a goal of 30 this year. (Fingers crossed.)

Congrats Katherine, You're rocking the books!

Hoping to get 125 read by the end of the year, but I'm not really good at this kinds of promises..

I'm aiming for 12, one a month leaves me time for everything else, although I won't say no to more! Luckily the other books lists tend to overlap.

I picked GR up thinking it would be my chunker pick for this year, but I'm slightly intimidated.

I also read it in trilogy form, but for the list I shelved the combined version on my 1001 list shelf. It inflates my overall books read by one though.

I love the idea about the bookshelves for kids.
I've read 23.

It certainly is! It'll be a few years I think before I hit 500 as I also read a lot which isn't on the list, as I'm sure all of us do. I can't imagine making a commitment to only reading list books. Is anyone doing this?

I read only list books and have been doing so for the last few years. Presently I am at number 470 looking forward to hitting 500 by years end.

That's dedication! I definitely find I need breaks to read lighter fare. And I'm so addicted to my Agatha Christie, Wodehouse, Heyer, Pratchett and some other favourite authors that the thought of not being able to read them would drive me mad.
I'm also finding new authors who interest me as I work my way through and I read other books of theirs. I use the list, not only as a personal reading goal but as a way of finding new authors which I want to read more of.

My husband a little sarcastically 'the list of 1001 depressing books that make you want to die". Some of the list books are a little dark so I take breaks. Right now, I'm reading Far from the Madding Crowd, but I'm also reading The Blue Fairytale Book (Andrew Lang) and a biography of Queen Elizabeth. However there are books on the list I would never have been exposed to.

The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
The Lover by Marguerite Duras
Princesse de Cleves by Madae de Lafayette
Billy Liar
Death in Venice
Northanger Abbey
The Sorrows of Young Werther

The Brothers Karamazov
I, Robot
The Color Purple
Look Homeward Angel
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Lord of the Flies
Vile Bodies
Ficciones
Three Lives
The Postman Always Rings Twice
Burmese Days

I'm about even with you, just finished # 192 of combined list with "Everything is Illuminated". Fewer of the books I'm now reading or will read in next few months will be on the List, so I'm projecting January to reach the 200 milestone.

I'm working my way through Harold Bloom's list as well and there is some crossover. Based on my selections thus far (I've finished fifty-one), I was able to check off thirty titles from his list. I'm also aiming to complete a list of 1000 novels and novellas by women.
The end goal can seem quite daunting. But when you begin to make process and recognize the benefits of the knowledge gained, it's no longer a concern. As new seasons spring forth you'll find immense opportunities to saturate yourself in novels. Trust me. I can be done! :-)
