Dee (deinonychus) | 243 comments With Mary Barton last night, I reached 50 off the combined list, and also my 60th book of the year (I read more off-list than list books), so a nice milestone all round. I think I have read 42, 38, 40, and 43 off each of the successive editions of the list.

Jonpaul I just finished 248 from the combined lists and finished the final of the additions to the 2012 list. On track to be at 250 by year's end and under 1001 by the end of 2014.

message 1062: by Jonpaul (new)

Jonpaul Amateurs by Donald Barthelme. The short story, "I Bought A Little City" is one of the best short stories I've ever read.

message 1063: by Julie (new)

Julie | 38 comments Congrats Jonpaul on 248 list books read! I have just reached the 100 mark which was my goal for 2013, so I am pretty happy about it! I've enjoyed a lot of great books this year.

message 1068: by Steve (new)

Steve mitchell | 127 comments I dont know how to add a row in excel and I dont want to count it all the way down, I will figure out the formula and post, anyone on here know how to do that? I have a row labeled "read" on top and then I just put an "X" if I have read it. How do I add up the amount of X's?

To add a row in Excel, right click on the row (the numbers on the left side so a row is highlighted) below where you want to add and select insert.

A formula to count Xs is =countif(a1:f1,"x") where the a1:f1 is the range you want to count.

haha it worked I am at 204! Thanks Sarah, I am not an excel fellow, I appreciate it!

message 1072: by Brittney (new)

Brittney (ladylunabee) | 2 comments So, just joined the group. First of all, I had no idea this list existed before now, and I think it's awesome.

Second of all, I just went through the whole list and have found that I've read a whopping 23 books from the list. Better than zero I suppose.

I'm looking forward to raising that number!

I feel you. I haven't read more than 25 (though I think I have about 5 started books sitting on my nightstand). And I've gone up 2 since I started my "quest". haha.

message 1074: by Jean (new)

Jean I've read 95.

message 1075: by Stephanie "Jedigal" (new)

Stephanie "Jedigal" (jedigal) | 270 comments I was in my late 30's when I started in '06 with roughly 75 read. So even though I had thought I was rather well-read, I wasn't much better off than a lot of the younger folks jumping in now. Since then I've gotten a lot more read - many many of which were already in my TBR plan, since being 'well-read' has always been important to me, and I agree with a LOT of the List choices. I'm just a few days away from a milestone. (I refuse to post it til I get to it!)

message 1076: by Kat (new)

Kat (ceratopsians) | 56 comments If it makes anyone feel better I've only read 17 of the 1001! A combination of being a slow reader and wanting to read books that aren't exclusively on the list I'm following :).

message 1077: by Becky (new)

Becky (munchkinland_farm) | 248 comments I took a break from "the list" this year. Just finished "The Sense of an Ending" by Julian Barnes - #163 combined lists.

message 1078: by Mike (new)

Mike | 16 comments Going to hit the grand 50 mark once I finish The Third Policeman.

message 1079: by Steve (new)

Steve mitchell | 127 comments I loved the third policeman that is a funny weird book:)

message 1080: by Stephanie "Jedigal" (new)

Stephanie "Jedigal" (jedigal) | 270 comments Just finished Middlemarch to reach a milestone -
200!
(from combined lists).
A nice present to myself!

message 1081: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Congrats Steph! You have come a long way from 75.

message 1082: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 21 comments I'm half way through my 97th book - it'll take some aggressive reading (and/or some very short list books) over the next week to meet my 2013 goal of reaching 100!

message 1083: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kirsten48) | 35 comments I just hit 200 on the combined lists. Which felt like a real accomplishment until I realized I still have more than 1001 left to read! That's okay, this is one goal that is definitely more about the journey.

message 1084: by Sara (new)

Sara | 3 comments I've only discovered the Boxall list this week, but had read about 11 of the selections previously (maybe a few more in high school that I'm too old to remember now - LOL). Has anyone actually read all 1001? I noticed a couple of the selections didn't seem to be available in English (although my search was limited to Amazon so I could be wrong).

message 1085: by Hima (new)

Hima (himazima) | 36 comments Finally reached my year goal of 50 from the combined lists, today/tonight. Read 3 books in 3 days to achieve it, but every little book helps.

Someone in this group only had like 14 more to go, but was having trouble finding them.

message 1087: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 90 comments I finished my 67th today. Think I'll make it a goal to reach 100 in 2014.

Ginger (vedica) Mike wrote: "I have 14 that I have read, 3 that I am currently reading, and 49 that I have on my to-read list.
It's not impressive, but damn it I'm 16 and trying."

Yay you started early :D. I read more from my own list than the 1001 list(s), figure if I read 1001 books in my life that would be impressive, but only if I enjoy them. I only just started in the last few months, I have 12 from the list so far but a total of 35 this year. Read on McDuff!

message 1089: by Mahjabin (new)

Mahjabin Meem I've read only 8 of them! I'm feeling miserable! Though I'm seventeen and English is not even my 1st language. Still it's pretty shameful. :'(

Luke (korrick) Mahjabin wrote: "I've read only 8 of them! I'm feeling miserable! Though I'm seventeen and English is not even my 1st language. Still it's pretty shameful. :'("

Hardly. The numbers don't mean anything. It's the books and what reading them gives you that count.

message 1091: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 681 comments All have to start somewhere Mahjabin, finding it harder to find the books I have left to read.

message 1092: by Theresa (last edited Feb 07, 2014 04:25PM) (new)

Theresa (tweezle) | 0 comments Only 32 so far, but only read 7 of them before I purchased the 1001 book :D

message 1093: by Linda (new)

Linda | 275 comments I was just made aware of The List a couple months ago and then joined this group. Finally counted up the books I've read and it is a dismal 42 (from the combined lists), including one that I just finished yesterday. But I've started gradually picking up books that I recognize from the list as I see them, so I can now actively up that number. :)

message 1094: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrisrussell) | 22 comments With the Virgin Suicides I just hit number 300.
I am confident that 1001 is in my grasp.
