I've finished 73 books from the 2006 list so far and 78 from the combined list.

Who wrote this list? Just a users opinion? Or?
Just started using Goodreads and am so happy to find this group as I was reading this list anyway! I have the 2006 list and when I first had it I was on 43 but checked last night and I am now on 95. So a long way to go, especially since I am no longer reading exclusively to list! Does anyone know where I can find the updated books so I can see what I am missing?

Finished Moll Flanders this morning making 282 from the 2006 list, which, when I add on the 17 I have read from the new introductions on the 2008 list and the 1 from the 2012 edition I have also read, makes a grand total of 300.(not that I am getting obsessive-compulsive about the whole business or anything)
Ah thanks for that info. Looks like I can add another two books to my finished list but add 298 to my 'to-read' list!

First time joining and posting. Just went through the combined list and I have read 192. Not bad for day 1 :)
Welcome, Melissa! Great start. You're way past me, and I've been plodding along through the list for at least five years.
Beth wrote: "Doesn't this list make you feel your mortality?"Yes, it does. It has actually given me a renewed energy to write the bucket list of all the things I wish to do before I die, for it has become apparent that "time flies" and "life is short".
I'm surprised, I just checked my list and I have read 50 of them, far more than I would have expected. Does that make me well-read? lol
Unfortunately only 35... I guess I get side tracked I have read over 500 books that I can remember when trying to compile my read List on the goodreads website but i guess they aren't classy enough.
This is the first time I have looked at this list, and have only read 9 (I think, there were a few 'maybes' that i didn't count because i couldn't remember if i had read them or seen a movie about them.) Clearly I don't read enough 'high brow' literature... shall have to get cracking. Gatsby is high on the list, but i just saw the movie, so i need to wait a while so i'm not so tempted to compare the two...
I've recently finished my 50th on the combined lists. Like many, I am reading non-list books as well.

111 books. I am 32 yrs old and been working on this list for couple years now. Like many, I also read non-list books.

Amanda wrote: "111 books. I am 32 yrs old and been working on this list for couple years now. Like many, I also read non-list books."eleventy-one! congrats!
Deanne wrote: "976 from the original list."Big smiley face. Only 25 to go "from the original list" and I think you've read many from subsequent lists, too.
Deanne wrote: "Mumble, mumble 40."Bumping up against 40 is disconcerting at best, as I recall. But I think you'll find over 40 is better than under 40.
Deanne wrote: "Only if I learn Korean or French."It's being translated into English:

The article says the first volume is supposed to be translated by October 2012, which has passed already. I couldn't find anything about a publishing date though, I guess it takes longer to translate than they thought.
I speak French, but the French edition of The Taebak Mountains is so expensive; around €30 for each volume.
And for those of you wondering how long it will take to appear in English, the French translation took around 3 1/2 years between volumes 1 and 10. That's assuming volume 1 eventually comes out in English.
I've been following the list and the group for awhile now. I just purchased the spreadsheet to help me keep up. I was an English lit major in college and read a lot more. Since being in graduate school and working, I've found my "reading for fun" time has diminished alarmingly and like the list to give me ideas. So I have finished 64 books from all editions, 57 (2012)
I've been working on the list(s) for a couple of years now. Just hit a big milestone of 250. I actually think I can read a thousand of them.
I have read 79 of the 1001. Confession: some of them were compulsory reading in high school and college; probably about 1/4 of them.
i've read 28, but this year i have been reading a lot more, commuting to work on public transport, listening to audiobooks when i have to travel throughout the state...
I'm on 137 from all lists inclusive. i've got several hundred still to read on my kindle that i've managed to scrounge for free off the internet (thanks manybooks.net!) regards, will

Any list is going to be way subjective. Far too many books have been written for far too long in far too many languages for anything even remotely inclusive or comprehensive. Taste and relevance and readership are subjective and personal. I just like the challenge of reading 1001 books.
