What is your suggestion for our 8th Group Read (August 2012) ?

Please suggest a graphic novel (only one) for our 8th Book Club discussion (during the month of August). You can send it until a week from now.

After that a poll will be set up during a week for us to decide what we will discuss next.

Hi there Abhisek. I've researched the edition you linked to and aparently it's a set of books containing the whole series. It's a bit too much for a single discussion so I'll add instead the first volume of the english translation. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks, man! I just read Jimmy Corrigan for my Local Library Graphic Novel Reading group. Good choice, but I'd like to see more European comics on this group...

Sure Sergio, I won't mind at all! I just linked that edition because it contained all the volumes. :)

Graphic Witness: Four Wordless Graphic Novels This collects works by Frans Masereel, Giacomo Patri, Lynd Ward, and Laurence Hyde. They are just amazing, historically and Masereel, Patri and Ward especially are artists whose work constantly inspires me as an artist and as a person. And as for more European stuff, Patri and Masereel are European, though Ward's an American, don't hold it against him, and I forget where Hyde's from, but really even if we don't pick it, this is definitely a book anyone interested in comics and their roots should check out, as well as other work by the creators, though even Ward and Masereel, the most prolific by far, are hard to come by.

Empowered Vol 1 by Adam Warren (Dark Horse). The newest volume just came out so I dragged out the first six to re-read before I jump into it. It's a really fantastic take on superhero comics and manga and is riotously funny.

I'd say anything Eisner, with those as examples. If I had to pick one out of the many, I'd say Contract With God.

I've recently been given a copy of Rachel Rising: The Shadow of Death by Terry Moore.
I've only read the first four pages but it was engrossing stuff, it looks like a quick read so maybe we can keep it as a secondary read?

Here's how it works: after we close the suggestions thread we'll make a poll so that everyone can vote for the books that they want to read next month.

The most voted book gets to be the official read for that month, and the second most voted gets to be the optional read.

If the book you wanted to read doesn't get to win, you can always gather a few group members and do a Buddy Read. Here's the thread for starting those:
