So... I wrote my review of First Shift: two out of five ain't good. I also realized that I've rated the last five books I've finished at two stars or less. Bad streak!I'm about 10% into John Dies at the End and I'm pretty sure this is going to break that streak. John Dies is a kind of modern twist on Ghostbusters, fighting evils right out of HP Lovecraft, with a wickedly low brow sense of humor.
I finished John Dies at the end, 1/3 great, 2/3 not very good. Review here: Why couldn't you be better!Next up is Claus: Legend of the Fat Man which I was given a free review copy of from the author Tony Bertauski. I'll be going through to chapter 40 of Belfast first!
A few days ago I stumbled upon a writer called Val McDermid. She writes thrillers, has several stand alones, and at least two series. In 4 days I have read 3 of her books: A Place Of Execution, The Distant Echo, and Killing The Shadows, and I cant put them down! Great writing, fast paced, interesting characters and some novel premises. I love it!
I finished the 'Ghosts of Belfast', enjoyed the book. I'm now happyly reading "As Husbnds Go' by Susan Isaacs, quick, easy, and fun to read.
I've started House of Leaves. I want to get a bit farther before I gush about how much I'm loving this book in a book in a book... I'll also be posting my review of Claus in a day or two. It was a lot of fun seeing the Santa story re-imagined in a creative and fun way!
I posted my review of Claus here: Claus Review. I liked it quite a lot. It's the first time I accepted a free book for review purposes. I had a scary moment right when I started... what if it turned out terrible?!? I'm not sure if I'll jump into future reviews or not, there is definitely an additional pressure which changes the reading experience.
I didn't finish anything but The Ghosts of Belfast this month. I started Kick Menstrual Cramps in the Nuts which is really a natural health book. I just began Teaching the Dog to Think. My in -progress list is getting ever bigger and my "completed" list very small.

Obviously I'm moving through (and enjoying!) The Ghosts of Belfast. I don't know what else I'm going to read... but I'll be back here in a few days with an update.
I'd be interested in doing some type of tag team book (like I did with Dead Before Dark, but with another person participating... maybe each taking a "side" and duking it out). Message or talk to me if you are interested. I'd like to make it silly and fun.
Edit: started First Shift - Legacy, sequel to Wool Omnibus Edition. I'm a bit hesitant because Wool was probably my favorite science fiction read this year.
