This was an ok read. The last 25% was really good and held my interest enough to get it 3 stars. Honestly, the only reason I'm reading the next one in the series is cause I'm using this book and the next one in an A-Z series challenge and this was my "J" choice. Maybe the next one will be attention grabbing for me all the way through.

Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga, #1) by Colleen Houck

Title/Author: Tiger's Curse - Colleen Houck
Series: The Tiger Saga
Read: September 3, 2012
Rating: ★★★★
First time author? yes
To-Be-Continued? yes

Review:
I'm not sure what I was expecting but this book was a total surprise. Kelsey Hayes takes a summer job working at a circus and gets enraptured by the white tiger. They have an instant connection and when she is offered a chance to accompany Dhiren (the tiger) to a preserve in India, she jumps at the chance. Turns out Dhiren is an Indian prince who was cursed to forever live as a tiger. Now he is trying to break the curse and only Kelsey can help. The adventure is very Indiana Jonesish with then tromping all over the jungles of India searching for clues and trying to decipher the strange prophesy. I was enjoying this immensely and everything was going fine until (view spoiler) This obviously sets up the sequel but man did it piss me off. Of course, I will be reading Tiger's Quest as I'm dying to know what Kishan's destiny is.

Review: I just didn't find myself caring about anything that happened. I would be reading and then realize that I had no idea what was going on because my mind was elsewhere. That shouldn't be happening. I will not continue the series. (see? I can't even write a good review because I wasn't paying attention half the time)

Review: I really liked this book and thought it was paced just right. Gwen is stuck going to a school where she is the outcast, but things change fro her when she tries to figure out just why another student is murdered. The only negative is that the author repeats things over and over again, but that is her writing style as she does it with her other awesome series (Elemental Assassins).

I had hard time to connect with the characters in the book. They didn't seem real and the story was little predictable. I was hoping more, because Sookie Stackhouse series was so great.

Review: I enjoyed the book from the beginning, but still found myself being distracted at night with other things instead of reading, and then last night I was at 56% and couldn't put it down until I finished, it had such an action packed ending. I really loved that it avoided some cliches that I find so tedious (its the end of the world and your life is in danger, but lets stop and fret over if the boy loves me), and while sure you could figure out some of what was going to happen, it wasn't in your face. I'm honestly going to have a hard time waiting for the next book to come out.

Review:
Dulcinea Craven is a proper English lady until her parents are killed and her ex-suitor, Sebastian decides to chew on her neck. Then all hell breaks loose and she invites the Righteous into her home. The Righteous are a band of warrior vampires who enforce the rules of the vampire counsel. Devlin, the Dark Lord; Justine, the Devil's Justice; and Michael, the Devil's Archangel. With their assistance, Dulcinea is going to fight and hopefully defeat Kali, the demon queen who has enraptured Sebastian.

I certainly didn't expect a Victorian vampire romance when I picked this up. What a total surprise. I loved Dulcie and Michael together. This is action from page one though it does start out rather like a Victorian romance.

What I liked about it:
the book starts off like a typical YA novel-high school, popular guys, not-so popular girl- but then it surprises you.
how sensible the female lead was.
it was the perfect length.
ended at just the right place.

What I didn't like about it:
lack of details-I never thought I'd been the way to notice that! The flora & fauna unique to the kingdom were not described in too much detail.

A good book to curl up with and spend some hours of relaxed reading

Review: Peter is a bartender who gains the attraction of the Master vampire, Lucien. And, as in any vampire series, the master vampire is uber-alpha male. It took a while for Peter to feel comfortable with his new position as the Master's partner but once he did Peter was a force to be reckoned with. The only thing that irked me was all the SEX! Now, I'm a huge fan of sex, but not with just anyone that walks into a room. And that's what this was, a sex free for all.

First time author? Yes

Review: Predictable and unoriginal but a cute read nonetheless.

Shapeshifting clans with special abilities, fated mates and racist enemies have all been done before and Humphreys doesn’t add anything new to the mix. In fact, she seems to throw it all together into one big cauldron just to cover all her bases.

Malcolm and Sam have adequate chemistry but their romance is uninspired. The suspense plot is also weak. There are too many villains and none are particularly scary or chilling.

The other Amoveo members are, however, interesting enough for me to continue with the series.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Forbidden (The World of Nightwalkers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

Title/Author: Forbidden by Jacquelyn Frank
Series: Nightwalke World
Read: 9th October
Rating: 4★
First time author? Nope
To-Be-Continued? yeah.

Review:
In Forbidden Jacquelyn has expanded the myth involved in the popular Nightwalker series by introducing the possibility of a further six nations onto the existing six, previous knowlege of the Nightwalker books is not needed to enjoy this but I highly recomend reading them.

The Bodywalkers have their mythology based in ancient Egypt, when their mortal body dies their soul returns to the Ether, which is the place between life and death. Once they have recovered from their "death" they are able to hitch-hike back to Earth and into a new body by possesing a human at the moment of their death. Both parties have to be in agreement though, and over a period of time the two souls will merge allowing them to share a body.

Following an attempted murder, Docia is introduced to a world she never expected existed. Raised by her brother, Jackson, and his friend Leo after the death of her parents, Docia has led a pretty uneventful life so why are people suddenly trying to kill her? The melding of Docia with a Bodywalker occurs after the first attempt to kill her, this invites even more bad guys to try and kill her, luckily for her it also introduces a protector in the form of Ram/Vincent who believes her to be hosting his Queen. Along the way we meet new foes and allies, the plot has many twists and a forbidden romance that raises the heat level.

It's a promising beginning to the series, like all first in series books with such a huge mythology there is a large amount of info thrown at you in this book, it was a little hard to get my head around at times. I was greatful for the distraction that Jackson provided and I'm looking forward to getting to know him better.

Jacquelyn has proved once again why she is a master (or should that be mistress?) of what I like to term "fantasy paranormal". The worlds she creates are so indepth and different that you can't help but believe they may actually exist.

Review:

I received a copy of this book for review and was excited seeing as I've read the first book of her other series, Destiny. I enjoyed this one immensely, it's about Centaurs living amongst humans and they have strange customs and powers.

Camille is a girl who finds out that she's got a family that she never knew about, and that she's a revered female Centaur from a strict bloodline. The book follows her escapades as she discovers who she is and more about this strange society. She faces danger, meets the love of her life, and comes up against some sinister people. I will definitely pick up the next one and highly recommend it.

To-Be-Continued? Definitely

Review: Finally, a new series I can really get excited about! I loved Unholy Ghosts - the plot, characters, and world-building pulled me in right away. Chess is a great heroine. She's tough but human, has her flaws and strengths, and seems to really know herself. Terrible was cool, I liked that he was an "unconventional" love interest, and I can't wait to see what happens between him and Chess. The plot was fantastic - really creepy and full of twists, and the world that Stacia Kane has created is so unique. I love her take on ghosts, hauntings, and a whole new religion surrounding the presence of spirits and magic in the world. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars and an awesome series I'll definitely continue. I already bought the next 2 books!

Review: Charlie is special. Not many know and those that do know don't know how special she really is...I loved this book, Charlie is The Grim Reaper. No she isn't the scary, though she isn't the robe wearing sycal carring type. She helps the dead cross overand sometimes things just don't go as she plans.....

Don't flame me, but I'm disappointed in this book. Everyone on my Goodreads list seemed to love it and rave about it. While it started off well, the Twilight similarities just kept on cropping up all over the place. It's not as if I actually remember the whole Twilight story unless prompted. The whole thing just seemed to be like a Twilight ripoff, the entire plot was just so close to it, it was bizarre.

It's pretty much Twilight, but with aliens. Granted, you have a much better main character who isn't so docile and annoying like Bella but she STILL needs saving. The main character is a hot alien douche repelled by the main character, Katy, because she may put them all in danger. And the punchline - he doesn't sparkle, but he GLOWS. He's light itself. If that doesn't have your alarm bells ringing I don't know what does.

See if I hadn't read Twilight I would probably think this was the best thing since sliced bread, but I have so I can't bring myself to rate this over 3 stars. I probably won't continue this series, because the heavy 'borrowing' from Ms Meyer just isn't something I'm comfortable with. I read the blurb and already I'm getting similarities again, like the Department of Defence = Volturi and hot new boy = Jacob. No thanks.
