This was a childrens book where the protaganist, a boy who doesn't get along with his father, gets a cat. I can't remember too much else on the story. I remembered that he lived by a neighbor named Kate, who is a cat fanatic, and I think the people in the town referred to her as Crazy Kate because she was so eccentric and that she did not get along well with her brother. Also, there was a scene where a kitten, who always escaped and walked below people's feet, was, unfortuanatelly, accidetly killed by a reporter, after he stepped on it. It was a chapter book...but it was relatively short. (It was Young Adult and maybe teen?) Any suggestions? It's been killing me! I actually remember really enjoying this book and I want to add it to My Books.

Glad to help. I first read it when I was 10 and on a train ride to NYC to live there for a while. It was perfect at the time.
